We come to Elim House every year, great location and beautiful room

Could not fault the room it was very well decorated Comfy bed a good sized bathroom. The host's were very helpful & informative, a good location for getting about.

The owner was very attentive and welcoming.

Not big deal but it wasn't clear if breakfast was available. The sign outside indicated that it was but no reference inside. We aimed to go to a local cafe close by so it wasn't an issue.

The property was in a fantastic location. It was clean and comfortable and was good value for money. We really liked the temperature controls!

The information about parking was very misleading. The booking listing had parking as one of the facilities. When I booked, I emailed and asked about parking and the response read: “More detailed information about parking will be sent automatically a few days before the date of your stay. There are a number of parking alternatives. These include 24/7 free street parking outside the house and some private parking at the rear of the property, but we do not operate a booking system, unless a guest has mobility problems. Rest assured that we are almost always able to find our guests convenient, free parking close to the house.” I therefore wasn’t concerned about parking. The day before our stay I received the message: “The most convenient place to park is on Biskey Howe Road, at the front of the house. This is unrestricted 24/7. This is the easiest place to park for access to the house, and avoids the steps mentioned below. We have a number of spaces at the rear of the house. The rear parking is accessed by turning into the lane, just after Elim House…” I was therefore very surprised when we arrived and found that there was very limited street parking and no parking spaces free for the property. We had to circulate the road several times before we found a space and it was very difficult to access. I was then very confused when we entered the property and the gentleman at reception immediately said “I have sent you many reminders about the arrival registration. I didn’t know if you were driving so we have no car spaces available.” Not only was this extremely rude but also completely at odds with the information that had been communicated, and I felt it was probably obvious that we were driving anyway as I had previously enquired about parking! The gentleman explained that usually a registration text is sent before the stay to ascertain information on transport. This wasn’t sent to me until the day before we left.

Exceptional! Extremely comfortable and spotless clean. Free parking which is always brilliant with the location. Tea and coffee station. It was my partners birthday and Mark & Grace left a happy birthday banner and petals on the bed which was wonderful! Thank you for a great stay we will be back!

Great location, good sized clean room, comfortable beds, quiet surroundings. Temperature was great considering the weather and there was also a fan just in case. Mark and Grace are good people, just the right level of helpful but also left us to do our thing and enjoy the stay. We’d been let down by another accommodation just 2 days before we were due to arrive, and glad we were now as we had a lovely stay at Elim House and found many great ways to fill our days in Bowness.

Mark truly went above and beyond as a host, welcoming us with a warm smile and making our stay so comfortable. He allowed us an early check-in, which was incredibly helpful. The rooms were not only nice but also spotlessly clean, and I was genuinely impressed by the fantastic wifi speed—definitely the best I’ve encountered in any property. Knowing I was working from the hotel that day, Mark checked in to see how everything was going, which made the experience even more enjoyable. He’s such a kind soul. The location was perfect, too—just a short 7-minute walk to the beautiful Windermere pier/lake, and a bus stop just 3 minutes away. We genuinely appreciated all the thoughtful touches that made our stay memorable.

Mark allowed me to have parcels delivered prior to my arrival at the guest house. The house is a good location and there is parking. Good communication prior to arrival.

Mark and Grace were personable, so leaving criticism is tough. However, given our stay was a business transaction, so I am going to offer my honest opinion. The room (a superior double) is very dated in terms of decor and furniture. The bed was uncomfortable. It was springy and bouncy. Turning over in bed disturbed us both. The garden requires attention it is overgrown, giving the appearance of neglect. However, what bothered us most was the lack of any cleaning in our room during our 4 night stay. We could have had the room cleaned on the third day, but we were told in order for the host to do that, we would have to vacate our room for at least three hours. The reason given for this is covid measures are still in place at Elim House. This is totally outdated now and completely unnecessary. To vacate for three hours is quite inconvenient, so we didn't bother with a clean on the third day. Cynically, it is my opinion that using covid measures is an excuse not to clean rooms daily and have an easier life....(Sorry, Mark, but it's how I feel). I didn't enjoy having to empty my own rubbish, do my own washing up and having to ask for extras (such as tea/coffee/milk) as a paying guest. We were instructed that if we needed tea, etc, to let the owners know ideally before 2 pm. On our 3rd day, we ran out of milk. My husband went to ask for some at 9.15am, but no one was available, so he had to go out to buy some. Again, this was very inconvenient. I would not stay at Elim House again. There's an abundance of other guest houses in the same area that offer a better service. When I make bookings, I go by previous reviews, and I have to say, I'm extremely surprised this guest house has the rating it has. We did not feel our hosts made us feel relaxed or special.

Beautiful comfortable room with everything that you needed. Welcoming host. Everywhere was very clean. The room was large and very comfortable. Short walk to all amenities and the lake. Would definitely stay here again.

didn’t spend a lot of time there at the house but good location and it was a comfortable stay - the bathroom and bedroom is totally clean and neat. the bed is comfortable enough and the tv. no issue with parking up my car with the owners guide on the arrival.

Breakfast was not provided, however with the property being situated near main street there were plenty of cafes offering all day breakfast.

Location

Owners were very friendly, helpful and kept in touch regarding the parking and when the room was available. It was a minutes walk away from the main high street and about 5-6 mins away from the lake. Shops, bars and restaurants on your doorstep.

The only down side was that they didn’t do breakfast and the room was a little dated.

The guest house was very close to the town centre and lake. Room was clean with a huge bed and plenty of tea and coffee on the hospitality tray. The communication before and after our stay was excellent.

Room a bit small but we were only there for 2 nights so ok for short stay. We were on the top floor in the attic and birds were frequently on the roof making scratching sounds. I found the shower hard to use, it wouldn’t get hot for me, however I’m not used to electric showers as I’ve never had one. My partner found it ok to use and had to get it to work for me. Room on the top floor so lots of stairs, but I suppose that’s the luck of the draw and it was a last minute booking.

This is bed only, worked well for us, my partner has a dicky tummy, so we ate out for breakfast she chose her requirements, Also parking in Bowness is at a premium, not so here, even if you are not able to park outside the premises, There is on road parking within a minute away.
