The Kampung

Right on the beach front, great place to stay for sea views and enjoying the garden with traditional buildings.

We stayed three nights at this wonderful place. Ketut looked after us as if we were old friends. Breakfasts were great, lovely very fresh fruit, pancakes and omelettes and fresh juices prepared on site in our own kitchen and served in a beautiful room right on the beach. The ‘hut’ we were in was twenty metres from the surf, sounded beautiful at night . Lovely old buildings dating back to Dutch colonial days transported to this site , along with fascinating old furniture. Private pool was spotlessly clean and perfect. We have been coming to Bali and other parts of Indonesia for over forty years and this takes us back in time… in a good way. The Kampung is a little bit away from the main shopping /eating area of Amed,which suited us as we were just unwinding after a few weeks of travel, and this was a perfect spot . We had a great day out visiting local sites with Nyoman driving us, and saw places we did not know existed despite first travelling through this province 45 years ago. Nyoman’s s brilliant safe driver. We were discussing how we have a new granddaughter with Ketut, and how I have an interest in old sarongs from Solo, as we were leaving Ketut gives us a lovely dress she has bought for our granddaughter and a Javanese sarong for me. Truly kind wonderful people. Over the road is Warung Galanga, stunning fusion food at unbelievable cheap prices. Book ahead, they take bookings three months out and turn away heaps of people as it is now on the radar . This place is not a high rise modern Hilton hotel, it is a set of historic bungalows in a beautiful garden with the loveliest staff you could ever meet. I know which one I prefer! This place is absolutely perfect. Only difficulty might be for someone of very limited mobility navigating a few steps down to the beautiful outdoor bathroom, but if I can do it most people could!

The kampung was like paradise for us. It was better than expected! We had an amazing family holiday - the location, meals, and everything else were spot on. Everything was easily organised from scooters to full day trips. Snorkelling and diving in Amed is excellent and we saw turtles a few times. Some of our family went deep sea fishing and caught lots of fish. You could easily just not leave the kampung and have an amazing holiday. We hope we can return to the kampung.
