After a bus journey from Rio that arrived after 10pm, over 2 hours late due to traffic, the suite was nice and relaxing. Very spacious set amongst nice grounds. I saw a beautiful red bird while enjoying a lavish breakfast.
Caio on reception is a great English speaking Brazilian and was super helpful. I really appreciate the considerable time and effort Caio spent assisting me.
Nothing! Superb throughout!

Location, breakfast, and accommodations all very good and excellent value for the price.
10% service charge as "optional" is never a good ask.

Lovely location, easy walk to all places in the centre of the town. Individual 2 storey buildings with 4 apts. Set in very picturesque grounds. Lots of facilties, rather like a small resort. Pool, games, lovely sitting areas. Excellent breakfast with good quality and variety of choice. Very helpful friendly staff. Rooms quite spacious though interiors rather outdated. No extras provided. Car parking spaces. Very safe to walk everywhere even late at night in the town. Great overall experience.
As we went in June it was bit cold at night and no heating.

Walking distance from the historical centre of Paraty but in a very quiet area.
Typical pousada feel, lots of colours, greenery, and a quiet place.
The rooms are confortable, and the little private patio is very nice.
Nice breakfast.
The pousada needs a little bit of refurbishment work, particularly in the fitness room and in the indoor pool.

Nice hotel area with lovely gardens and beautiful houses for the guest rooms. Two great pools - out in the sun and inside a pool house. Calm area, but in short walking distance from village center where there are restaurants, pubs, shops, sights and all we wanted to do and see. Also, Paraty feels - and is - a lot safer than many other places in Brazil.
When we checked out they added 10% to the room charge. This was the normal service charge that is optional to pay in Brazil. We were however surprised because no other place that we have stayed in has applied service charge on top of room rates so we asked them to remove it. They took it away without protest so I guess it was ok, but it left us feeling a bit bad because we were not unhappy with the service, we just didn’t expect to pay 10% on top of room rates.

The outdoor of the property looks amazing and well maintained.
The sidewalks are paraty style. Looks great but less comfort.

I needed to leave the Inn to pickup my girlfriend at around 4 AM. She was coming from far away, in a 8 hour bus trip. No employee was there to open the gate, and I was not able to pick her up in time. At least she was able to find an alternative to come to the Inn. Relatives of the other people that were in the same bus gave her a ride, since there are no taxis at a dark late Paraty. Her boyfriend (me) was stuck inside Villas de Paraty due to a locked and no-watched gate. We payed a lot of money and had this little surprise :(
This is there reason I have voted as 6/10. It was a very embarrassing moment for me, and a very scary experience for her

Despite the unbelievable rudeness of the two ladies in reception, I have to recommend, Adriano, Jose, Jonathan and all the staff in the bar were truly exceptional.
They were kind and showed great customer service. To be honest if they were not there, we would have left and moved to another hotel. They were the reason we stayed.
The pool was very good and the water clean.
The breakfast was very good, my family enjoyed the fresh fruit and Jose was always friendly and happy to see us. She is a great person.
Having a bar next to the hotel is a good asset and as mentioned the staff there are superb.
The fact nobody apart from one very helpful staff member Adriano spoke English and were dismissive of the fact they did not speak English. For example, I rang from my room one morning to enquire about a trip and asked if anyone spoke English, a lady said "I don't speak" and hung up.
The room itself could have done with a deep clean as the shelves were very dusty when we arrived.
When we arrived the grass on the paths to the chalets was very long and a mosquito nest. It was only when a few guests started to arrive, maintenance started to cut the grass. They did a good job.
The overall standard of the "luxury" room was basic, the light fitting was missing, the safe didn't work, the shower head was hanging from the wall. The design of the window in the bathroom means it can't close and is a great mosquito entrance.
However the thing that annoyed me the most, was the fact the bill when checking out was in brazilian and the "optional" 10% was already added to the bill. I have no issue tipping and indeed did so when in the hotel brewery bar adding 20% to the bill every time when it already included the 10%. I like to have that option and I would have given 10% on my 7 night stay if it was explained what it was for.
The hotel charges European prices for much less than European standard. The owner should visit a basic hotel in Ireland to see what is available for 50% less price.
My wife asked for the 10% to be taken off in light of the above and the lady at reception could not have been more rude. She basically threw my credit card back to me and then turned her back. This would not be acceptable anywhere in the world.
