Amazing property, service and luxury feel
The bar. Not my scene. Would have preferred to sit in the centre area not the dark jazz club type feel

The property is beautiful with quality furniture and finishings.

Clean and spacious. The staff are very attentive, nothing is too much. Especially in the dining room.

Everything was perfect. Got a complementary upgrade to a king's room with a castle view - it was beautiful, clean and perfect. The staff were friendly and professional, and the SPA facilities (sauna, steam room and pool) were good enough and not too crowded. The TV and the bed in the room were also great. We've also really appreciated the complementary chocolates and available selection of espresso pods and teas.
Nothing.

The Caledonian is exemplary and offers exactly the kind of relaxation that you'd want from a stay in Edinburgh. The room was comfort beyond expectations, the facilities were excellent and the decor and service from the staff made for a great stay.
The catering for vegans could perhaps be improved, as the vegan bacon provided at breakfast was overcooked and costed quite a bit. This didn't however spoil our experience.

The staff were first class and very friendly. The breakfast was good but didn’t like the supplements for omelettes etc. We were upgraded on arrival and the room was huge and very clean
We were half board and included dinner but the choice on the menu was very poor and it was the same choice for the next night we stayed . For the size of the hotel there was only one lift and got very busy at times

Staff were excellent, really helpful at all times and extremely polite. The hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location. Bar area is amazing.
Bedrooms are lovely, though i couldn't find a pillow which was comfortable. The robe in the room is a nice touch but would have been a decent size for a 12 year old not a 6 foot 2 man. No problem though, everything else made up for this!

I received an unexpected room upgrade to the 4th floor overlooking the castle it was beautiful. The spa facilities were tricky to find it is a bit of a maze but once there, lovely and the breakfast (although not included in the room rate, I chose to pay extra) was exceptional. A wonderful stay.
Can't really think of anything.

Beautiful hotel, staff very attentive, good breakfast, room very comfortable
Spa - very poor facilities. Steam room wasn’t working. Sauna is tiny as is the pool. Changing facilities too small and floor dirty. For the size of hotel it is inadequate and very disappointing. This let the hotel down and why I wouldn’t revisit.

Currently getting a facelift and redecorated. Looking great inside and out, the staff are always very friendly and welcoming throughout the hotel. Would recommend using the spa and pool facilities.
Only one lift working at the moment as they are replacing the 2 main lifts

Beauty hotel and room. We got a room with a view of the castle, which was a pleasant surprise.
Very well equipped room, you can feel the old atmosphere with modern amenities.
The hotel service wasn't up to par with one of the best hotels in the city. The people at the front desk joked and laughed while we waited to check in. Finally, when they finished talking, one of the women invited us in. I checked that the bar was open until midnight. We arrived at 11:20 PM, and the lady told us it was already closed and we could only order room service (but not from her either).
The room had very old windows, with holes in them that were practically see-through. This meant that the soundproofing was practically nonexistent.

Such a shame I have to review this property so low.
The building itself is so beautiful but that’s it.
I booked this hotel for part of my wife’s 40th birthday because she has always wanted to return to Edinburgh. Out of all the places I could have booked I chose here. Such a mistake. I’d like to point out this is the first in all my life negative review I’ve ever written.
We booked on a 2 night Dinner/Bed/Breakfast basis and paid full in advance (rather a lot of money) and informed the hotel beforehand it was my wife’s 40th.
As soon as we arrived we went into the bar entrance instead of the main entrance by error it was dark cold and late, we had travelled from Shropshire. The bar staff looked at us as if we were aliens and asked us what we were doing. I informed them we would like to check in, and they pointed us to reception.
Once at reception, the receptionist mentioned it was a special birthday and my wife said yes it was. She then said we would like to give you a complementary breakfast? It was at this point things started to go downhill. I advised her we had booked on a half board basis and pre paid in full. 20 mins later they confirmed we did. We then asked if we could go to the restaurant for dinner (which we had paid for) to be told we will call you and let you know. It was already 8:15pm. My wife had to ask where our room was and for directions to it, whilst I parked the car. No help at all with valet. Not a 5 star establishment.
20mins later we were told we could dine at 8:45. So we make our way down to the bar for a quick drink. 6minutes it took for the barman to acknowledge us, please note the bar was not busy at all. By this point we had to take our full drinks into the Restaurant as we didn’t have time to drink them.
The Restaurant if I could give it 0 stars I would and it would truly deserve them, trust me. Please spend your hard earned cash somewhere that deserves it. We were shown to our table by I assume the Maître d. At this point looking back we should have walked out.

The building/architecture and location - the 2 reasons I picked this hotel. Also, because is part of Hilton - but this hotel is faaar away from
any Hilton standars we usually found around the world.
Many reasons for NOT:
- the room is small (we had a king superior) faced to a building in construction
- there is NO minibar in the room. Really, guys? In 2025???? For a 5 stars??
- no sleepers in the room which nowdays is a basic level even for a 3 stars
- the breakfast restaurant was a mess: we stayed in line 15 minutes waiting to be seated, the personnel was taking the time not interested in being more efficient, no explanation about ordering from the meniu, the buffet options extremelly limited: scrambled eggs looking gross, few sausages and ham - no greens or salads, no bread, no cheese selections:(. Very very very poor!

General facilities were good, the bar areas/restaurant were amazing along with the staff in these. The breakfast service was also very good.
Concierge service were brilliant and very helpful along with the waiters and bar staff.
On arrival we got given a room which absolutely stunk of food, we asked for help with this they said someone has been sent to sort out. No one ever turned up after multiple trips back down to reception we were told it had been cleaned and to go and check ourselves, it hadn’t even been touched.
The staff basically forgot about us and we didn’t hear anything for nearly 2 hours, we just sat in the other room.
After multiple calls and being told someone would be in touch with us we heard nothing.
Finally got through to the manger and explained the situation who finally came and sorted us 2 other rooms.
After a 7 hour drive, we were left waiting for hours with poor customer service up until that point and when you spend £1500 on a hotel room for a couple of nights it’s not good enough. Genuinely premier inn customer service would have been better!
The manager was great though and as soon as she found out she got it sorted but the general staff in reception although very polite and friendly were not good enough.

It really is a special place that I enjoy visiting every year.
This is not something I don’t like but really just constructive feedback to hopefully create a better overall customer experience.
I feel it would work well if the Spa / swimming area was allocated or organised via a booking system to prevent overcrowding.

Staff were very welcoming. They provided amenities for my partners birthday at very short notice.
7.0 / 10.0
The style and history of the building and hotel. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful. The Christmas decorations were very good, which with the Christmas market in the city ticked the boxes for our pre-Christmas trip. Free upgrade to castle and city view was a nice touch.
The breakfast service on our second day was poor although the food was very good except it could have been a bit hotter.

We had a lovely stay at the Caledonian, the staff were very kind and helpful. We got upgraded upon our arrival which made our stay even better as our room was spacious and very well done. Everything was clean and we loved the on site spa facilities. Thank you!
The service in the restaurant was quite poor. We ate in the restaurant once and had drinks in the bar a few times, we found the service to be incredibly slow as we would be waiting 20 mins+ for our drinks to arrive. The food itself was very yummy but this was slightly damped by the slow service in an almost empty restaurant.

Brilliant location, room lovely and clean.
Spa not up to much quite out dated, steam room not the cleanest and not much steam about it!

The reception staff were so friendly and welcoming. We stayed to celebrate my Mums 70th birthday I am so glad I picked this hotel it exceeded my expectations. The location is ideal. We had lovely views of Edinburgh castle from our room. Lots of nice bars and restaurants and shops nearby and next to the Christmas market. The staff in the spa were also nice and friendly and I couldn’t fault the facilities they have everything we needed and more.
Nothing.

The location of you are using hop on/off bus is ideal. The overall ambiance of the property is wonderful. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Joseph at the front desk was the star employee.
No negatives, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Laura at the front desk was absolutely amazing. The most warm welcome & helpful introduction to the property as well as Edinburgh. And whenever we saw her throughout our stay, she remembered us & was so absolutely warm & kind. A stand out in our entire week in the UK.
The property is very cool in an excellent location, walkable to everything we wanted to do with our time.
The bar is beautiful & the breakfast room is quite nice & full of bustle in the am. The entire staff at this property is actually quite wonderful.
Currently under renovation, the property is a bit difficult to get around. Our room was on the 5th floor & we couldn't find the staircase that lead from the 4th to the 5th floor - because it is different than the main staircase.
The renovation has also left one elevator not working (the property does a decent job of explaining it & making up for the inconvenience with free drink cards for the bar).
Parking is self-park at a public garage around the corner from the property - no valet. It worked out just fine, but it isn't ideal.
Our stay was actually quite nice, but we stayed in 4 total hotels in our time in the UK and The Caledonian fell to the bottom spot on our list from best to least good - even with the exceptional service & kindness of Laura.

Bkfst option was very limited and no live station. Which was disappointing. Other than that property was nice
Too expensive for the quality. I hv stayed in better properties and paid less. I always travel in Peak season.

Staff were super helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. Our room was massive and had castle views. The room was equipped with everything you needed including a yoga mat and a block. I loved it
One elevator was broken at the time but was still ok. Prices are quite expensive.

Bar service very slow
8.0 / 10.0
Great location, nice atmosphere and historic side
There were some constructions so only one elevator to the fifth floor where we were located worked. We took the stairs and saw it as a kind of workout, but if someone can’t do so, needs patience to get up and down! We had a room under the roof…it was comfortable, but didn’t have the spacious feeling as shown on the pictures!
8.0 / 10.0
The lobby was grand. The location was very good. The service was very good and pleasant.
There was only one elevator for all guests and luggage. . This made wait times longer and felt chaotic at times especially with tour groups arriving and leaving.
The service in the restaurant was inconsistent. Two mornings we got two coffees to go complimentary and on the third morning the hostess said there would be a charge. She didn’t charge when I questioned it. Dinner in both restaurants was good but service was slow and inconsistent and one evening the wait staff never came back to take our desert order so we just asked for the check. (Lobby restaurant).

Great property with very friendly staff and nice rooms. Very central location. Many cool pubs, restaurants, and awesome sights in close proximity. Also, there is a SIXT car rental spot (Edinburgh Old Town) right around the corner in case you want to rent a car to go to the Highlands.
The breakfast concept — a combination of ordering plates from the menu and buffet — was very nice (loved to have my daily Haggis :)), albeit slightly hard to understand on the first day we got there.
4.0 / 10.0
Good location. Great staff
No breakfast with a $500+ room. Construction right outside the window starting at 7 am. Very small room for a luxury hotel.
7.0 / 10.0
Location superb.
Car park not inside hotel.
Our room was facing a building site. Very noisy every morning.
Desk staff at night excellent.
Check in was OK, staff member was very young and I felt was taking everything very literal. Almost robot like.
Very cold on the bar areas owing to air conditioning.
