Maddalena House

My husband and 2 daughters had a wonderful stay. The host was extremely friendly and helpful. The apartment is located in the very centre of Varenna so perfectly located to explore. The apartment was very well equipped and spotlessly clean.

Everything was perfect! However, if you want a very quiet stay, this isn't the place for you due to its proximity to church bells and hubub of the square outside. It didn't bother us at all though. No air-conditioning although this is being installed soon - meanwhile the ceiling fans were very effective.

We loved the location to the San Giorgio square, little cafes and vibrant life each day. The bells ringing from churches nearby gave us a true simple life of Italy reminders of culture and simple communications across the lakes. The apartment was very well equipped with all you could need for a n easy time on holiday. Our host Marilena was exceptional, friendly, knowledgeable and warm. We really enjoyed day trips across the lake and the gardens abound with pure architectural beauty of bygone ages, efforts care of planting. All good no issues

I truly enjoyed my stay at Maddalenas apartament. The place is very cosy and the location is perfect - 5 mins to the beach and to the Villa, 10 mins to the station and several minutes to the ferry boats. The view is very nice, just at the local Church. If you get hungry, the local stores, bakery and coffee place are just a few steps away. The appartment is very well equipped which makes you feel like home and makes your stay very comfortable. But what makes this place very special is the host who is very kind, colorful, caring and helpful. I highly recommend staying at Maddalena’s place, it was a real pleasure to be a guest!

Lovely hostess with lots of local info and recommendations, central location. Balcony, all cutlery/crockery/cooking equipment provided. Spotless throughout. Fresh ice and /chilled drinking water were nice touch.

Lack of air-conditioning (did have ceiling fans and a plug-in) but weather was exceptionally freakishly hot. Hostess did apologise in advance but house is 400 years old and in a conservation area that wouldn’t allow external units as it would be out of character locally. Beyond her control unless there is another feasible option.
