Convenient and comfortable in quiet Varenna

Perfect location in the heart of Varenna. The apartment has a washing machine, which was a great bonus for us as we had been traveling for many days before arriving. The apartment is spacious and comfortable with great views.

The church bells ring at 7am every morning which would wake us up. No AC.

The perfect stay in Varenna! Lovely host, gorgeous location! Friendly locals.

This was the perfect stay and first place ever in Italy! It was such a lovely location. Central to everything, within walking distance to the ferry to get around to some of the other locations. Marilena was an amazing host! She picked us up and dropped us off at the train station and gave us a little tour where everything was. She gave us some great recommendations for coffee and little eateries! She was extremely accommodating and we loved her place. It was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying here! We hope to be back one day.

Our four days at Madalena House was perfect!

The location of Madalena House could not be better! Overlooking the beautiful Varenna Square was lovely. The restaurants close by were wonderful and with just a short walk, you pare on the lakefront. Clean and welcoming, with special attention from Marilena made everything perfect.

Great night in a lovely apartment that felt like a cosy home, in the very heart of Varenna!

Amazing location in the vibrant heart of the town! Lovely owner who was so helpful and accommodating. Little things also make a difference, like having washing tablets in the cupboard so we could do some laundry and nice ground coffee for the coffee machine. Really nice place to stay! Felt like a real home.

Idillic stay in Varenna main square

The host Marilena was brilliant and attentive, and kept in touch before our stay and during it. Apartment was very comfortable and traditional, we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Fully functioning cozy kitchen with a small balcony, modern shower, and double glazed windows excluding outside noise. Location is very central, close to the church with chiming bells and restaurants, there was no need to climb up the hill to get to our apartment. There is also a bakery on the doorstep and a convenience shop. Beautiful village to explore the lake from!

Picturesque, blown away with the beauty of Varrena

This apartment was perfect for us, spotless clean, location was perfect, situated close to everything. Has everything you need and more. The host Maddalena was very helpful picked us up from the train station took us a wee tour of the area showing us where to go and what to do. She also dropped us back off at the station. I would definitely recommend xx

Incredible host of a gorgeous, comfortable and well equipped property

The host was exceptionally welcoming and accomodating. Her home was also very well equipped with anything and everything one might require. It included washing machine and clothes detergent, iron, a ceiling fan for the bedroom, cooking utensils etc. The bathroom was super clean and well stocked, including a hand-spray with the toilet. The home was very well decorated and organized. Certainly has the old italian charm. Convenient and picturesque location! Marilena picked us up from the station, gave us a quick tour of the town and also dropped us off at the station, which we highly appreciated. Overall one of our best experiences!

Spacious, well equipped flat in great location.

Great location in the square. Spacious flat, equipped with everything you Might need in the kitchen. Great shower.. best of my holiday in Italy! Marialena was a brilliant host giving us useful tips and collecting us from the boat and arranging a taxi to the train station.

The church bells are a bit noisy at night and start at 7am but you get used to them!

Exceptional accommodation.

The accommodation and location were perfect for our 4 day stay. Very central to restaurants/ convenience stores and places of interest. Its the most beautiful location, 5 minute walk to the ferry. Marilena was a extremely helpful - a super host. She collected us from rail station and at the end of our stay drove us back to the station. Exceptional and a rare find of an accommodation in beautiful Varenna.

Exceptional host and beautiful location

Marilena was by far the most attentive and helpful host - kindly giving us viewpoint and restaurant reviews as well as lifts to and from the station. The location was ideal - perfectly positioned on the square and the apartment had everything you could need. Would absolutely stay here again.

The clock tower is pretty noisy and regular but part of being on the square so no big deal.

We can’t wait to come back!

The apartment was a perfect size for us and had everything we needed, even if we wanted to cook dinner. It may seem insignificant, but I was so happy with the bathroom fixtures that were all new and worked well! Nothing leaked or was loose. The kitchen was well stocked and even had a stovetop pressure cooker, big refrigerator and freezer. Also a large set of dishes and cutlery. We made use of the washing machine and we walked just across the alley to use the driers of the laundromat when it was raining. Otherwise, we could hang the clothes out to dry. The whole place is well cared for and the hostess had lots of information for our stay, including restaurants and places to go. She checked on us to make sure we were doing well. We would love to stay here again.

We liked the central location during the day, but sometimes in the evenings, there was noise from the restaurants in the square. It quieted down, though, and we had a good night’s sleep.

We enjoyed our stay!

Great location. Right in the heart of the town. The place is very clean and well-appointed. The host Marilena picked us from the train station and hired a taxi to take us to the station on the day of departure because she was out of town. That was super nice of her!

The town square below the apartment can be a little noisy at the height of the tourist season, but we adjusted fine.

Good base for Lake Como

A fully furnished apartment. It’s like stepping into your nonna’s house. It had everything you needed. The location is within a short scenic walk to the ferry dock. The host provides transportation to and fro the train station which is a special benefit. She provided us with a detailed orientation of the apartment to make our stay comfortable. The bathroom had recently been renovated with nice big shower.

Perfectly located. Host was very accommodating. Varenna is the perfect place to relax, peaceful and beautiful.

It is just good exercise to me, but you will need to be able to climb a couple of flights of stairs. If you can’t handle that, you should not be staying in Varenna anywhere.

Fantastic, friendly above and beyond host, gorgeous town, cannot wait to come back!

Marilena was the most fabulous host. She picked us up from the train station, showed us around town, helped us get settled, gave us recommendations, introduced us to friends, even drove us to the disco! She was a huge part of why our stay was so incredible and we ended up extending our time in Varenna. We loved staying at her place so much and can't wait to come back.

Marilena was a fantastic host. She was very kind to meet us at the train station and showed us around Varenna before helping us into the apartment. The apartment is very comfortable and perfectly located! Would highly recommend!

This Apartment with a lovely balcony, is in a good location for the best restaurants and the beaches of Varenna. It is very clean and everything you need is in the apartment. It has a big kitchen, cooking facilities, a coffee machine, washing machine, comfortable bed, high quality sofa bed, windows out to the piazza and views of the church and piazza and other ancient buildings and alleyways of Varenna. You can walk everywhere easily through the cobbled streets. The owner is very friendly, helpful and kind and gives great advice on where to eat, what sites to visit and how to get around the lake. The apartment is in an ancient building with lots of character and charm. It is secure and safe. It has a new bathroom with good quality finishes. The owner communicates very well and answers queries immediately.

Great location, apartment was comfortable and had all the necessities and more. Such a kind and thoughtful host who took the time to pick us up and drop us at the ferry, as well as show us around the area and tell us where and where not to eat. It was a such a pleasure to have a host like Marilena. Would highly recommend.

The Perfect Place to Stay

Loved everything about this apartment. Great facilities, small balcony, nice modern shower, plenty of storage space. Washing machine and drying facilities were a bonus. Marilena (the owner) was lovely - really helpful and friendly and took the time to explain how things worked as well as telling us about the best restaurants and things to do. She has done a great job with her design of the apartment and obviously takes pride in it. She has thought of everything (including extra pillows). The location, right in the main square, was perfect, only a minute away from the lake, with bars, restaurants, ice cream shop, bakery, chemist, small store and even a laundrette within a stones throw.

Would stay here again. Great location, very nice apartment and Marilena was a fabulous hostess.

Marilena met us at the train station and gave us a tour of the town as she drove us and our bags to the house, which was very well located next to the main square. She did a thorough walkthrough, gave us the keys, and provided recommendations on places to eat and sights to see. She even helped us arrange for a taxi when we needed it! Apartment had a washing machine and a place to hang clothes to dry, and she had the WiFi upgraded, all of which was very helpful. We loved listening to the church bells!

Almost no B&B's in Varenna appear to have Air Conditioning, probably due to many factors like 500 year old buildings. But it would be very nice to have A/C in the heat of the summer. Other people might not like the bells, as they start at 07:00 and last ones finish at 23:00, but we loved listening to them.

Bellissima!

Wonderful apartment in a fantastic location, with a very kind and helpful hostess! Marilena went above and beyond, collecting us from the station, giving us a quick tour of the area, and then driving us back to the station when it was time to go. Her recommendations for restaurants and places to visit are well-worth paying attention to - none disappointed. The apartment is spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable - a real home away from home. We loved Varenna - such a beautiful place. We highly recommend Varenna and Maddalena House.

Experience a real Italian home

Wonderful apartment conveniently located in Varenna. It was absolutely spotlessly clean. Marilena has thought of everything, she is super organised and the flat had everything we needed. She even picked us up from the station and took us back again. The piazza is very lively and sometimes has live music playing late, great for people watching.

Varenna was very busy with tourists (especially with how small the town is) and hard to get a seat in any restaurants. But this is expected from the time of year. Everything to do with our stay as far as the host and accommodation was perfect. 10/10 stars.

The host was fantastic, very helpful, very friendly. Cant speak highly enough of her! Location was perfect for a quiet stay on Lake Como. Very romantic area with enough bars, restaurants.

An excellent location, if not an excellent property.

We loved that the location was right on the small town square. It was an easy walk to the lake and the gardens.

The hostess is very uptight and she also seemed discriminatory (such as blaming "Mexicans" for turning the keys too hard). She was high strung and stayed far longer than she needed to explain things that we already understood. Very intense, and not the type of person you'd want to have at the start of your stay anywhere, really. The town square, albeit being very small, was incredibly loud until 1am. We stayed at another hotel on the square the next night and it was not loud at all, so we know that it was an insulation issue with this property.

Super clean and comfortable in great location (with great host)!

Maddalena House was WONDERFUL!! Exceptionally clean and comfortable. Marilena, our host, was fabulous (and hilarious). She picked us up from the train station and offered to take us to a nearby grocery store, but we were only staying for one night so it wasn't necessary. However, once we saw the spacious and well-equipped kitchen (and cute little balcony with chairs and table overlooking the lane below), we wished we were staying longer so we could use it for more than just a coffee in the morning. We could easily imagine relaxing and enjoying some meals or wine and snacks after a day of exploring the area. Loved the super fast (landline) WiFi and having a proper living room with large sofa and dining room table. There was also a kitchen table with chairs so we had great spaces to do a bit of work on our laptops. Bed was huge and comfy and bathroom was clean and modern. But the position was really the best part. We had window views from the bedroom and living room that overlooked the main piazza (and historic church and cafes below) and we were just steps away from the lakefront and only a short walk to the ferry boat dock and train station. We would definitely stay here again and for more days next time!
