Wonderful location, a close walk to everything we wanted to see. Great communication with wonderful hosts who gave us a ride from the train station to the apartment and left us a bottle of wine. Apartment was very large had everything we needed. We loved the beautiful terrace that overlooked the lake.

It would be nice to have another set of pillows for a more comfortable sleep.

The location was perfect. Our chief concern was that the apartment would be too noisy at night given its proximity to restaurants/bars, but this wasn't an issue at all. The town gets quiet fairly early and wakes up late. We spent hours just sitting on the deck and soaking in the fantastic view. In our opinion, it would be tough to find a better location for exploring Lake Como.

The Booking.com listing should be more clear about parking. Parking is available at the public lot about 5-10 minutes walk from the aparement. It costs roughly 20 eros per day.

A nice size apartment overlooking Lake Como. This place is in the center of the small town of Varenna. The owners were very nice, we were even picked-up at the train station.

Everything about this was perfect. The communication before I arrived was helpful and friendly. The host met us at the train station and drove us to the apartment. The apartment itself is in a perfect location with a view that is exceptional. We spent hours just looking across the water. The apartment is well stocked and everything you need is there including a washer AND a dryer (SO RARE in Europe). Plenty of restaurants are nearby and every single person we encountered was lovely.

Right on the waterfront. Good size although not enough space in the bedroom for two suitcases without using the wardrobe. Reasonable size kitchen. Large lounge dining area with views over the lake. Good size bathroom with washing machine and dryer. Small shower. Parking would be an issue if you have a car. The owner collected us from the railway station and gave us a quick tour and pointed out some things to see and do. Be warned that during winter many places are closed. Yes would stay again.

Could be very busy during summer and the noise may be an issue with the restaurants, etc so close to the accommodation. Heading in any direction from the apartment means up or downhill on cobblestones so if you have mobility issues this could an issue. Small hot water system. Cooking utensils ie saucepans, etc all well used. No proper breakfast/dessert bowls (we used cups for our breakfast cereal).

Location and balcony over lake was spectacular, managers very responsive to our needs.

I recommend Adding a dark layer curtain to block the lighting at night /early morning and hot sun in the afternoon.

This is a great family-owned property right in the middle of Varenna. The apartment has one bedroom and one bath and a small kitchen. Our family of four were very comfortable with the kids sleeping on the two separate single beds that convert from the couch in the living room. The apartment is about 15 feet from the beach (no other buildings in front of you) and the balcony overlooks the beach and couple restaurants. But maybe the best part was our hosts... very friendly and welcoming. We were picked up at the train station by one of the hosts -- Alberto - and driven to the apartment and given a tour and local recommendations. We saw him around town as well -- felt like we knew one of the locals! Overall, just a very nice couple of days by the lake, having good food and drinks and relaxing. We would definitely stay again.

This is an awesome apartment (and we had stayed at 6 different places during Italy vacation so we know which ones deserve the highest praise). The host and his son were very welcoming during picking us up. His son, Alberto, also arranged for an early morning taxi transfer to Milan airport (from where our departure flight back to the US was). The best thing about the apartment is the location and the view. The apartment probably has the best location in all of Varenna which also had a great view at the same time does not require to climb up a lot of steps. The apartment is on the second floor as per American terminology or the first floor as per British terminology (the floor above the ground floor). What that meant was the balcony was not on the ground floor - so you have an awesome lake view. At the same time, you do not enter the building on the ground floor but actually enter the apartment on the same floor as the apartment. There are some steps down from the main town square to the building but the steps are long as well as short in height and the slope is not very high - so it is not too hard to carry your wheeled luggage (either while arriving or leaving). There is a good washing machine as well as a dryer - you only need to have a little bit of laundry detergent (which we had got from other places we stayed at). The other 4-5 places we stayed at during the Italy trip had advertised washing machines and dryers but were either very tiny capacity or had issues or not physically inside the apartment. And did I mention the lakefront view? It is absolutely a view to die for. There were many folks who would be coming to admire the lake view and sit on the benches below the balcony - we had a better view from the balcony without needing to leave the apartment. The night before we left there was a fireworks display on the lake and we had the most convenient front row seats to the event from our balcony. One last thing, the property was very well maintained.

I am struggling to find things to nitpick about. The water heater capacity is such that only one person should take a shower during a period of couple of hours otherwise you will get very cold water. Plan to spread out the showers of the family members over a period of time. Also shower before using the washing machine - as the washing machine seems to affect how hot you can get the water. Also as I mentioned, get your own washing machine powder / detergent - but this is true for all apartments in Italy.

Alberto, Alberto, Alberto! What a great host he was. On the day of check-in he was texting me for our arrival details. He was then waiting for us at the train station to help us with our bags. He was extremely helpful with dinner recommendations, one of which was quite exceptional…Quatro Pass. The location right on the waterfront was unbeatable, the view, exceptional. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Varenna as a result. Upon check out, Alberto was there to take us to the train station, where we arrived on-time. Minutes later, Alberto texted me that we had left our passports in the safe. He raced back to the train station and handed us our passports minutes before the train arrived. Thank you Alberto!

Although the bed was comfortable, it was not quite to the standards of the property. No A/C, so as it gets warm it could become somewhat uncomfortable. We were fine though.

Unbeatable views and location. Plenty of space. We were met at the station.

We've stayed in similar older apartments elsewhere in Italy, but cleaning standards elsewhere are higher. Also, it wouldn't hurt to get better plates, glasses, etc in the kitchen.....the kitchen can be restocked at a modest cost in a place like Ikea.

The view and location are perfection! Excellent restaurants are merely steps away.

Missing many amenities like dish drying towels, paper towels, tissues. Disliked the easily blown out electrical circuits, terribly uncomfortable couch, kitchen setup with coffee maker and tea kettle electrical cords, microwave blocking cabinetry. Steep cobblestone steps leading to entrance.

The property was great and centrally located to everything. The owners were terrific!!!

Location was superb! The balcony views were beautiful. Met on arrival at the train station and driven to the accommodation- having a tour along the way with recommendations and a complimentary bottle of wine in the room.

Amazing location enjoying Lake Como views. Right at the hotspot of Varenna. Comfortable, great facilities, quiet and well equipped. Hosts were very welcoming as well.

The hosts Alberto & Giorgio were friendly & helpful. The view of the lake was perfect. The location was close to restaurants with a short walk to a market & the ferry stop. Loved having a washer & dryer. Very comfortable apartment with a good size kitchen too.

Im not usually one to write reviews however our stay at Casa Riva was exceptional. The location is amazing, the view from the terrace Really exceeded our expectations - perfect for sunset aperitifs :) To top off our stay Giorgio really went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. He offered many amazing recommendations for food and boat hire etc. We want to come back and stay longer!

Perfect location and panorama View. Love this place!! Alberto and Giorgio are very generous and friendly hosts. We Can’t wait to come back to this magic place
