Great Location, Helpful Staff

Great location and staff.

Restaurant was closed during our stay but they made a reservation for us in another good place. Also, they only have like 3 parking spots and it's a bit counter intuitive on how you get there. The parking street is so tight a truck could not get by our rental car with another truck parked in a spot across from me. Luckily I saw the truck stuck and moved the car so he could get by.

Cozy hotel right in the town square

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the whole hotel was super cozy and nicely decorated. Breakfast was included, which was really nice. The hotel is right in the center of town. It's not far from the train station, and close to all the points of interest. The Christmas market was literally right outside our door!

Mostly everything was great. My only issue was I had a hard time sleeping, because I thought the pillows were pretty flat, but my husband actually really liked them. Other than that, it was a lovely hotel.

Great location. Needs attention

Location was great. Staff very kind.

Disgusting carpet. Stains everywhere that we didn’t want to take our shoes off. Also a stain on the couch was gross. Beds very hard. Also think that they could at least provide shampoo vs an all in one body, hand, hair wash.

Had indicated needed Gluten Free provision for breakfast and this was provided on the first morning but not on the next two mornings and when asked staff member was reluctant to assist.

Great hotel, would definitely recommend

We stayed in the guest house around the corner from the main hotel. It was fantastic. Lovely room and very comfortable bed. Breakfast, which was in the main hotel, was very good. The hotel is right in the middle of the town so a perfect location for exploring. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

Lovely stay in superb location and friendly staff, just needed better pillows otherwise a great stay

Room was of good size and clean. Property provided garage parking at extra cost but this was well worth the price paid. The location of the hotel was absolutely fantastic, Breakfast was continental style and was very good

The beds were comfortable but the pillows were unfortunately like rocks. We had dinner at the hotel one night and whilst the food was ok it certainly did not blow us away and we would not eat there again

Cozy vibes and beautiful location!

The decor and attention to details is lovely; flowers, potted plants, heart cutouts, etc. The property vibe is homey and fits perfectly with the a quaint village in the Black Forest. The staff is warm and friendly. Everything is clean and well attended.

Black Forest Beauty

Our room was large, comfortable, clean and well maintained and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast buffet was very good and it’s close to nice restaurants and within driving distances to other towns in the Black Forest.

Not a problem for some people but I found the parking garage a little difficult to drive into and out of due to the narrowness and angle of the entrance. I drove a medium size SUV so a smaller car would be easier to maneuver.

A comfortable hotel in the heart of old Gengenbach

Hotel Sonne is in a great location in lovely Gengenbach. The staff were efficient and helpful, and we enjoyed the room, which was one in the newer back area of the hotel. The room itself was a suite, with a separate couch/bed and desk, which made it nice for us to spread out our couple's stuff. Nice bathroom with an excellent Hansgrohe shower (the company is headquartered in a nearby Black Forest town) that resembled our own at home.

The breakfast was pretty nice, with the usual options of juices, fruits, cereals, breads, cheeses meats, etc., plus scrambled or soft-boiled eggs. The only thing was that it could be hard to move around it because of a large table made up for a large group staying at the hotel, but otherwise we thought it good.

Lovely as always

Our last stay here was more than 5 years ago and we have always loved it. They have completely refurbished and developed the outside area which is lovely. Breakfast good and dinner in restaurant excellent.Location is Market Square ,now semi pedestrianised so if driving ring beforehand to get the name of the road around the back

-location - friend and helpful staffs - nice breakfast - simple yet well designed room, maximise the space and I loved the night stand and lamps. Cabinet witIh soft close hinges - must reserve your dinner table if you wish to eat there as it’s pretty popular,

If I have pick one perhaps the ventilation/ fan inside the toilet may be loud sometimes. It will be off/ quiet around 10pm

The property is recently refurbished and is in excellent condition. The rooms are large and nice with great showers. Excellent restaurant on the premises. Great location and underground parking is very reasonable. Excellent included breakfast. Will stay here again if chance arises.

Exceptional stay

The staff is very nice and friendly, the receptionist welcomed us and gave us a tour of the property - we really appreciated that. Very clean and quiet room with comfortable beds. The breakfast was exceptional, and the dining room was organized with a waitress. Parking lot available on the spot. Great location, in the heart of Gengenbach.

Fantastic! A must-stay hotel!

This is an excellent hotel in the quaint town of Gengenbach. We stayed in the suite which was large and spacious. The room amenities were more than adequate and the room heating system was very good and kept us warm all night in the cold autumn weather. The restaurant food is exceptional - we had the veal schnitzel which was amazing. The monkfish, trout and veal steak were delish. The continental breakfast was also very good with the usual cheese, ham, smoked salmon and eggs cooked the way you want. We were really blown away by the service from the hotel staff, especially Amalia and Caroline. Amalia was very friendly and showed us how to travel around the Black Forest towns and recommended the good food around Gengenbach. When one of my family injured his hand, Caroline called the medical hotline and directed us to the nearest doctor and hospital. She also have us an ice pack for the injury.

It would have been better if the shower in the bathroom had a toiletries stand for guests’ travel toiletries.

Nice Hotel in Lovely Location.

Lovely village/small town. The old town, where the hotel is located, is absolutely picture box. We were in a modern annexe down an alleyway close to the hotel. Nice, large rooms, comfortable beds, fan provided, shower was powerful, kettle & tea bags provided. Staff very friendly & helpful (provided coffee in insulated container & milk as no coffee bags or milk provided in room initially). Good choice of cold buffet type breakfast. Very competitive pricing.

No coffee bags or milk in room (resolved, see above). No air con. Shower temp. fluctuated after a few minutes use (pulsed between hot & colder). Unusually short restaurant hours at the hotel for a tourist area & some days when not open at all. Strangely the entire area, hotel included, doesn't seem geared to English speaking tourism which is unusual for Germany. No hot choice at breakfast. All the above offered in the interests of honesty only, we would certainly use the hotel again but probably more to explore the Black Forest than as a base for Strasbourg.
