Travelodge by Wyndham Romulus Detroit Airport

We needed a place to stay due to a power outage, and it was getting later and later at night so we ended up staying here regardless. There was only 1 worker to take care of everything like cleaning, helping other guests, and checking in guests at the counter. I had to wait 25min just to be told the security deposit is cash only. There was a piece of paper that stated that, but there was also another piece of paper that said it could be held on a debit card, so I waited to get clarification. We went to the gas station as told, then waited again to check in because of a line. Then, our key didn't work, so back up to the counter. Then, the TV has to be turned on by again said counter employee, so we waited for that. We were never told a breakfast hour, so we missed breakfast. I am usually told what the hours are, or there is a big sign somewhere that says it in the breakfast area, but none. It feels unwelcoming and cold. It smelled of mildew mop water in the entire place. The doors slammed at 2:30a.m. The wifi, AC, hot shower, and TV worked. We only stayed because it was midnight and needed to get indoors quickly. Otherwise, we would've found another place to stay. Note, I don't mind certain things hotels often have problems with like cigarette burns, etc I can over look the petty things, but this place didn't put us at ease, we had to ourselves. Creepy.

Value for a one-night stay was quite good. However, staff on both intake and checkout seemed slightly cold and the room floor didn't seem fully cleaned (a bit sticky). Breakfast was scant, but sufficient. Overall, a positive stay.

This place is awful! Room decor needs updating. Curtain had paint on it and was hard to close. Window mechanism needs updating. Entry door was off hinges. I had to literally lift it up off ground, push w/ shoulder to close. Requires $100 deposit, that they don't tell you upfront if booked through 3rd party. You don't find out till you get there. One main reason I booked this place was to use "free shuttle," to airport. I was doing business at the actual airport itself, not flying. When I arrived there is a sign in bold writing and highlighted that says the shuttle is for guests that are flying. You are requuto show boarding pass to use shuttle. Wtf...!! Absolutely makes no logical sense. It was like pulling teeth to get front desk attendant to call shuttle to take me to airport. 🤬😤 This has to be against some regulation or just down right discrimination. Also, they say they offer continental breakfast...joke! It's only a watered down waffle batter, horrible coffee & stale bread that's been sitting there for who knows how long. (See pic) If you are in a bind and need a quick overnight stay, then this is an option. If you want hospitality, cleanliness, working doors and accessories, a good breakfast and need access to airport shuttle, etc...Do Not Book Here!! Low budget doesn't have to mean low hospitality.
