Hakone Ashinoko Bikeikan 箱根芦ノ湖 美景館

The hotel has an incredible view over the lake and Mount Fuji — definitely one of the highlights of our stay. There were four of us, and we stayed in the Tsutsuji room. It had an entrance hall, a separate toilet, a smaller bedroom, and a larger living/sleeping area with an absolutely amazing view of Mount Fuji and the lake. Waking up to that view was truly special. The rooms do not have private showers, so you need to use the onsen for bathing. The onsen is separated into male and female areas and, as is traditional in Japan, it is used without swimwear. It is quite small, but perfectly adequate and very relaxing. Getting to the hotel can be a little challenging if you are travelling without a car. There is a bus stop very close by, but from there you need to walk up a ramp, turn right, continue uphill for a short distance, and then climb some stairs. It is definitely manageable, but something to keep in mind if you are carrying heavy luggage. If you arrive by car or taxi, it is much easier, as you can be dropped off at the back of the hotel, where you only need to climb a short flight of stairs. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel for people with reduced mobility due to the stairs and uphill access. However, if mobility is not an issue, the spectacular views of Mount Fuji and the lake make it a very special place to stay.

The main downside was the lack of a private shower in the room. There was also very little kitchenware for four people, and the rubbish bin was quite small. Another important point is that the accommodation is not suitable for people with reduced mobility due to the stairs and uphill access.

The best thing about this place was the view. The view is AMAZING!! And the 24 onsen was alright.

There’s no one there and it’s a bit overpriced for what you get. Everything is pretty much self service. There is no yukata and if you want a ryokan experience there’s other places nearby that I would recommend
