Sengokuhara Shinanoki Ichinoyu

We stayed for two nights, hoping for a relaxing ryokan experience, and overall the hotel did not disappoint. Having a private onsen in our room was definitely the highlight—it was the perfect way to unwind after a long day of exploring. The kaiseki dining experience was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. We really appreciated the authentic presentation and exceptional quality of each course, and the staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our stay.

There are, however, a few areas that could be improved. Dinner was served strictly at 6:00 pm, which felt quite early and limited our ability to enjoy longer day trips. Breakfast was also offered in only three time slots, so a little more flexibility would make the experience even better. It would also be helpful to have an alternative breakfast option for guests who don’t eat fish, such as our daughter. Our room (101) had a noticeable sewage-like smell when we first entered, which wasn’t the best first impression. The sink area could also benefit from brighter lighting, and there was very little space to place our vanity bags and toiletries. While the outdoor shower next to the private onsen was functional, having an indoor shower as well would have been much more convenient.

The private Onsen in the balcony was simply amazing. We enjoyed it so much to spent the evening inside it! The room was very spacious, there was more than enough space for everything. The breakfast was traditionally japanese but very good. The location is a bit outside of Hakone, which we enjoyed. There is a temple and restaurants in walking distance and it is very quiet and relaxing!

The toilet smelled really strong, like it has not been cleaned in weeks. The bed was traditionally japanese, but not very comfortable. There was nothing to hang towels ot toilettries bag. The staff was partly not so friendly, some did not speak good english.

Bed was extremely uncomfortable and hard Room was worn down, marks all over the walls etc. breakfast was not nice, we opted out for our second morning. Location was 50 mins bus from Odawara and buses were packed, also another 20 mins then to get to the main Hakone sights, overall ok if you don’t plan on going out much but not convenient otherwise.
