Very helpful staff that made my late check out very easy. It's not my first time staying in Riva Reno 54 Rooms and it's always a very nice stay.

The room was spotlessly clean and big, with the air conditioning in perfect working order. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, and the bathroom was equally well-appointed. In all honesty, it could have been the perfect hotel stay, were it not for a few minor snags which, I sincerely hope and trust, will be rectified in the very near future.

Regrettably, I feel obliged to mention a few rather disagreeable points. To begin with, the reception is housed in a separate building, a good five minutes' walk from the hotel itself. As this is far from standard practice, we naturally headed straight for the hotel building first, and only then did we spot that we needed to go elsewhere to complete the check-in formalities. At reception, we were greeted by a very charming lady who collected €12 in city tax from us (do bear this in mind) and handed over a set of keys. Upon returning to the hotel, however, we found ourselves unable to open the main door with the key provided; another guest had to let us in with their own. Since we hadn't travelled all that way to remain cooped up in our room, we clearly needed to get this sorted. I contacted support, who advised us to walk back to reception once more – I should reiterate that this is in a different building. When we returned, we were not issued a replacement key; instead, we trekked back to the hotel with a housekeeper (I fail to see why she couldn't simply have come straight over, rather than my having to go and collect her) and she showed me the precise angle and twist needed to persuade the lock to cooperate. Furthermore, although the room was billed as soundproofed, I could nevertheless hear our neighbours quite distinctly; luckily, they weren't overly boisterous. Beyond these hiccups, there is nothing else to complain about. I do hope the management will iron out these teething troubles in the very near future, as it genuinely has the makings of a lovely establishment.
