Lovely hotel, made to feel welcome and great location just off the sea front.

Lovely rooms with a fantastic idea of naming each room after a book with even the lovely touch of leaving the actual book to read by the bed. Hotel in a great location. Breakfast great.

Just disappointed that the actual room booked was not the room I was given when I arrived at the hotel. I'm very tall and was given a room in the attic which has slopping ceilings.

My room has a sea view and was fantastic, very clean, friendly host and the hotel decoration was beautiful, I loved how it was following different books of classic literature. My room had air conditioning which was amazing!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at chapter one! I arrived early for check-in expecting to be turned away. But I was completely wrong after a long 4-day hike I was surprised to hear my room had been upgraded.

Great central location with a boutique feel.

Building was lovely, rooms were spacious and comfortable. Steve the owner was great, very friendly and greeted us on arrival. Breakfast was delicious in the Paris library room. A lot of thought has gone into the hotel and its story which is evident through the service, furnishings & vibe of the hotel.

Chapter 1 provides the perfect space to rest and recover from the day - an oasis of calm and comfort.

Very well refurbished to a high standard and with an eye for detail. The presentation of the rooms have been thoughtfully planned out and all the most important things for a short stay are covered- comfortable bed, high quality bedding & towels, efficient shower and good WiFi. The host is exceptionally welcoming and his team very friendly.

A boutique hotel at the heart of Weymouth but on the Esplanade.

A change from the usual Weymouth hotel which although comfortable are soulless and focused on .coach parties. The hotel is tastefully decorated and quirky with a high level of comfort and rooms named after books.

Excellent, small independent boutique style hotel, centrally located.

We had a professional and warm welcome by the owner. The property is beautifully decorated we had a very comfortable stay in a relaxing atmosphere. Lovely continental style breakfast featuring delicious warm croissants, fruits, yoghurts and local produce.

I found the air con unit spoiled the ambiance of the room, it feels too large and was very noisy- shame. I just wanted a little fresh air on a warm day but was unable to open the window to sleep with and you couldn't sleep with Ac unit going.

A place full of character, hosted with heart

While Chapter One’s goal is to make your stay “your story,” it’s impossible to miss the amount of love and care that Steve (“the Narrator”) has poured into this hotel. The rooms and common areas are filled with unique, thoughtful details that give the place so much charm and personality. Steve is an exceptionally warm and hands-on host. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel truly welcome—offering great local recommendations and going above and beyond by including his personal mobile number in the guest handbook, just in case we needed anything during our stay. The location is perfect—right across the street from the beach, with plenty of great restaurants nearby and a couple of cozy pubs just steps away. Whether you’re here to relax or explore, it’s an ideal base. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a stay that feels personal, memorable, and full of heart.

An upmarket retreat in Weymouth

The service was excellent, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We really appreciated having air-conditioning in our room with the high temperatures outside. It was an upmarket retreat from the bustling seafront on the doorstep and well placed to walk to the harbour and a choice of restaurants. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Done the job but left dissapointed.

The location was perfect and finding the address was very easy, the entrance was clean and the front of the hotel was presented ok.

There is no parking at this hotel and if you want parking its either on the seafront at quite an expense or at the train station or other car parks which was not ideal for myself. I had a lot of expensive equipment in the car which could not be unloaded at the hotel so i had to chance it and leaver it in the car. The air con is a portable unit and is very noisy which made sleeping difficult. I did expect a coffee machine in the room and a mini fridge with water but there was not. For the cost of the room i did expect a lot more. The breakfast was continental and very limited in choice. There was cereal and you got a pastry basket which had 2 croissants in 2 small pains au chocolate and 2 hard boiled eggs with a small baguette in. The ham and cheese option was already in cling film and only one type of ham and cheese. There was a sign saying local honey but this was pre-packed in a small jar and from tiptree. Coffee was good but overall breakfast was a let down.

If I’m being extremely fussy I’d say the slightly perfumed air - I know though that’s just because I don’t like perfume of any kind. I don’t think most people would be fussy and would actually enjoy the fragrance

Chapter 1 is an excellent hotel, right in the heart of Weymouth. Steve is a wonderful host, who works tirelessly to look after his guests. Our mattress was really comfortable and our lovely room was peaceful. Breakfast was great and plentiful. We would definitely stay here again.
