I believe there was a nice view.
If you are looking for a Norman Bates style Motel this is definitely the place for you!
Having prearranged a room that was suitable for my Mothers disabilities (who also smokes) we were given, what can I can only describe as a Motel style room, away from the main hotel, which is officially classed as "Chalet"!
Now. It's important I mentioned, I had booked a room that was non refundable & the booking could not be amended.
As we didn't arrive until after 9.00pm, there was nowhere to park, let alone any Blue Badge paces.
Zero "street lighting" with the only real source of light being passing headlights if you got lucky.
Definitely not ideal for my Mother, but hay ho, we have arrived late & she stayed in the car, while I decided to go & inspect the room before taking our luggage in.
After nearly being knocked out by the smell of urine, as I approached the "Chalet"door & was welcomed by a room that, I could only describe as a battleship grey, glossed painted, straight out of an American horror film. Okay! Everyone has different tastes in decor.
This is where things become more serious, such as the bathroom, that was supposed to be for disabilities, didn't have a single support rail around the toilet or throughout the room in general.
The shower, well, was flaking with rust & was very worn by time, with that annoying ingrained black mold that you get in sealant after time was visible, grey towels etc.
Upon venturing back into the bedroom, the ceiling had a very questionable brown mark (not water damage) that looked like someone had maybe thrown something at the ceiling?
Now (& unfortunately I left my phone in the car, so, do not have visual proof) I can only hope that the small brown spot on the bedding was nothing more than an apple seed, but at this point, I high tailed it out of the room, went straight to Reception to hand the key back.

Huge room, comfy bed and heating was on. There was a huge dinner menu, lots of choice. Dinner was delicious and staff were very friendly. Fabulous sea view from the room.
I was looking for herbal teas at breakfast.

This was just a afterthought as we we're able to get the ferry we wanted bak to the mainland from Orkney so we opted to stay the night. Nice thing was that they had pool tables but other than that no frills.

Breakfast was lovely, wide choice, restaurant clean and tidy, staff very helpful. Food in restaurant in evening was lovely, even checking the ingredients as one of the party has an allergy, big car park, close to town to walk into, quiet location
the burger was advertised as being in a rustic bun, but was in fact a brioche, which 2 of the party dislike.

Location
Very dated decor with some aspects needing some attention, such as bathrooms and windows. Property was quite cold. Fine for a quick stay but would want more for my money if staying for longer.

Everything. It's a beautiful property with a great harbour outlook and very well located close to the ferry terminal to the Orkney Islands, which was our main agenda in the area. The staff were very helpful and the food was excellent.
All good.

We could have our dog with us, staff are pleasant. Food is lovely. Room is just what we needed. Would recommend staying here. We have stayed here quite a few times and will be back again

Location for Ferry
Dog friendly
Chalet was cold. Out dated and not super clean. Skirting boards behind bed very grubby. Bathroom very out dated - used it only out of necessity! Room was not spacious for a couple let alone with a dog as well. Fortunately ours is a very small dog. Our stay a week later was much more pleasant as we were in a dog friendly room in the main hotel building. I will do another review for that stay.

Loved the dining room and views from the big windows.
The outdoor stairs to our room.

Nice location, but the annex is dreadful, and looked like a slum. Food was ok, but not good.
The annex that we stayed in is like a slum. And some of the lodges look awful too. Really disappointed.
Teabags, coffee sachets and milk containers on the floor outside the door, and the building looked as if it needed demolishing. We stayed in 8 hotels on the NC500, but this was by far the worst.

Nothing was bad

The staff were outstanding, very good indeed. The Receptionist (can't remember her name) is the biggest asset to the hotel. She went above and beyond our expectation to make the stay as best it could given the accommodation. The Bar and Restaurant staff were also very good.
The management/owner of this establishment need to invest a shed load of money to update the accommodation in both the Annex and cabins to get them to a reasonable standard, currently they are below a reasonable standard. That said, the food was quite good.

Great location for heading to the Scrabster to Orkney ferry the next morning.
Staff friendly enough - good service at the bar.
Accommodation a bit basic. Clean, but basic.
Could hear people from roofs nearby/above (guy being sick!).
Accommodation block gave the look of an American motel. Not the pics the main building give.

The location of the hotel is amazing. Received a warm and friendly welcome at the reception on arrival. The room was clean, big and had everything as mentioned. The we got the sea facing room and the view was amazing to say the least. The breakfast in the morning was decent and the hospitality was amazing again !!
Though the window was completely shut, the noise from passing by vehicles was persistent

Bacon rashers stuck together as it had come out of the packet and cold. No fried egg. Toast had to round three times in the toaster. Compared to what I used to be served for breakfast at the weigh inn it was terrible.
Outside there are weeds all over and many broken paving slabs.

Nothing
Everything. Overpriced, dirty, mouldy smelly and not cleaned prior to arrival or during stay. It was our only option as we didn't have any other choice following last minute cancellation of our original booking.com property.

Very handy for catching the boat home in the morning. Very quiet and comfortable beds. The staff were friendly and we had a good breakfast in the morning.
The room was not clean, although the beds and bedding were
spotless, there was a lack of coffee making equipment. We didn’t shower in the morning as things could have been cleaner in there too.

Location perfect for what we needed Bed comfy and staff pleasent.
Bathroom very outdated and shower didn't work.
Only bins emptied in rooms towels never changed or tea/coffee replenished.
1st night waited for about 20 mins longer for meal than rest of group, I felt like they had forgotten to make it as asked after everyone else given food what I had ordered..
Although plenty of options for breakfast hot food ran out totally before staff replenished and coffee also cold straight from pot

Lovely scenery. Convenient having the restaurant and shops close by.
Plumbing was very loud and lingered in the cabins outside. Not the best for the money paid.
The breakfast food was self serve. Hot food was cold, not much option at all, hardly any food put out. Perhaps breakfast to order might’ve been better?

It was a nice building, and it had a very nice view of the sea and Orkney in the distance.
The shower was quite hot, it wasn't clear on how to turn the temperature down.

Self service breakfast had everything you would expect. Had a nice evening meal, which avoids having to look around elsewhere.

The location was excellent just on the outskirts of Thurso with views to Orkney.

Not much only the view and food
Chalet was more like a container draughty windows did not fit filled the gap with toilet paper to stop the wind TV didn’t work shower door did not shut
6.0 / 10.0
Staff all very friendly, good views out to sea and the harbour from the restaurant, budget-price and very close to the Scrabster ferry. Fish & chips were very good. One of the few places we've stayed with a shaving point!
Motel type basic room but fine on the inside and a bit better than looked like it might be from the outside. Hard flooring probably reflects having a pet. Prawn kebab was very basic and didn't match the description at all. Only none lager draft was John Smiths on keg, but they do have Guinness on tap.

Was surprised about the size of the hotel but dispite the size we felt comfortable. Large room and good food for dinner. Bar comfy, too. Breakfast buffet average though. Ample free parking appreciated.

Stayed in a “lodge” in the car park. Doesn’t look much from the outside but is a comfortable room.
Shower was a bit hit or miss. May have been my timing but breakfast buffet was passed its best when I got there and staff indifferent .

The breakfast was good and served hot. The location was good with lovely views.
The room and furnishings looked a bit tired and shabby. Could do with some TLC

Thought we were booked in a chalet but was in the main hotel with a lovely room.
Breakfast was lovely and bar area and bar food was nice.
