Location, food was great for the evening and breakfast, free car parking.
We were on the lower floor and the upper floor had very squeaky floorboards at 5.45 in the morning was quite irritating, the place is very dated and needs a makeover.
8.0 / 10.0
Comfortable room with good facilities.
There was an unpleasant smell in the corridor and bedroom. Possibly because it could have been a smoking room in the past. There was hair lying on the bathroom floor

Comfortable and welcoming hotel, with well trained staff. The room was clean, with a very good shower and bathroom. Breakfast was delicious.
Nothing.

Overall a really nice hotel. Rooms were comfy, the bar area was nice with a good amount of drinks on offer and the breakfast was nice. Also conveniently located for the railway station and bus stop.
The only negative I could find is it could do with a slight refresh as it felt a bit dated in areas.

Great location, staff were so attentive, the breakfast was fantastic, a great choice at buffet and good value for money.
Our room window wouldn’t close so we had to be re-roomed, the shower in our room made a loud noise and only luke warm water, hotel is rather dated.

All the staff were very attentive, friendly and welcoming, they all helped in making the stay so good. We really enjoyed being able to sit in the lounge with family as it felt Christmas's and there was room to play hide and seek with our granddaughter! She also enjoyed playing on the piano.
The food was excellent and we ate in the hotel both evenings.
I wouldn't change anything.

All round very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful in particular
The only issue I had was that the water pressure in the shower was a bit low but still a good shower

Staff were friendly, meal was good value and the breakfast was fine. The location was good for our purpose too.
Someone came along to our window from outside and banged on our window and whilst this wasn’t a big issue it wasn’t very nice. We did inform the reception staff who said that unfortunately this had arisen beforehand.

Great location for town centre. Free parking.
The room and entire hotel are extremely dated and shabby and in dire need of overhaul / upgrade / investment. No staff at the desk. Really tired and grubby bathroom. Hallway felt like a scene from The Shining!

This was a good location, the room was comfortable and clean. Parking was convenient. Seems to be a frequent stop for mid-sized tour groups as there were several groups that came through during our stay.
Breakfast was OK, the buffet items didn't get re-filled very quickly. We were told we couldn't eat our take-away dinner in the fireplace room, even though there was no one else around.

just don't even book this place its disgusting !!!
It was totally filthy and when i complained to the receptionist he said he would get us another room, to which i declined as why would one room be clean and another totally filthy, also the communal areas were filthy even the stairs up to the room had not been hoovered and the carpet was shiny with filth - the carpets in reception were dirty, the doors were dirty, the bedding was dirty and the room smelt of sweaty feet - i spoke to the owner Andrew the following day who said that he had been round with his head housekeeper and they could find nothing wrong !!!!! they obviously have different standards to myself. there was a chair in the room which was yellow gingham and it was full of stains, the dressing table looked like it had come off the tip, it was all chipped, the carpet was dirty and the pillow was sticking out of the pillowcase and it was all yellow and stained !!! i asked for my money back from the owner Andrew who said he would have to go back and have another look and get back to me ...... surprise surprise I've not heard from him since, so save your money people and book elsewhere ... thats from experience

Nothing much positive, bathroom ok, tea & coffee in room
Everything, was like walking into a nursing home, main carpet dirty, smelly, rooms were unbelievably
dated, like from the 80s. Left early morning, never stayed for breakfast, wasn’t eating there.
My booking was made for me only, I amended weeks ago, they wanted to charge me £10 extra for wife’s breakfast.probably the worst hotel we’ve stayed in, and the town is on its knees, this place needs a fortune spent on it & it was still £108 for the night, awful. Overpriced.
My advice, stay clear of this one, it needs visiting from booking agent and removing from site

Room, breakfast, car park and location all good which is why we have stayed at the Norseman 4 times now.
A technical problem with the fire alarms during the night of 9/10/25 meant that it was impossible to sleep.
Everyone in the hotel was outside for a period of time around 3am. This is a good thing from a health and safety point of view!! if in fact there had been a fire however, the alarm system sounded for a few seconds every 20 minutes or so for the rest of the night.

Super cheap inc breakfast so overall good value for money, bathroom clean, towels nice.
Tired and dated, aimed at guys working away, breakfast not great, room TV couldn’t receive most channels, door lock super flimsy
4.0 / 10.0
Breakfast was nice!
Where to start! I have no idea what was going on in the hallway or room beside our but it was very loud and scary with the reception staff banging on the door and the language from the occupant was colourful. Definitely not what I expected and would not recommend to anyone who wants a good nights sleep as the bed felt like the floor and the noise from above and outside very audible

First person on reception was not very helpful
The night person was very nice

Not much
A very “tired” property.
Room was adequate at best. Decor is dated and in desperate need of a renovation.
The tv in my room provided sound only.
My window did not close fully.

The second room after we had moved was a bit better than the first room. The staff on reception who moved us rooms when the first room wasn’t what we had requested was nice and got it sorted with no fuss. Upon entering the foyer looks nice.
First room wasn’t what we asked for. The bedding had stains and the bathroom door wouldn’t close. The second room the window wouldn’t shut properly. Breakfast and evening meal staff weren’t great either.

The Sunday Carvery was exceptional. The breakfast was also very good. I've never been in a hotel with a choice of 9 cereals before !! The staff were great too.
The hotel is a little tired.

The Room was clean and the bed was comfortable
Location next to main bus car park was run down, the common areas smelled strongly of rancid fat, there were 3 dog bowls in the lounge with dog food remnants around them but no dog. The dog food was not cleared for a number of hours and even after it had been cleared the bowls remained.
The lounge carpet was filthy/very stained
We did not stay for breakfast because we were concerned about the cleanliness of the hotel

Honest hotel, a bit aged but spotless. Very good full Scottish breakfast, also fresh fruit on offer. Very nice food. Room had a good size, bathroom had a tub and was very clean. Plenty of parking available.
All was good.

It was clean. They catered well for those with mobility needs and were friendly and helpful. They potion sizes were what I consider to be generous, especially the evening meal. We were able to invite friends as our guests too. The Sunday Carvery was excellent and deserves its reputation, and its available to non-residents. Experienced members of staff were friendly, shared in a little banter and even appreciated a little history about the hotel before it was The Norseman. (A bit of my mis-spent youth)
I look forward to seeing it again when has a bit of a make-over.
It was a Buffet Breakfast but oddly not for tea and coffee. Although the personal touch from staff was appreciated, this was not normal in my experience from other hotel stays. It confused me, and the shortage of a cruet set at our table didn't help, and in my confusion hilariously, I put sugar on my cooked breakfast.
I don't have a sweet tooth and neither do I like wasting food, so it was an interesting assault on my tastebuds, trying to balance the sugar with the salt I pinched from another table.
I didn't make that mistake again during our stay.
Some of the furniture in the room was showing its age, the same generally, with the rest of the building - its looking tired.
The younger members associated with 'Front of House' need to relax and not be so serious - a smile would make such a difference to the atmosphere.

Out of the seven hotels I stayed whilst doing the NC500 this was by far the best value for money! Exceptional quality room, dog friendly, though ten pound per dog, I have two, they provided throws, dog bowls as and treats! Exceptional buffet breakfast, with lots of choice. Cannot comment on bar or evening meal, having two dogs and being a solo traveller difficult to get out in the evenings. The staff pleasant, friendly and helpful, would highly recommend.
Nothing to dislike
