Beautiful house in a lovely setting
Beautiful house and garden, big rooms, well equipped kitchen for catering for our family gathering.
The provision of extras was very limited - no tea or coffee, no shower gel or shampoo. The property is obviously expensive and the lack of extra touches just felt very mean. In most places we’ve stayed there will not only be all of the above but often wine or local produce.

We had a nice weekend despite the points mentioned.
Location was fantastic and the house in general was lovely, lots of character and enough space for everyone.
The early checkout is something the owners need to look into, even for a house of this size it does not take from 9:30am to 5pm to get this house ready for the next clients. The cleaning you are asked to do prior to departure is very excessive, its clearly a hangover from Covid which is no longer needed. The cost per night should include the cleaning and changeover however it appears your paying through the nose and also expected to do all the cleaning. A 9:30am exit impacts on the night before so we found ourselves not fully enjoying our 2nd night of 2 because we wanted to make sure we were up and out on time and for the money we were paying this felt excessive. For such a large house the parking at the rear of the property is very restricting and requires a lot of coordination unless you simply park on street. Again for the size of the property more bathrooms or shower rooms would be better, with only 1 ensuite it restricts elderly people who need a toilet close by.

The building was exceptional and special. The grounds were superb, and the central location in Melrose ideal
The ovens were unreliable and didn’t work properly. I was unable to bake or roast food predictably, and had to cook meals for 15 people using the stovetop rings. The checkout time of 9:30 am, which included a requirement for guests to strip the beds, bag the linen and put out all rubbish from the domestic bins is the most stringent that I have come across, and made for a stressful and difficult departure for a group that included 5 young children.
