Horrific customer service and unclean facilities

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I paid for two nights but the place was so unclean I checked out early. The customer service I’ve had since has been horrendously shocking. Would not recommend at all.

Place was unclean, I checked in late at night and didn’t notice the bathroom had clearly not been cleaned until the next morning.

Great value, great staff, great food - highly recommended

Booked last minute due to ferry cancellation. The price was very reasonable. We booked a table for dinner (glad we did as the restaurant was very busy) - food was excellent - well cooked and large portions. Staff were really friendly - our server was a young lad who was excellent. Room was cosy with a comfy bed.

Beautiful stay in Thurso

This accommodation was excellent standard, right by the river and wonderfully clean. It had everything we needed. Very close to a wonderful coffee shop called The Haven.

This property has no lift and it has stairs to the rooms.

One night stay on our NC500 trip

Location great with parking directly opposite. Owners very welcoming and accommodating throughout the stay. Dinner menu offered good options including specials. Food was really nice and very reasonably priced. Room was lovely, offered everything you needed. Breakfast included and was nice.

Comfortable night in Thurso.

Clean and comfortable room. Very quiet. Room was lovely and light with a beautiful outlook onto the park. Quite close to town and easy walk to the railway station. Grocery store very close by. A great little coffee shop situated just around the corner. Friendly staff. We enjoyed a fun night downstairs in the bar where the local musicians ( about 10) entertained the crowd with Scottish music. One of the highlights of our trip.

The hotel was being renovated so there was a little bit of chaos whilst we were there. Otherwise, all good.

Enjoyable and a pleasant experience.

Breakfast was well presented and served quickly. Staff helpful and friendly. Room was large, clean and comfortable.

Staircase was slightly dusty but this did not distract from the dated character of the hotel.

Cheap but dirty

The staff were friendly.

The room (no 1) on arrival had a cold damp smell. It was not soundproof. Neighbours in room 2 were loud and kept banging and slamming doors at 6:30 am! The room was dirty and dusty. There were cobwebs all over. The floor was dirty like it hadn't been hoovered or mopped. There was dusty balls under the bed! The bedside units were dusty and we found a spider and cobwebs in the draw. The plugs on right side didn't work. The extension cable for tv and kettle was faulty. There was no plugs near the mirror to do my hair or make up. (Bad layout) the wet room needs a good scrub. Limescale and dust around the wet walls. The drainage in shower needs cleaning or checking as water was very slow to drain which resulted in the water going into the bedroom floor. We were sneezing alot during our stay. The kettle can't be filled using bathroom tap so we had to use bottle water. You have to ask for fresh towels or room to be cleaned. Which I think should just be compulsory. Ive cleaned in hotels before and feel the cleanliness has let down the hotel as a whole. The bed mattress needs replacing, springs were stabbing into me. Dark mark spots on the bed. Just felt itchy and dirty. Residents or people eating at hotel were leaning on our bedroom window smoking and been loud, including late at night. Regarding breakfast we only had it once and cancelled the rest. We requested Square sausage and given a normal and no explanation. The hotel does require some refurbishment as I feel it's letting the reputation down as a whole. Sadly we won't come back.

Excellent value in a small friendly hotel, conveniently located for travellers.

The family-run hotel was very homely, with a very warm welcome. It is obvious that many customers are regulars. The building has some lovely historic features and architectural details. Supper and breakfast were just right for both taste and quantity, and as our host is also a farmer, we can be sure the ingredients were very local.

Carrying cases up the stairs was a reminder of how we now take lifts for granted, but I'm sure someone would have carried them for me if needed.

I arrived at 10pm and the place was in darkness. Front door locked so walked in with other guests. The reception was in darkness but eventually found someone to give me my key. Room was large but there was black mould on shower silicone:-((

Great place but under the bed was very dirty. The rest of the room was spotless. Very warm in room. Could not adjust the heating.

Great view, clean room, good food. Would recommend. Lovely old house, lovely staircase, high ceilings.

Wall thin, we could hear next rooms tv all night. No chairs in the window area, in room 9 it would have been nice to sit in that area. Young lad who checked us in, didn't say where to find the room, or give us WiFi password, it wasn't in the room anywhere. Maybe one feature wall of wallpaper, or artwork to break up the stark whiteness.

Historic building by the river.

Very dirty under the bed. It will be lovely when the refurb is finished, but we felt a little as if we were in a building site at first. Not a good breakfast range - no plain yogurt or patisserie.

I would stay away!

The g entleman who helped us to our room seemed like a very nice young man.

Unfortunately, the accommodations were not as advertised on the website. Perhaps #6 Janet St, our intended location is nice, but #3 Janet St, where we stayed was a complete and utter disappointment. We do not require fancy, but we do expect some level - any level - of cleanliness. The first room we were assigned was not clean, so we were relocated to another. It was larger, but that only meant there was more room for filth. I have never written a review before, but I HAD to write one about this establishment. We should've cancelled, but after along day of travelling, we decided to stick it out for one night. The only time we took our shoes off was when we went to bed...

We liked the convenience

Nice stay in Thurso!

This was a nice last minute treat for us before we transitioned into NC500 caravan sites. Friendly staff dog , suite recently updated. Close to a nice walk along the river. Restaurant on site is always a good thing to have. We had the breakfast, not sure what the fuss is about in the reviews about the food, it was fine to me!

Maybe because we were there in the off season there was is no front desk staff. We weren't expecting to have call the property to be let in which put me on edge thinking they were closed. Some of the units may be under renovation FYI but other than that everything was fine.

Very nice place to stay

The accommodation is wonderful! The innkeepers as well.

I had forgotten as to whether or not breakfast was included, so at check in, when I was asked to complete a sheet of what I wanted for breakfast, I completed the sheet without thinking. As it was, I will be charged. I would have liked to know the prices beforehand so that I could have made a decision where to have breakfast elsewhere.

Basic, good value accomodation. Friendly family atmosphere and a lovely welcome. Staff were helpful and the room was as expected.

I wouldn't say there was anything I actually didn't like, but the building is still a work in progress, so others should be aware of this. But it didn't in any way compromise our stay

Really disappointing

We were allocated a large and spacious room within the BnB which from the outside looks nice and is in a good area near to the river.

Prior to arrival we had communicated with the BnB to keep them informed of expected arrival etc. During these Covid times we are aware that proprietors are being let down a lot by guests and so we feel it is only right to ensure they know we are arriving and roughly when. This communication wasn't even acknowledged. On arrival we walked in to find "a man" prone on the sofa in the dining room chatting to another gentleman. It transpired "the man" was the owner. He barely acknowledged us, it was like we were interrupting his conversation! We were then greeted by a young boy who proceeded to book us in etc. He looked as if he was still in junior school. He was pleasant and I know other reviewers have commented "how cute" they thought this was. Personally whilst he did nothing wrong it's just not what we expect. It felt like again we were just not that important to the owner! We were given a menu for breakfast, which is chargeable, and there was no alternative to a full Scottish breakfast being offered except which items within it you do or do not want. The owner seemed surprised when we returned the menu later and said we were not partaking. Having located our room we found the en suite was so small they had fitted the toilet seat on an angle. If it had been put on straight you wouldn't have been able to sit on it! There were two coat hangers, no dressing table or area to put our toiletries etc and no milk for drinks. The milk was forthcoming once we popped back down stairs and the "young boy" apologised whilst the owner continued to lounge across the sofa. On leaving this morning again there was no real acknowledgement from the owner, he just told us to leave the key on the bar. No enquiry was made as to whether we had a good stay. Overall not at all what we expect and to be honest we couldn't wait to leave which is such a shame as the building itself and its location shows great promise.
