🏞️ Riverside Retreat at Les Sorbiers

Our return to Les Sorbiers in Belgium was as wonderful as ever—this was our third time at this charming location! Situated perfectly right by the river Meuse, it is a truly lovely hotel boasting great outdoors and an unbeatable riverside setting. The tranquil atmosphere makes us feel instantly relaxed, and the scenery right outside the door is magnificent. Everything about our stay was spot on, cementing this hotel as one of our most cherished getaways. It's a true gem by the Meuse, and this place feels like a welcoming second home. We will for sure come back again!

Breakfast was oddly less well done than dinner: tables not cleared, food items running out, etc. Drinks under an awning in the park by the river slightly marred by live music - good but too loud.

Beautiful, quiet location (except when there is an event). Comfortable, spacious room and dog friendly. Reasonable choice at breakfast.

Lovely location by the river. Restaurant not guest focused.

The location was beautiful by the river, the breakfast was lovely with plenty of variety, especially pleased to see the egg bath so we could make our own soft boiled eggs. An extra coffee machine would be good as the queue was very long. The gardens were interesting to walk around and the parking was good. The lady, Anne, on reception was great and managed to sort out a refund for an overcharge that was made to one of our rooms in error by their system.

The restaurant was not great. We had been given a table in the full sun, it was scorching hot and when we asked if we could have a table indoors we were told 'NO', everyone had to be either in or out. We had spent the whole day in very high temperatures and didn't need this again while we were eating. No attempt was made to relocate us in the shade, it was basically like it or lump it. We asked to have our meals and drinks put on our separate rooms, we were a group of 7, we were told 'NO' it's easier for the reception if we don't. Every other hotel this week had been able to do this (Anne sorted it in a.m). The menu choices were very limited, Beef, Fish or Kohlrabi, as I don't eat red meat or fish I chose the vegetarian option of Kohlrabi. As my friends were having their mains delivered I was told the potato creamer had broken so I couldn't have my dish, I said I was fine with a whole potato (I was hungry), I was told 'NO' the chef would make me something else. So I had to sit there uncomfortably while my friends ate. Later the new dish arrived, nothing in the dish was recognisable except a piece of asparagus and a carrot, there was some brown cream and a disc of what tasted like uncooked flakey pastry, I tried a mouthful, 'NO' (I'm not sure what protein there was in this dish, I couldn't find it). I didn't eat it. Not chuffed about paying full price. The tiramisu had no sponge or marsala wine in it, it did not taste of coffee either, just cream with brandy snaps in. It was the last night of our tour and all these NOs kind of spoilt what should have been a special finale. Otherwise the room wasn't bad for the money charged however it was quite dusty, the shower didn't have enough pressure and was hot/cold fluctuating, big stain in the bottom of the toilet, the communal area toilets were less than clean too. It would be good if there were some chairs on the balcony.

Nice scenery but a over rated hotel

Quite basic for the price of Eur16

When we arrived at 4pm we went into the bar and we were looking forward to a nice cup of tea after a long journey. The young boy who was serving had no idea of what English Breakfast or Early grey was and just pointed out the tea caddies on a shelf which were the limited herbal ones on the menu. Next door was the restaurant who we discovered the next morning at breakfast that they did stock the tea we would have liked. That evening after a very nice dinner we went into the bar and the two young bar tenders had no idea of what a brandy/cognac were nor did the hotel stock it which was rather surprising !

Relaxing stay in nature

The property is beautiful with gardens full of flowers, well maintained, overlooking the river, perfect for strolls, relaxing and spending quiet days in nature. Romantic but family friendly at the same time. Lots of lounge areas, very nice bar. The dinner in the restaurant was delicious, although service slower as the hotel was at full capacity.

Some of the rooms are a bit noisy due to ventilation and old building. Slow service at the dinner when fully booked.

We enjoyed our stay a lot

The location of the castle is just great, enjoyed it a lot and the looks of the buildings. A unique, enchanting place, certainly worth a visit. Nice, friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfasts. Possibility to rent a kayak and go on the river. Quiet rooms, peaceful surroundings. It was a perfect place to rest and hope to return there in the future.

A pity there wasn't a kettle or a coffee machine in the room, although there is a bar in the next building where you can buy stuff. Sometimes just felt too lazy to go there.

The surroundings are beautiful. Dog friendly (for a fee). Very friendly staff!

The rooms are not well equiped at all. Sure, the bed is comfortable, but there is no air conditioner and we were extremely hot during our stay. On booking, it said that our room had a hair dryer. It didn't. The toilet room had very stuffy air and felt as if the ventilation was bad. We asked for vegan food and were told it could be arranged. Even so, the restaurant felt very unprepared. We had a booking at 20.00 and we waited almost 40 minutes for the starter to come. A starter and a main and we were still starving. There is nothing else for us in the area to eat because this is a remote hotel. It was a nice attempt but it was extremely expensive for just 2 courses that left us wanting more protein and fat.

Wonderful relaxing location

The location is excellent and extremely relaxing. The bar has a superb selection of beers and wines. The staff are friendly especially Robin the bartender. Made us very welcome

No TV or tea making facilities in rooms but this is a very minor issue.

There were quiet a few cobwebs in and around our bedroom otherwise everything was clean. No tea or coffee making facilities in the bedroom which would have been nice.

Nice hotel

The hotel is in a very nice area surrounded by nature. It looks like a nice place for families and kids.

The room was not very clean. The floor were poorly vacuumed (we saw nuts on the floor...), we fund some dust on the bed sheets, and there were black signs on the walls of the room.

Nice place with good balcony

In a lovely area and with lots of green good bed, and nice to have a bath and shower

wasn’t able to get a kettle, so it was inconvenient to get hot water for our room (in another building)from the kitchen. buildings slightly odd ‘new build’ / ‘historic style’ mix.

Great stay in a wonderful location

The beautiful villa has a great location in the midst of greenery, alongside a river. We visited in early spring, so nature just started to bloom and we could see that in summer Les Sorbiers will offer an absolutely wonderful scenery. We loved the rooms & decoration, which was simple & colourful.

Exceptional

The location on the Meuse river is idyllic. The room is spacious and clean. The hotel is high eco. Dinner was brilliant. Nice bar. Breakfast was excellent. It is so wonderful I spent an extra night and did some sightseeing and hiking. Very relaxing.
