Haddon Cottage - Darwin Lake Holiday Village

Location fab, nice and quiet.Easy to visit tourist places in Derbyshire.

Freezer broken. Sofa bed broken in places, mattress dirty, very uneven and uncomfortable. Floor downstairs dirty, children’s feet were black after walking around for 10 minutes. TV very hit and miss, struggled to work it. We changed the batteries but think the remote needs replacing.

I loved waking up to the sound of birds, and seeing a local heron in the last rays of sun over the lake. A perfect place to catch up with the family over a firepit and some marshmallows. We went out to see some of the many local sites, and returned to the base with pleasure every evening. Thank you. A real peaceful haven. ❤️

We would have loved to have some necessities like paper towels, salt and pepper in the kitchen, but we coped without.

The location was excellent, overlooking the lake and woods. There was plenty of space in both the lounge and kitchen area. It was good to have en-suite bathrooms for every bedroom. The kitchen was very well equipped. We loved the outside space and the various fire pits provided.

The facilities are good but some of the bedroom furniture needs mending or replacing - the cupboard door in the main bedroom fell apart when we opened it and the handle and side of the pull out single bed was very loose. The shower in the main bathroom runs very or cold suddenly.

Lovely property, with great facilities, but with several issues which, overall, spoilt the stay.

ALL of the floorboards throughout the property creak LOUDLY. Not so much of an issue during the day, but, at night, anyone staying up later than others, or anyone getting up during the night, would wake the entire household. The double bed is shockingly uncomfortable. The metal frame creaks with every movement, waking both sleepers, and the mattress has no edge support so one consciously spends the whole night trying not to fall out of bed. The shower in the ensuite to the room with the single, pullout, bed creates such a racket that it can be clearly heard in the double room. An early morning shower in the single ensuite means an early morning wake-up call for the sleepers in the double room. Overall, these issues spoilt our stay in what is, on the face of it, a beautiful property in a great location.
