A lovely dog friendly stay

We liked the setting with a beautiful lake and we found it to be quiet and relaxing. A lovely walk from the door for us and the dogs. We appreciated the living space and it was nice to have a separate table and dining area. We will visit again!

The place needs updating. Some of the walls are scuffed and need a paint. The furniture is tired and the table and bed wobble. The burned mattresses and other junk on the woodland trails need moving.

Peaceful, beautiful and quaint!

Wonderful location, beautiful site and loved our cottage. Lovely trail walk around the lake! Friendly and helpful staff!

The only thing we felt was missing from the cottage was a clothes horse (had a washing machine but no clothes horse and we had baby clothes to dry!) - but this was not a huge issue and didn't detract from our stay.

A lovely location and the accommodation was perfect.

The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed for our stay, clean towels etc . . . The location was perfect, a lovely view of the lake and convient woodland walk.

We were unable to park near to the cottage as the car parking area was full. We had to treck backwards and forwards to the car to the unload and the weather was awful.

Exceeded expectations, didn't want to leave

I would give this 20 out of 10 if I could. Well exceeded my expectations. My friends and I loved it. House bigger than I expected. The staff were so responsive and helpful, definitely went the extra mile for me. I will definitely book again, perfect 'get away' location.

Poor maintenance of house, roughly patched plaster, rusty bathroom radiator, filthy pillows, poor condition of furniture, the lounge TV didn't work for the entire holiday. I asked to speak to someone from the management team but no one was available the entire time. The cleaner I spoke to was very friendly and said she'd told the boss I wanted to speak to him and despite me checking every day no one from management was available or bothered to contact me.

Lovey location and cottage, would stay again but wil bring a book due to terrible WiFi signal

Beautiful location, right next to the lake which was great to wake up to every morning. Staff were all very friendly, approachable and helpful. Cottage was quiet and comfortable.

WiFi and phone signal was awful. Tv hard to watch as kept loosing signal which was frustrating.

Needs improvement in cleaning and cleaning facilities

The cottage is part of a complex and there was a lot of space for my children, age 6 & 1, to run around and play once we return from our days out. The morning view was just so scenic and peaceful. Simply loved the location.

The outdoor bulb didn't work, we reported it to reception but it was never fixed during our 4 day stay. To be honest we didn't find it clean, there was hair in the bath drain plug, we found 2 Christmas baubles under a piece of loose furniture and the floor wasn't washed in a while. We didn't find cleaning facilities, mainly broom/hand broom a spade or floor cloths. When my 1yr old spilled milk and went to ask reception for a floor cloth she gave me a drying dish cloth as they had none. To be fair she was willing to come clean it up, however I found it unpractical given I have 2 small kids who continuously spill and drop things.

Great location. Went with my elderly Mum & husband. We're familiar with Derbyshire and this location is perfect for where we wanted to go. Darwin Lakes is a fantastic place to stay regardless of how many of you there are.

Cottage had lovely views over the lake. Great location, ideal for exploring the surrounding areas. Plenty of room on ground floor. Very practical flooring for the dog.

Broken and loose slabs on path to cottage. Cottage decor was a bit tired. Mouldy grout in en-suite shower. Missing seal on shower door in bathroom.

Lovely stay in beautiful location - definately will be back!

Lovely property, a great location, and very amenable staff. We actually ended up with an upgrade which was lovely. The site is so peaceful lovely views of the lake.

A few more basics like disinfectant spray & Bin bags would have been great. We didn't realize there was building work going on directly to the rear which was a shame, we weren't in during the majority of their work but would have been good to know - although can't complain too much due to the upgrade.

Locely scenic village

The location was beautiful and 2 miles from Matlock.

The cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Thick cobwebs on the ceilings and walls, skirting boards very dusty, shower head black and mouldy and needed refurb. The cooker wasn’t clean and the fridge had sticky gunge inside the bottom shelf. We washed the bowls, plates and cutlery before use, as not clean enough. The cleaners really need to deep clean especially as covid is still a big thing.

Ok, not bad, but won't go back.

The location was great, ideally situated for the palces we wanted to see. The cottage overlooked a lake and it was peaceful. Overall the cottage was fine, but it needed some TLC.

The rooms could have been cleaner. The BBQ area was a tiny path at the back and we couldn't use the table. Wifi was non-existant, not good when you want to look up places to visit, eat, etc.

Location is nice, there are roads around the lake but not heard much. Cool on hot days.

Restful and relaxing but close to several main Derbyshire areas of interest.

The path around the lake made for easy early morning dog walks. Use of key safe gave great flexibility on arrival time which turned out to be crucial as we had a lot of traffic on the journey up. The book of walks in the visitor information pack was really useful.

The only thing I found not to my preference was that the curtains, beautiful though they were, did not block out light in the mornings. So, if you are some one who needs darkness for sleep you might want to pack eye guards.
