100 years old traditional Kyoto Machiya townhouse - K's Villa

Absolutely loved this place. We had kamogawa-an and the view of the river from the upstairs bedroom was absolutely peaceful and we loved it. This is my ninth trip to Japan and this is one of my favorite places to stay. It is in a quiet neighborhood, but there are plenty of restaurants around and you’re in the mix very quickly with a short three minute walk to subway station. You can also easily walk instead and be in the thick of it. The laundry facility there wasn’t working at the time, which can be important if you are planning on washing clothes, but they did offer us the option to go to their offices where the hostel is located and do your laundry there. We did not take advantage. There are plenty of good restaurants and of course a Family Mart within a few minutes’ walk. The floors are heated in the kitchen area and the kitchen is fully stocked if you really want to cook there.

Not really an issue for us but the stairs steep as they are in a lot of these machiya. I’m clumsy I didn’t fall once so that’s saying something.

Beautiful place

The photos are a little deceiving. We thought we would get the river view, but we didn't, so the price was too high for what we got. Another honest suggestion: please don't treat every tourist as if we were babies. You don't have to explain the most obvious things in such a condescending way.

Just having to check in at a different location to the property. However, the staff were informative and very helpful. So the walk to the place wasn’t too bad. Got to see the neighbourhood
