Lovely stay out of the main town, gorgeous snorkelling and lovely beach!

Tanote bay is so lovely and amazing snorkelling! Beautiful views and the restaurants on this beach are lovely. Property was basic but nice

Some Staff weren’t the most welcoming but other then that it was a lovely place to stay. Definitely recommend getting bikes or it’s a bit impossible to get round!

It was a 10/15 minute taxi ride from the ferry and town . So taxis were always required but it was still worth the stay

Lovely little bungalow on the beautiful beach.

View from the bungalow on the beach below is fantastic. Breakfast is bit pricey but ok when one buys additional items. Staff is friendly and polite.

Loved it so much

Loved every minute here. I could walk from my room to snorkel in 1 minute. Super beach and super snorkelling. Very private comfortable cottage looking down on the beach. Had the whole beach to myself for an early morning snorkel. Food in restaurant really good too. And a great breakfast.

No free pickup so you have to factor in the additional cost to get there. Koh Tao taxis are expensive but it was a fun ride to the bay on the back of the open top truck!

Fantastic stay in lovely resort

Beautiful location right on a beautiful beach with snorkelling right outside. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food is the restaurant was really good and reasonably priced. We are at the hotel restaurant every night. Breakfast is included and was lovely.

No hand towels were provided and the rooms were lacking a few bits which would have helped. With not much effort this resort could be exceptional.

Would definitely recommend

Located in Tanote Bay, it has the best coral reef from all the locations we visited. For sea turtles and black tip sharks you need to go to different bay on the island, but we did like our location the best. The all day tours come to the bay all day long, but it’s never crowded. Rooms were big, clean and comfortable. A/C working well. Shower huge. The roads around island are so so steep, grocery store and other shopping far away. We came for snorkeling and it was amazing. Best we ever saw.

Ok property right at the beautiful beach

I loved the location right at beautiful beach where you can admire the sea life all day long. There are nice restaurants and beach bars around.

The bungalow was ok, it was clean and with the beautiful view of the bay. However, it was very difficult to keep it clean. A small shower or a bucket where you can wash your feet before you enter would be useful. There were 2 sunbeds in front of the villa eve though it is for 4. There was no umbrella or shadow in the morning. The pillows were terrible. I can imagine it being great if the owners invest in it a bit more.

Modern room, excellent beach, room for improvement

Very comfortable room; modern, good bed, best shower, quiet airco. Best snorkling right in front of the hotel. Very good cooks; everything tastes very fresh.

Come on people, clean up the place, including the beach. Garbage, stuff and clutter are lying around everywhere and no one seems to care. Staff is a bit unsteady; sometimes they want to help, sometimes they dont. They see you want something and just ignore you. Sometimes one finishes their plate and it gets removed, sometimes plates remain on the table for another 30 minutes. Feels like a Family run business, because from staff you would expect more. Main building could do with a lick of paint. An outside shower would be a nice addition. Lots of text; all hoping to help. loved the place, would definitely to Again, but with minor effort this place could even be better.

Spectacular snorkling location

The reef off the beach was spectacular. Room was good,we had a family beach front room, but there were some uninvited creepy crawlies....perhaps to be expected in the tropics.

Bathroom was half indoors/half outdoors which allowed for spiders and cockroaches to enter.

Really enjoyed our time here. Location is a little remote which is what we wanted and expected. Staying right on the beach is ideal for snorkeling. Food was excellent, tried something different everyday and all the local food was amazing.

Away from everyone & everything! Great snorkelling & food.

Right on the beach you can hear waves whilst you sleep. The staff were so lovely. My son was ill, they wrote us a sweet note and gave us paracetamol, very thoughtful. It’s only 10mins ride to the pear, really close. They have a nice taxi man that picked up and drive us around the island. The food is delicious. Everything we had was super tasty! Kids enjoyed the best banana pancakes & fruit shakes!

A beautiful bay away from any touristy areas with fantastic snorkeling.

The accommodation is in a perfect bay which is so lovely and quiet, away from the touristy areas. You will need transport to leave the bay as it is down a very street slope and not near the main drag, but this was great for us. The owners are so lovely and helpful. It was right on the beach where you can snorkel in an amazing bay. We saw lots of brilliant fish. There is a large rock which you can climb and jump off if you want to. The accommodation has a bar/restaurant which we used each night. We had a large family room with a balcony and hammock which was lovely looking over the beach.

There was no air conditioning (which we knew about before booking) but we did find it hot at night to sleep. They did supply fans.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot

Beautiful hotel directly on the beach with direct immediate access to magnificent corals in the beach’s reef. The family who owns the place were extremely nice and went above and beyond to help with all I needed. Room was quite comfortable and extremely large. Perfect place if you want to spend time away from the hassle

Be aware that the place is quite secluded and not many restaurants around or any other facilities. The room and bathroom were huge and the poor AC wasn’t able to cool the entire place down

Great staff, location and restaurant, a few attentions to detail not great for the price

The best thing about this hotel was the location. The staff were also lovely. The room Was huge but they didn’t clean it or change the open bins routinely and it was a bit lost in translation so we went 3 days. The tv was enormous but pointless as not tuned. No hand towels and no hand soap which is a bit unhygienic but beach towels were helpful. The restaurant was really nice with a lovely open view. All in all good place as right on the beach but I feel that for the money (it’s pretty pricey), a few things should have been better. Also it’s a little frustrating saying my 14 and 13 year old could be free in a double room but actually I just had to get an extra double room. I would have opted to save money and have us all in one but I suppose they felt it would be too crowded. The staff were super nice and very helpful

A few attentions to detail mentioned above. TV didn’t work, aircon in one of the rooms didn’t go cool, no hand towel or soap for after the WC

we loved staying at the Mountain Reef, room directly accessible to the beach, nice breakfast, perfect location far from more touristic and busy part of the island. we'd love to be back.

Staff were very friendly and very helpful - they helped us arrange snorkling boat trip, taxi to harbour, nothing was problem 😊 there is quite good restaurant in resort, where they serve breakfast, drinks and hot meals but also there is another one right next to resort. Everything was perfect, resort is at the beach and has its own private beach - which is super perfect. Right in front of the resort there is snorkling area. Originally, we intended to stay 2 nights, but we extended for another 2 nights and it was really good choice.

The place is situated Infront a lovely smal and peaceful bay. The room was big, clean, lovely, with a huge bathroom. The view from the restaurant is hypnotic. Hotel is run by a local family who is doing an extraordinary job ... the food was great, tasty and served in a nice way, the kind lady cooking Chu is a pro ... never runs out of energy. If needed the owners can give you a ride to the port, thank you Ra. There is also a massage place on the beach. Lovely lady chatting with us, named Ploy. It's a super nice and calm place for a vacation away from everything, not to mention a huge rock in the sea used for jumping off the cliff. Hard to find places like this, you won't need anything else.

We stayed in the beach bungalow (big room & stunning view!) you’re literally right on the beach. Great for snorkelling. Staff is very lovely and helpful. Restaurant on site & a couple (one or two that were open at the time we went) along the bay.

A water station for free refills would be amazing (instead of providing small water bottles every day. Just too much plastic waste!)

the road getting down there is a nightmare very very steep. And once you are there the only ride that is available is back to the morning ferry. Unfortunately the the tv didn’t work and the walls in the shower could have a good scrub. Not suitable for people who cannot do stairs. Although there was only two of us we still had to pay for 3 people When we booked it seemed the triple was the only room available . $150 Australian per night is very expensive.

Amazing beach bungalow

This place is so peaceful and beautiful. We had the family beach bungalow and it is amazing! It is right on the beach and the view is incredible. The owners are so nice and the food is delicious. We would love to come back!

The restaurant does not look anymore like in the pictures. I personally like it more like it used to look (with cushions on the ground, Thai chill out style) but the restaurant also has tables in the sand, which we really liked. It would be great to get mosquito spirals at the tables.

Secluded beach hide-out right at the shore

We had the family beach-front bungalow. It is right at the shoreline with beautiful snorkeling 15 m from your doorstep. The bungalow is spacious and nicely decorated, clean and with comfy beds, fan and mosquito nets. The bathroom is boutique style with outcropping rocks integrated. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Tanote beach is peaceful and beautiful, away from the crowds, yet with a handful of restaurants it has all one needs.

We had such a memorable, turtle spotting, ocean fun trip!

My husband and I travelled with our five kids for school break. The stay was wonderful. The staff worked very hard to make us comfortable, and the meals they made were delicious! Beer an employee gave us tips on hikes and snorkeling which made our stay so much better! We will come here again. The bay was full of fish and the beach was beautiful.
