There was a rat in the room and the staff was not available to resolve the problem in the moment.

The quality and quantity of the food for the price. Example, the nachos were described with melted cheese and salsa. The “melted cheese” was a few squirts of Cheese Wiz, and the “salsa” was a few chopped cherry tomatoes. Entrees were very high priced for what you were served. In comparison, you could go a short way in a local part of town and get twice the food for half the price, but you will pay B800 round trip to get there.

Beautiful location - Jurassic Park-like mountain in the background and beautiful beach with incredible snorkelling right out the front. Staff were awesome, friendly, smiley people. Cool family huts. Amazing food!

Everything. The location, staff, accommodation, beach bar, food. All great. The proximity to the Buddha View Dive resort made organising dives really straight forward. The restaurant worker Kiat deserves a special mention. He went out of his way to learn our names and was always so helpful, kind and took time to talk to us. The food is a little expensive but really tasty. The all day breakfast is such a brilliant idea as we did quite a lot of diving and didn’t want to eat until we returned from an early dive. We had breakfast included in our room rate so that was still able to be used at any time in the day. The rooms are beautiful, huge bed, spacious room and hot shower with good power. Nice bungalows and so well built into the hill in amongst the trees.

The beach could do with more sunbeds and parasols. We asked about this and were told they had blown away in a storm - so that can’t be helped. Apart from that, nothing!

The location in tanote Bay is magnificent. The hotel is nice and clean. Snorkling rigth of the beach.

The beach is not very fine sand. And it is hard to find a place to just swim because of all the corals.

Not that it's a negative. It's actually a positive, but you are a bit far away from the busier parts of the island, so you'll need to travel a bit

This resort should be rated higher than 3 stars! The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The resort itself was beautiful and the beach was stunning. The food was pretty good. The staff were AMAZING! They were on top of everything. They remembered everything and were extremely helpful. I would 10/10 stay here again.

The one downside, which was also an upside, was the location. It’s far from the main part of the island so the taxi rides were on the expensive side. It was nice that the resort offered cheaper taxis throughout the day, but they ended by 4:30pm. It would be nice if they went past dinner time! If you have to take a private taxi though, they help you get something set up. The upside of the location was that it was less crowded and I really felt like I was in island paradise.

We booked the superior bungalow which was set up a path amongst the trees.It was very private .Room was lovely .Large comfy bed , flat screen tv, fridge , en-suite bathroom , air conditioning.

The beach could do with more sun beds as there were not enough for the amount of guests staying there .

The hotel restaurant is not very good. Basic food. Breakfast is ok. The drain was stuck couple of times but they always came very quickly to fix it.

What Booking forgets to tell u if u book STANDART BUNGALOW comes with SHARED BATHROOM !!! If there's a posibility u can upgrade to superior room for quite big sum of money. U get a superior room with superior price. Yet our room was dark!!, facing road and not nice at all. Could hear other guests from their rooms. The only plus was our own bathroom. It just spoiled our holiday. It's a bit out of the way of Koh Tao "town" so u need to rent a bike or pay taxi which is 400thb each way. Resort have an option of transport 100pp to the pier a way but it ends at 16-16.30. And no, u can't walk to town unless ure suicidal. The road is dark and very dangerous. Great staff!! Seriously the staff been soo lovely!!! Fabulous breakfast. Nice beach bar. Nice beach. U can actually swim. But needs more sunbeds.

STANDART BUNGALOW comes with SHARED bathroom!! Booking web DOES NOT MENTION!! We did pay for upgrade. Which cost a significant money. Superior room was not nice at all. Dark, facing road and quite loud. Its not Resort faul its this web!! Beach needs more sunbeds.

Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful bay with great snorkling, good dive center (Buddha View). Rooms are comfy, soft mattresses.

The hotel is situated in a remote part of the island. This means that every time you want to go into town (or anywhere else), you pay 400 / 500 THB for a taxi (one way). The idyllic location totally makes up for it though.

Breakfast, not the best (they didn't have fresh juice) but pretty good.

The location is far away from the center, so you need a bike or taxi all the time. In the beach nobody was swimming because there were too many rocks and they only have normal plastic chairs (not so confortable as beach chairs) without many sunshades. So if you want to enjoy the beach you need to call a taxi and go somewhere else. Internet didn't work fine in the rooms, and in one of them didn't work at all. Some rooms have shared bathroom, and as there are lots of trees nearby, we found cockrouchs inside every day (maybe you need to make some noice before going inside). Also in those bathrooms the shower and the WC are together and when you take a shower all the floor gets wet (really the whole bathroom floor is flooded). We recommend to go with moskito repellent because there are lots of them, between 17:00 and 19:00 you can't be in the reception, and cross your fingers that there are none of them inside your room. You have to enter and exit your room very quickly so no mosquito goes inside or you will find yourself trying to get rid of them all night long. Also we changed room and they never gave as the key, we arrived at 22:30 pm, the receptionist left at 22:00pm. We called and wrote to them but no answer (they didn't contact us telling where to find it) so we had to sleep 3 people totally uncomfortable, with not even an apologize (reception just said its your fault). If you have any issue, don't expect any kind of refund from their part. The first time we have such a bad experience in a place that has a good evaluation in booking.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Beautiful, quiet area right on the beach great for snorkeling Room was great for family of 4, would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were very clean the staff were exceptional . the beach is the best place for a family snorkelling trip . My grandchildren’s first Time and they loved it would highly recommend staying here. we will definitely be going back.

a little steep up to the rooms for injured or unfit disabled ect. Easy for a normal level of fitness.

Rustic chalet in beach setting was a wonderful change from city life. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the made to order breakfast meant less wastage of food. Possibility to snorkel and dive from resort is definitely an advantage.

The beds were a tad uncomfortable, but perhaps fitting for the rustic feel!

This is my second time staying at Montalay. I stayed in one of the lovely garden cottages. The resort and rooms have everything you need and is right on the (amazing) Tanote Bay beach... which had walk in access to the beautiful reef and all the creature that call the bay home. The biggest credit to Montalay are its staff. It was lovely to see some of the same employees who were working at Montalay on my previous visit and who surprisingly remembered me 😊 As a solo traveller they really made me feel welcome and at home. Fantastic value for money.

Nothing. Just be mindful that the resort is set in the heart of Koh Tao nature - meaning that you are sharing your space with mosquitos and other critters. Go prepared - I would recommend investing in anti-mosquito spray and/or plug in for yourself and your room. Both can be found in the 7-Eleven at the pier. If you ask the Montalay driver picking you up from the pier then you should have a few minutes to pop to the shop before heading over to Tanote Bay.

It's right next to Tanote beach, which is an amazing spot. There aren't so many restaurants in the location, so we rented a scooter via the hotel, which worked perfectly and then we were pretty mobile getting around the island. The staff were are very friendly and helpful.

The daily staff were exceptional, a mix of Burmese and Thai but very helpful and simply couldn’t do enough for you. the pool was fantastic

on the second day the WiFi did not work, l complained to the owner, who said he would get an engineer to see to it. This of course was a total lie, he never had any intention to fix it. Over the eight days we spent here the WiFi was crap every day, upon enquiry ALL the other guests l spoke to said the same. The breakfast buffet was great for one day, but after eight was monotonous, and overall bad quality, my Thai wife is an exceptional chef and said that the menu could have been improved at no extra cost, it tended to be quite cheap anyway. as l said for one or two days no problem, but having lived in Thailand for a number of years, well honestly, it should be better. To hire a scooter 300 b per day roughly 100 b more than most places, we had hired scooters on Kho Pangan for three weeks at 180 b per day.

Super nice rooms with aircon and comfy beds - go for the deluxe/superior only Beachfront location at its best. Convenient taxi service , very fast. Nice staff in restaurant Perfect located for scuba diving

To start off the location is beautiful. A nice little bay with its own beach and amazing underwater life to explore when snorkling or diving. The resort has its own diving centre with excellent instructor, a beautiful infinity pool and the restaurant is very nice too. Excellent breakfast, fresh fruit, pancakes, different types of eggs, continental breakfast but also some nice local dishes to choose from. The bungalows are cosy, clean, located in the tropical garden by the beach so you are surrounded by nature ❤️ It is quiet but if you want to visit other parts of the island you can take the free shuttle provided by the resort. Loved this service and have used it several times.

I have stayed here several times during the last 8 years, there’s nothing I didn’t like.
