Lub d Koh Tao Tanote Bay

Out of everywhere we have stayed so far lub d has had the best staff best service best room as of yet we can’t thank the staff enough for how warm and welcoming they were we really enjoyed our stay and would really recommend

Lub d Tanote Bay, Koh Tao is great The staff from the moment we arrive to the moment we left were exceptional. They did everything they could to make sure that I stay was enjoyable and work friendly and helpful throughout I have nothing but positive things to say about the whole team. The location is excellent. Many of the rooms are very close to the beach. The beach itself is on the other side of the Island from all of the main areas for shopping and bars Etc, but it makes for a very calm and enjoyable stay. A taxi is 4 or 500 baht. The bar and food are great. Breakfast can be eaten whenever and includes both western and Thai options. I would be happy to stay again. We stayed here for five nights in a private bungalow with shared bathroom. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube built in. Although we were unable to cast from our phones for the world cup! The shared bathroom was fine (one bathroom between two bungalows), including basic amenities. However I do think they should use bin bags in the bathroom bin for hygiene purposes. On our second night I reported that the shower was not hot and was not draining. It had run cold since our arrival. I checked in again in the morning to ensure this message was handed over. By the end of that day it still wasn’t resolve. I mentioned it again to reception who seemed to have no record of the issue. At this point they fixed the issue straight away which was a little frustrating as this meant basic checks pre check in were not completed i.e. ensuring hot running water in the bathroom. We had been in the water both days and really needed a warm shower. One thing I must highlight is the hotel’s location. It is a beautiful location in Tanote Bay with beach access. This said, I do think the hotel need to mention in their description that access to the hotel is via a very steep, and winding road. I have ridden a scooter in several countries and I did not feel comfortable to rent a bike and ride those roads. This limits what you can access and do from Lub d. I saw another accommodation write in their description that access was via steep, winding roads, and customers not comfortable using a scooters should not stay there. I think Lub D really should state this. Walking into town or to the pier is not much of an option either given the steep incline, blind corners, and heat. It would take at least 1 hour to reach the pier. Lub d do have a shuttle service a few times a day to the pier etc at 100 baht (shared) or 400 baht (private journey). I think they could run this more frequently, run later into the evening (the last one is 4.30 pm), and make it complimentary much like other hotels. If you are planning any sort of day out of Lub D you must factor these costs into your budget, because it all adds up. A breakfast with drink was included in our stay which was nice. Plenty of choice and good portions, and available til 6pm! We bought dinner there another night and we were both surprised and disappointed with how small the portions were given the cost. While Lub d are a company with several hotels I think they should run a comparison between their food offering and other restaurants along Tanote Bay. It is no accident that we saw several other guests eating elsewhere. The prices and portion size were more favourable. In fairness, the serving staff are very pleasant at Lub D. In summary, we had a comfortable stay at Lub d, Tanote Bay. If you would like a relaxing 'do nothing' trip it's a great option. However, if you would like to take a diving course from the pier or see elsewhere in the island then logistically it is a difficult location.
