There is a patch of woodland just behind the hotel, with more places to walk not far away. It's not in the centre of town, but there are plenty of restaurants within a 15-minute walk. Well located for access to the North Wessex Downs (assuming you have transport). Breakfast was very good, staff generally helpful.
My only complaint is the cost of parking - although, to be fair, this was made clear in advance. £7.50 a day seems a lot to pay.

All the staff we spoke to were really attentive to what we needed. The beds were really comfy. The tea selection in the room was good - we liked the black peach tea. Check in was easy and staff were friendly towards our children.
The heater/air con unit in the room was loud even when it was turned off. There were no towels at the pool so we had to go back to the room to get them from there.

Ridiculous prices for average food options.
