The buzzer to carpark didnt work luckily someone was coming out so staff member let me in , buzzer is tempremental apparently , and pool could do with an upgrade but still enjoyed my little swim

Nice hotel in the centre of Carlisle

An old-fashioned 'grand' hotel in the middle of Carlisle. We were in the annex which looks a bit drab from the outside but is actually very nice. The room had everything you would expect including good free wifi, a kettle etc. The £11.50 breakfast (in advance or £15 on the day) was pretty standard but worth the money. Lots of shops, pubs, cafes and well-rated restaurants nearby, as are the castle and cathedral.

Nothing comes to mind. We were able to use their free car park that has maybe 15 spaces so we're not sure about alternatives - street parking is very limited but there are several cheapish car parks around.

Great. Down in Carlisle regularly and usually stay at B &B's and pay less but will be back to Crown

Great location. Staff were were down to earth and not like the robots you usually meet in hotels who have to read off their scripts. The heating was on. Great to come back and the room was warm.

If breakfast was cheaper I would have bought it.

Great place to stay in the centre of the city

The location is excellent with the benefit of a secure car park The breakfast staff in particular were welcoming, warm ad friendly . the building itself is interesting with original features retained see photos the city has the usual corporate stores but plenty of little independent shops including a bookshop , great Art Gallery , Castle and Citadel , public transport is well served with a large station, and the market place has been refurbished to a high standard

The building is an old and beautiful building and the rooms have been refurbished to a high standard. But be aware the windows are old and a bit draughty and the views from some of the rooms are restricted.

Good, but don’t have a room in the front!

Room was serviced each day. Plenty of room. Good location with plenty of restaurants and Bars nearby. Generous with the coffee, tea and biscuits.

Being woken up at 5 o’clock in the morning with a very noisy cleaning vehicle in the square outside. I absolutely could not stay in a room at the front again because of it. It went on for two hours.

Very comfortable andgood value for money

Breakfast was excellent. Service from the staff was excellent. The only slight drawback was that I could here snoring from the adjacent bedroom- but fortunately it was gentle snoring not too loud.

Maybe the soundprrofing in the rooms could be improved.

Excellent position in centre of city. Very pleasant helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent and good choice. Good size bedroom and bathroom.

This is a very old hotel with lots of charm, however, decor was very dated especially in corridors. Bathroom decor was also dreadful. Bed too hard for our taste.

Breakfast was lovely, my wife is lactose and nut intolerant and this was not a problem, compared with some hotels we have stayed in, staff provided all dietary requirements and nothing was a problem. Room was small but adequate, a noise issue, see below, but facilities were good. Bathroom door scrapes over the floor and if not rectified will soon ruin the tiles. I meant to mention it in the hotel but forgot. Location spot on for looking round the city, didn’t realise it was that central so was a big plus factor.

The noise from the lane outside the rear of the hotel, room 103, from approx 0630 until around 0730 was annoying. Appreciate it is out of the hotels remit but it certainly ensured a very early, but unwanted, start to the day.

Beautiful old building in the heart of Carlisle, very near the cathedral and the castle and shops.

The lady behind the check out desk was outstanding. Polite, friendly and helpful. She went out of her way to try and meet our request for twin instead of double bed and when that wasn't available for the first night to provide additional bedding. She also rang up people coming in the next day and managed to find a couple who were willing to swap so that we had a room with twin beds for the next two nights.

Breakfast on the first day, items on the 'hotplate" buffet were cold, eggs, beans. 2nd day decided to have cooked breakfast poached egg and scrambled eggs, the order was given but not delivered to the kitchen. Spoke to the waitress in charge and she explained that orders had to go through her and apologised for the delay (25 mins in total by the time we received the food).

Was in a corridor away from the lift so did have to lug suitcase up and down a bit. Some decor - mostly carpet- probably needs to be changed.

Beautiful building, ornate decoration. Very friendly staff and lovely breakfast.

Shower is very powerful, but the shower curtain sticks to you, screens would be much better. The car park is very awkward to find and you have to get someone to unlock the gate on arrival and at night. Not enough milk sachets or tea bags in the room

Good location but noisy

Location is close to centre of town but a nightmare to find their car park.

Specifically chose a hotel with a lift as I had a heavy bag as I was travelling for an extended period. Got given a room that was only accessed by then going up 6 steps. The ramp from the car park was also not in use so I had to drag my bag up about 10 steps. The rooms have no insulation so I could hear every neighbour. The room was hot and the windows only open a crack. There is construction outside that started at 0640 so sleep was impossible.

Elegant space, minor irritants, would return

Gorgeous building, full of fascinating features, crazy stairwells, elegant stained glass windows and all manner of architectural marvels

No fault of the hotel, but the road works out front made it difficult to walk around. The reception staff needs to make it clearer that the lift may not go to your floor— I had to carry my bags up another flight of stairs from the lift. The door lock also needed to be explained, and the breakfast was late in morning. It didn’t affect me as I was in no hurry, but the table next to me was getting angry. Also, even though the menu indicated there were vegan items, they were not offered.

Stayed here many times. Great location for visiting all the sights in Carlisle. Nice spacious, clean room with comfortable bed. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful.

Carparking is limited at the hotel but there is a secure carpark within easy walking distance.
