Cleanliness of bedroom and bathroom was very good and the view was superb
Booked a room with a four poster bed and found out that the bed was a cut down version of a four poster bed, ie the posts were only about 20inches tall above mattress, so was a little disappointed, as it was for a valentines night.

It was definitely good value for money, the price compared to everywhere else was amazing. Staff were also friendly and helpful, they were happy to assist where possible. The hotel is situated in a nice little location near the harbour, with several other pubs in the area. I enjoyed the evening and playing pool, the food served was also of good quality.
The breakfast was restricted and would have benefited from having a larger variety or a bigger full English. I stayed in the small double room, the room was cold on arrival due to the radiator being switched off. One of the lights didn't work by the headboard; however, I didn't use this so it didn't really effect me. The bathroom door also didn't latch closed when shut due to a faulty handle.

This is a no frills stay, but a perfect location for what I needed which was to be near to the Pier and the Sea, and my family and friends. Bed was made every day with new towels provided. Room had all requirements I needed.
Nothing, it was a great stay for me.

There is nothing to like about this hotel
This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in, we complained to the hotel about the following and asked for a refund which they refused.
Poo still in the toilet
Urine marks on the toilet
Mould and grime in the toilet
Bed was on a slop and we kept rolling out
Pillows where dirty and smelt of a sour smell
Shower had not been cleaned
Dust everywhere
Windows sealed up
Lound noises most of the night form outside pubs etc

Near to the places we want to visit.
Though it was cold day, windows of the room were open and it took 45-60 min for room to come to a normal temperature. Room was not at all welcoming. Beds were also making sound, steel rod bed frames are not ideal, should be replaced with wooden one.

Dirty. Dusty. We sneezed all night. the room was exceptionally small. The window was very hard to open. Very uncomfortable stairs for the room in the third floor.

Great location
Very tired looking. We stayed here a few years ago and it clearly needs revamping. Bathroom was mouldy and toilet did not flush properly. The bed was awful every time one of us moved it creaked so loudly it woke us up. Its a shame as it used to be a great place to stay.

Its features and quirks
Although clean, attention to detail is needed. Lots of dust and dirty window sills to name a few.

The accommodation was basic but very good value for money. The room was very clean and the beds comfortable. Staff were very responsive and friendly. An excellent breakfast. The location was perfect for walking the Coast Path.

Incredible location and view. Value for money is of the charts as long as you're not looking for 5 star comfort. Decent little find.
Rooms and general decor could do with a bit of love. Pub below seemed friendly and steeped in history but looked a little tired.
Loads of potential though with some decent investment.

The location was excellent.
The bed was very wobbly and creaked every time one of us moved, waking the other. One pillow was filthy. Each time someone else used a shower, ours started to leak. Woken by others using water, as pipes seemed to go through the room and it was really loud. Windows single glazed, so v noisy when people outside. The toilet didn't flush properly. 2 people smoking weed in the doorway when we came in at night. Breakfast was poor. We paid for it as an extra when we arrived. No decaf option for tea/coffee. You had to go to a side room and get your bread from a loaf in a plastic bag that other guests had put their hands in. The guy bringing food out was loudly talking about how rubbish the chef was. The alleged full English breakfast was not 'full' at all. I've stayed in many hotels through Booking.com, paying various amounts of money per night, and this is absolutely not their usual standard of accommodation. We have always had a good stay. It wasn't hugely expensive, so we expected fairly basic and would have been fine with that, but being clean and being able to sleep is fundamental...you would think! Very disappointed. Lucky we only booked one night. Not had to give a bad review before, that I can remember, but there were too many things to let this one go.

Great central location with hotel being as we thought it would be at time of booking. Overall price was very good with breakfast booking made when offered on our arrival and breakfast was lovely with everything needed being provided for at an excellent overall cost.

Chef outside smoking in chef clothes, tables outside were not cleaned, dust in bedroom, all staff having very regular smoking breaks.

Excellent location by Ilfracombe harbour. Perfect for catching the morning boat to Lundy, which was the purpose of our visit.
Clean linens. Good towels.
All of the furniture in our room was so old, worn out and mismatched, it was like sleeping in a junk shop. Uncomfortable bed with only one pillow each. I did find more pillows in the wardrobe at 3am.
Kettle and 2 cups in the room, with coffee and sugar sachets but no spoons.
Tiles in bathroom need a good scrub.
There is a sign in the bathroom warning you not to smash the shower door. There is no shower door. There is a shower curtain which blocks out the light.
All round lack of care and attention to detail.
It is lovely old building in a wonderful location and it could be so good.
5.0 / 10.0
Good location. Bedding and towels pristine.
No parking other than in a nearby car park costing me an additional £15. Doors to corridors all slammed loudly. Room generally looked shabby. Bathroom clean but taps not affixed properly. Hideous view on to a rooftop opposite with a generator going all night. All of which contributed to a terrible night's sleep.

Visited for a weekend in late June. We were in the sea view room and the view was stunning - watching the boats and tide go in and out of the pier. The staff were polite and accommodating. The room was spacious and a good fan was provided as we went in high heat! The location is great - the best bars and cafes were one minute from the front door and easy travel for the excursions from the pier. If we come again we would stay here.
