Amazing stay hope to return again.

Our room was great. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean with great towles and a great shower. The breakfast was amazing plenty of food and great coffee. The location is right outside of the historic area that is very walkable. There are shope and ice resturants close by.

Great location but limited internal bar area to sit and relax.

The location of the property was fabulous. Close to the tram stop which was easily accessible and very frequent. The property was clean and breakfast was simple but nice.

There was limited bar area to sit and have a drink inside the hotel. There was a small courtyard but it was located on the front street side next to the driveway with limited privacy. When we were there it was raining so there was limited space inside to have a drink. They did have a very small gym and a massive games room for kids, these areas could have been better utilised. The breakfast area was on level 5 so it would have been great if that was open in the evening for afternoon drinks.

Lovely hotel a short walk from the centre of beautiful Basel.

The staff were so lovely when we arrived, we arrived early and were able to check in early, they gave us free fruit and went through a local map with us. They give you free bus/tram tickets. The location is beautiful, we had a balcony that overlooked the impressive Spalantor gate into the city, only a 10-15 minute walk right into the old town and the river. The bed and sofa were comfortable and the room was very clean. We loved Basel much more than we expected to.

Not a problem for us but the bathroom doorway in our room might be a bit narrow for larger or disabled guests.

Hotel Spalentor was a delightful hotel with a great location and wonderful staff.

We had a large, corner room with a view of the Spalen Tor. It was a nice area and convenient for getting around. The hotel provided free bus passes and was well located for using the trams and buses. It was also an easy walk to the central part of the old town where there were many restaurants. We enjoy exploring on foot, and it was a great location for doing that. The room was quite comfortable, although the shower was a challenge to keep the water spray inside the shower! The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. I would stay there again whenever I am in Basel.

The shower head arrangement could have been better. If the water pressure was too much, the shower head spun around in circles. They did fix it, but then you couldn't really adjust the height of the shower head.

Convenient and clean

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent—just a short 2-minute walk to buses and trams, and the railway is also easy to access, making access to Basel town very easy. The rooms are clean and well-equipped with everything you might need. Breakfast exceeded expectations and was above standard.

Excellent location - right outside the Spalentor Gate. Customer service was exceptionally friendly and helpful giving us a lay of the land. We were pleasantly surprised with a small balcony in our room - which made the great space even better. Great size bathroom. Very clean rooms. Comfortable beds and pillows. Conveniently located on multiple bus lines for easy travel to/from train or plane.

I'd be hard pressed to come up with something we didn't like. The lights took me a minute to figure out, and I didn't realize I had to lock the door from the inside, but that didn't detract from our experience.

Perfect.

Wow. Loved everything about this hotel. Location, room size and breakfast were brilliant and went beyond expectations. The hotel is on the main bus and tram lines making it easy to get to from the airport and getting into the town centre and beyond was very straight forward. Room was amazing. Good size and storage space. Bathroom was also a good size and big enough for the three of use to comfortably use.

A memorable stay in a great location.

The breakfast was very good. There was a large variety of breads to custom slice. There was fruit salad, a few flavors of yogurt, watermelon, pineapple, cheeses, meats, and juices. The breakfast room is on the 5th. floor, and we chose a table with a view of the Spalentor, the most impressive of the three city gates that still remain from the city fortifications dating from 1400. The front desk staff were very helpful when we asked about getting to the train station via the bus.

I can unhesitatingly recommend the Hotel Spalentor - it just provides a great and special experience

From the moment we arrived (with 7 bicycles) we were wonderfully looked after: reception staff evidently fully trained, with warm smiles, keys ready and bicycle storage available. The rooms were large and really well-appointed, and the beds were most comfortable. All of our group now have it on their 'book this when visiting Basel' plans. Really, faultless.

Excellent hotel in a location that is a short walk to main areas and the Rhine.

Very nice room and bathroom. We selected the balcony room and were lucky to be assigned a room ending in 05 which gave us a view of Spalentor Tower. The balcony itself is tiny but it was nice to step out watch the world go by. Bed was comfortable. Nicely thought out layout worked well.

Great family friendly hotel

So clean, so welcoming, staff super friendly, great added extras, fruit at reception & fresh water, great bar area & games room with a gym. This spotlessly clean hotel featuring large well appointed rooms is literally situated at the gate of the Basel Old Town. The staff were warm and helpful and the delicious breakfast was an added bonus. We’ll definitely be back!
