Victoria House

Victoria House is a delightful converted Victorian House right in the middle of Church Stretton. It's very well situated for exploring the area and close to everything you need (I chose to be car-free on this visit). The house is charmingly decorated in the Victorian style, with a delightful walled garden, and friendly, attentive staff. I stayed in The Snug (billed as a single room, but with a large comfortable 1922 bed big enough to almost be a double), and was treated to wonderful breakfasts, with scrambled eggs as near perfect as you're going to find anywhere. Being just next to the churchyard, cooing pigeons and church bells were the cherry on top (although if you like neither of these things, you might need the complimentary earplugs provided...)

I can pretty much cut and paste this from every review of every place I stay - more shelving in the bathroom. It's no biggie, I guess, but it would be nice to have a little more room for the things one brings along.

Breakfast was superb and freshly cooked wuith local produce on the menu.Location was rural and tranwiil.Bedroom had nice aspect overlooking the marches hills and church..The guest house was delightful in art noveau style and art decor and authentically Victorian and in keeping with the local area.Personal hospitality at its best.

Beautiful, characterful, cosy house, welcoming staff, perfectly cooked tasty breakfast. Spotlessly clean. Soft sheets. Nice touches such as comfy dressing gown. Pleasant garden area.

The full English breakfast was good. The guest house is located right on the High Street so very convenient. Parking was easy enough in a nearby public car park, as indicated by the owner.

I arrived after 18:00 h, so there was no one there to greet me, which was a pity. The single bedroom called "The Snug" was cramped. The decoration is 1950's with bespoke DIY additions and some period pieces thrown in to complete the retro-boutique ambience. There wasn't room to open a suitcase on the floor and move around without stumbling over everything else. The bathroom was compact and dated. The person cooking breakfast didn't seem too pleased, but the other lady that came along afterwards was more amiable.
