The bucks head

The location was perfect - it met our needs totally. Beth, who was working behind the bar, was extremely helpful when we first arrived and kept our bags safe whilst we went for our hike, since it was early and our room wasn’t ready. Later on, Alex showed us to our room and was so friendly and welcoming. The food was incredible: Richard, the chef, produced really delicious, hearty meals, which were so satisfying after a day hiking on Long Mynd. Our room was perfectly adequate and had everything in it that we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

There was nothing we didn’t like - we just felt our room could have done with a bit of an upgrade. We know Alex and Richard haven’t been there very long and it takes time to change things. We wish them every success with their new venture.

The Bucks Head was a lovely inn with friendly, welcoming staff and lots of room in the beer garden to enjoy the warm weather and solar eclipse. Ideally situated in the centre of the pretty little town. We walked up the Mynd and to Carding Mill Valley, both of which had spectacular views of the Milky Way. We were able to access our room through a separate entrance when the bar was closed, meaning we could come and go during the night to stargaze. It is very close to shops, cafes and restaurants. Our room was decorated to a good standard, with everything we needed, including a tower fan, and was really comfortable. The breakfasts were made well with quality ingredients, and they accommodated request for swapped items, etc. Would definitely return.

There was very little not to like! If pushed, I would say the carpet in our room was stained, but it's a dog friendly place, and as dog owners, we weren't really bothered. You have to order breakfast in advance, which is understandable in a small place, but the toast came ready buttered. I asked for a white coffee with sugar, and it came with the sugar already in it. It's more of a quirk than a problem, but I could see some guests preferring to do these things to their own taste.

Room a bit dark

This is a homely hotel with great staff. Situation in the centre of activities and shopping is excellent. Restaurant offers good choice and is very efficient. Street outside is very quiet at night.
