Lovely comfortable stay

All the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast was great, buffet style and could have what you want. Bed was very comfortable and great shower.

Great location, good value for money compared with other offerings in the area.

Location is brilliant. Loved our room, large with large bathroom. Good choice of food for breakfast.

The bedroom needs bedside lamps rather than the overhead spotlights which are not soft or relaxing. The bathroom smelled sewagey the whole time we were there, which was unpleasant. Shame that the breakfast only offered instant coffee - we had to go to a local cafe for proper coffee.

An excellent value for money venue for a short break.

The Little John Hotel provided excellent value for money for our party of six people with our room being perfectly adequate for the two night duration of our stay. The all you can eat breakfast was deliciously cooked and set us up perfectly for a strenuous hike up to Stanage Edge!!! We also had a great evening in the bar on the hotel’s games night!!!! Ian and his team of hardworking staff looked after us all fabulously throughout our visit. Our party would definitely recommend this hotel as an excellent venue for a short break and we are all in agreement that we would be happy to return in the future.

Comfortable and welcoming

The staff made the hotel. Ian particularly. The level of customer service was excellent. He was constantly available and always with a smile. Breakfast was good and although very busy in the evening so was the food and service.We were served by Emma who again was extremely welcoming and friendly. These two people really were what made our stay enjoyable. Being retired Publicans ourselves we know that a business survives and thrives on the dedication and hard work of its staff. We hope the owners realise they’ve got great management here going above and beyond to give excellent service.

1 night stay

The hotel was busy but staff coped well. Our room was lovely and very clean . WiFi was excellent we ate here in the evening and the food was slow to arrive but freshly cooked and very tasty. The buffet breakfast was continously refreshed with options for guests with special dietary requirements. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. The price was also very good.

We felt sorry for the bar and kitchen staff as it was very busy and they were stretched but they coped well and seemed very happy.

Great little hotel

Everything this was the second time we have stayed here. It's also an ideal location for exploring the peak district.

Good value one night stay.

Room comfortable nice modern bathroom. Small issue with the quilt cover on the bed but that was soon resolved with no fuss. Breakfast OK fair choice of cooked food kept being replenished.

There was no heating in the bathroom. Didn't like the paper cups and wooden spoons in the room on the tea tray.

We stayed for a wedding at the Memorial Hall, so the location was perfect. The breakfast was good, bed comfortable and staff friendly, though we had little contact with them. The rooms were quiet overnight. We had everything we needed for one night. The room was basic, but fine for what we needed. Plenty of biscuits in the room.

The room was basic, it felt spartan and we wouldn’t have wanted to linger there. The window overlooked the car park and nearby houses, so voiles would have helped with privacy as the blinds made it dark. Paper cups and very few options (no decaf or herbal tea, e.g.) made the hospitality tray feel ‘budget’, which I guess it was! These are small things. Overall, good stay.

Comfortable and reasonably priced

Very happy with the cottage that they put me in with my 2 dogs. Breakfast was good though only available 8am to 9am.

I would have eaten in the hotel most evenings if I could have put my tab on my room. Since you have to pay every time, I tried other places to eat and drink every evening. Car park is quite small though I got lucky and found a space most days.

Location is very good, and the staff are really helpful

I booked - and paid for - a family room. But was given a small twin room. Not sure how this happened, but was told that booking.com does the allocation. Would never have booked the room if I’d have known.

Spoilt by evening food

The room was clean and large

The evening food menu was nothing like what was posted on their web page. The food offered was very limited and very expensive (£16.95 for a small piece of meat pie and mashed potatoes). The lunch menu was traditional pub food and priced fairly. Breakfast was very good plenty to choose from.

Where do I start? My booking was cancelled 2 days prior to coming. No emails to say why. I tried to message in numerous occasions about certain things with no response I had to rebook which ended up being £80 cheaper. Husband fancied a beer, no beer on 3 pumps!! Great start. Paper cups in the rooms - ok , the environmental approach, apart from there were plastic toppers for the cups! ONE TOILET ROLL for a 2 night stay. No hand towels Don’t go to bed earlier than midnight as there is bar noise until 12.30 - 1am We were in a room below either a washing machine or boiler as it kept making loud spinning noises. 1am, 5.30am and 6.30am - hence a lack of sleep! I asked the room next door if they heard it, which they had! Then as one lady said, disaster struck at breakfast No vegi sausages or anything to cater for vegetarians. What you see is what you get. A lady asked for mushrooms and fried eggs. I asked if I could have scrambled eggs instead. I had to give that to my dogs. It was grey! No bread for toast until asked. No butter portions OR MILK!! No one was checking supplies or just avoiding guests as they didn’t want to face them. No coffee as they didn’t know how to use/ refill the coffee machine. My husband intervened. We have stayed here many times and this was the worst stay we have ever been anywhere. It isn’t managed properly. There is a high turnover of staff apparently. The staff, tried to be so friendly and accommodating. It’s not their fault. Apart from the hotel guests, hardly locals in. That speaks volumes

Not much but some hopefully helpful feedback - Cottage had only 1 teaspoon! Kitchen roll would have been useful. Dislike fragranced toilet tissue. Could have done with an extension lead to reach bedside table.

A great location for hiking and exploring Peak District. Hotel itself is very clean and the food is really good. Staff was very friendly.Hotel is not located on the main street so it don't feel as busy it's actually pretty quiet. Highly recomended.

Newly fitted bathroom was lovely, bed very comfortable, a warm welcome on arrival. Good to get a parking space.

Very poor choice of vegetarian meals from the evening menu. It would be nice to offer a slightly longer time period for breakfast,we just missed out on being able to sample the filter coffee!
