We booked this Machiya due to its central location and we were not disappointed. It is within easy walking distance to many temples and the central shopping area including Nishiki market, Higashiyama and Gion district. The whole area is made up of small traditional houses and is a world away from the high rises of Tokyo. This was by far my favourite location during our stay in Japan.
The rooms were a little on the small side but they were what we expected. I would say the Machiya was on the cosy side. Certainly large enough for a group of 4 but would probably be tight for a group of 6. We used the washer/dryer which was a godsend. However there were no English instructions and we never did figure out how to put the dryer on. Intructions in English would be useful

The location- tucked away from the “city” but still close to things to do and close to a coffee shop.
Should have let people know it is easy to rent bikes so you don’t have to take a taxi or bus everywhere nearby.

The property was lovely and all the artifacts in the home were lovely. Loved staying in a traditional Machiya. Property was spotless and all the instructions provided were clear and concise. Located close to the main streets and very easy to get to the shopping districts via Uber or public transportation.
