The property was ok. It doesn't live up to the description in the blurb. The owner seems like a good sort, and is helpful. His "blue book" was entertaining and informative. He responds quickly and was very gracious in allowing us to enter the property an hour earlier than the check in time as we had been riding from the Kyle of Localsh in pretty miserable weather.
Sornoway isnt the most exciting of towns but is a good base for exploring the island. To be honest all we wanted was a safe place to park the bike, a roof over our heads and somewhere to store our stuff. We spent most of the time out and about.
If this property was priced at £200 less I probably would have been pleased but the price is not commensurate with or a true representation of the accomodation on offer.
My main problem with the property is the price. Admittedly this was not my first choice. My original booking was an alternative property on the island which was fitted out to a much higher standard, in much better shape, for £200 less. This property is extremely expensive for what it is so scores very low on value for money especially when one considers that for the same price I could have rented a three bedroom house in Stornoway for an entire month through a local estate agent.
I very much hope that the "staycation" bubble bursts very soon because holiday makers in the UK are getting a very poor deal. To give the reader an idea, in Spain it is possible to book return flights and a two week stay in a modern five bedroom villa with a private pool. For £770 for five days I would have expected a much higher standard of decor and cleanliness.
There is nothing specifically wrong with this property. It is a basic two bedroom bungalow with a kitchen, bathroom and living room. The kitchen is equipped with what you'd expect, nothing to write home about.
The garden is not useable. It is an unmanaged patch of grass really with no facilities for enjoying the exterior space. The back garden is overlooked by the neighbours so there is no privacy and the view is of an old banger of a car and an old caravan.
Decor is very dated and tired and it really could do with a coat of paint. Whilst I dont care at all for flouncy TV style makeovers I do think for the price it should be presented to a higher standard.
I normally find things to do on holiday other than watching the telly but the property guide states that there is SKY TV on offer which, on a cold rainy evening may have been useful. The SKY box was not connected to the television and the remote control does not work. The battery compartment is held together with old tape so its not even possible to replace old batteries.

Location and cleanliness.
The TV was fine - it worked as it should - but it was strangely slow to respond to the remote control. Scrolling through the TV listing was frustratingly slow. But that's a small gripe.

Everything you need, very clean and everything in good order.
Midges, a bit outside the owner's control though! Take Jungle Formula and you'll be fine. Just don't think you can spend much time in the garden.

Location was brilliant.
The house needs a lot more love. Not very clean, old furnishings, old TV (Android TV's are cheap now!), uncomfy bed, Wifi was next to useless ( I used my own data instead that was quicker) and garden wasn't welcoming.
