Stayed 10 days to teach a course at the State University & to do some site visits. The hotel was great - rooms small but comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic (my daughter is vegetarian and enjoyed it too). Nice coffee. A couple of minutes away you find a health shop with amazing Açai smoothies to sit in, supermarkets, bars, cafes, gyms. The beach and Marina (for boat tours) and old city are in walking distance. It was quiet at night. Lapa is a bit poorer than other parts in Rio (hence the cheaper price) but if you have your wits about you, it didn’t feel less safe than anywhere else we visited. Great bus connections to south or north. The staff are always keen to help and friendly.

We have chosen this hotel to be close to Sambodromo (due to Rio Carnival). Apart from this the location wasn’t very nice, however it wasn’t unsafe as there were plenty of police on the streets. It is clean. Beds are comfortable. Tasty fruits for breakfast and helpful staff. Good for one night.
Very long check-in, as receptionists are nice but not the fastest ones and seems not to care about waiting people… Breakfast (apart from fruits) is not tasty - very basic, meaty and fried. Even the coffee wasn’t very good. Hotel is old - renovation would be helpful.
