Stone Rooms

We had a very unusual stay in a cave hotel! It was a truly amazing experience—dark and quiet, set in the underground part of the church. The temperature inside was comfortable even though it was scorching outside. The shower and plumbing worked well. There was also a small museum there.

The only thing guests should keep in mind is that it is a cave, so it can be humid

Room is totally unique, and definitely worth the experience. How often do you get to stay in such a place? Conversion to bedroom & private bathroom very well done. Great shower, almost big enough for 2. Comfortable bed. And there is the bonus of an underground cave to explore at the property. Do not miss this. Very easy to walk around Matera & see all the sights, & find good restaurants close. A very unique place overall. Owner very helpful and pleasant, & even stored bags for us last day so we could explore Matera some more. Lovely little park very close to sit and reflect.

Great location, very friendly owner, easy access.

I booked “double deluxe or twin room” and got one of the small rooms, and was a little surprised at the size. Looking back at the listing, of all the images of the rooms there’s only two of the room I stayed in. So I was expecting one of the bigger rooms from the pictures. But regardless it was a very comfortable stay and unique place.

Good location, near the city centre.

We booked this stay for three people, but one person had to sleep on the couch. It was very uncomfortable—the middle sinks down, and you end up sleeping curled up like a shrimp. Another issue was the bathroom, which looked awful. There were even bugs. Also, there was no possibility of leaving our backpacks for a few hours after check-out, which was quite inconvenient.
