I have no comments for obvious improvements. Slightly dated but it was part of the charm. Any attempts to improve or modernise would in my opinion detract from the spirit of the Ship

If you would have me again I'd be glad.

First of all - I checked in there for the second time. During a power cut. I would have missed it if it wasn't for me remembering where the Ship Inn was approximately. Long story short - it was one of the most memorable experiences of my traveling career. Everyone - staff, guests, locals - was trying to make the best out of the situation. Breakfast was quick and plenty, even though I ordered the small Scottish breakfast. The restaurant offers a decent range of food in the no-nonsense department. If you are looking for [...] star cuisine you might have chosen the wrong place. You get fed there at very reasonable prices. The bar is well stocked with a variety of beers and spirits. The location is hard to beat with the Ship Inn located directly at the harbour. The footpath to Dunottar Castle starts some 100 meters right to the hotel facing the harbour. Be prepared for a steep ascend which will reward you with stunning views in all directions.

I'd like to recommend some things to enhance the experience, unfortunately I can't find anything. Haute cuisine? Don't need it. Rainforest shower? Don't need it. You get everything you need for a stay in this beautiful surroundings at a very reasonable price - at least in my case. A room with harbour view would have been the cherry on the cake - but I didn't ask for it and I had plenty of time to view the harbour outside the Ship Inn.

Excellent overnight stop.

Hotel was excellent. Very clean and fresh room/bathroom. Food and atmosphere at night was excellent followed by a lovely breakfast all served by polite friendly staff. We will stay again when back next year.

Perfect stay for a trip to Dunnottar Castle.

The best room in town! Overlooks the harbor and is well protected from the winds. Close to Dunnottar Castle. Walking distance from all we needed. Super helpful staff!

Fantastic!

Absolutely charming. Location is fantastic. My bedroom and room number nine was stellar with windows that open up over the bay. The breakfast was delicious. Had dinner at the restaurant and it was very good. The walk along the coast to the castle was fabulous. I only wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.

I liked the proximity to the harbour and to the city and to the path to walk to dunnottar Castle. I love the deco and the view from my window room.

I didn’t like the shower, it was either boiling water or freezing water. And tho it didn’t bother me all that much the noises from outside (pub, street) and the noises from inside (outside the door of my room).

Room was quiet, light and airy. Bed clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great with plenty choice. Service was first class and staff were friendly and eager to please.

Bathroom had shower over the bath with no grab rails or shower mats. Getting in and out for older people was a challenge and at the worst could have been dangerous. Great care was required.

My husband is six foot tall and he bumped his head coming down the stairs. It would be good if the roof on the way down to the first floor had fluorescent tape warning of this danger.

Lovely seaside trip to discover the area

The location on the harbour is perfect. The room was very nice with a great view of the harbour (room 3). It was extremely clean. The bed was super comfortable too.

Decent hotel, noisy, but don’t let it put you off visiting

The area is brilliant well worth the visit. Excellent breakfast, evening meal not quite as good. Hotel location second to none, the doors to the rooms are very noisy to close & open. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Happy with the accommodation overall but not worth the price we paid unfortunately.

The doors to the bedroom were very noisy and disturbed other guests. Food in restaurant at night not as good as they claimed but breakfast very good.

Decent stay, lovely location and food

Location was great, lovely views of harbour. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Food was good....good selection of drinks at bar.

Restaurant lacked some atmosphere, no music playing. Room very warm, unable to keep window open as bar was directly downstairs and open until 1am, however, the noise was not too bothersome. Bed wasn't comfortable for us, just our preference though.

Lovely stay and great location

Our room overlooked the harbour and the view was beautiful. The room was nice, bed was comfortable and the facilities were excellent. Breakfast was also excellent - lots of choice and the full scottish breakfast was lovely but probably too much to eat!

Relax in a picturesque harbour setting.

Good location and friendly helpful staff. Restaurant food excellent and superior to its rival restaurant, The Tollbooth and better value for money. Also, as we decided to leave very early one morning they gave us free food and drink for the journey.

The only slight downside is it is virtually impossible to park outside the hotel because of the high numbers of visitors, but there is lots of other free parking nearby.

Too short a stay to enjoy all there was to offer.

The hotel/restaurant combination worked well for us since we were only staying one night, and didn’t have any familiarity with the area. Dinner and following morning meals were just what we needed. Well done.
