Friendly staff, good value
I have stayed at the Galaxie before and really liked the superior room we had. This time I choose a cheaper room but really disliked the deco. There are lots of artefacts in the room such as dried flowers and ugly paintings. I like antique furniture but the atmosphere felt more like a cheap bric a brac. It is a shame because the room was well sized and the bathroom nice. It would look so much better without all that junk.

Great interiors. On site parking.
Compact rooms.

Quirky decor. Great location.
Had to negotiate deep puddle in the car park to get to my car!
Uncomfortable seam down middle of my double bed (single occupancy)

The room was absolutely lovely and had more than I expected.
The bathroom was great and extra, and the whole room was clean and organised.
The ceiling fan doesn’t work or there aren’t instructions so the room got a bit stuffy in the night

Breakfast was really good, plenty of choice. The hot food could have been a bit hotter but difficult I suppose. The staff were very pleasant
I loved the quirkiness of the place, lots of plants, ornaments, old furniture.
Perhaps better insulation between rooms, could hear people next door talking and room doors closing quite loudly whereas the traffic outside was not a problem at all 😄

Nice interior and good breakfast.
Small room and very dusty under the bed. Don think they have hoovered there for months. We only had one hand towel between two and no hooks to hang clothes on in the bathroom. No cupboard for clothes in the bedroom- just a coat rack. Only very basic facilities.

Unlike other hotels I have stayed at in Oxford, the heating was good. Nice to have a kettle and a supply of tea bags and milk.

The Galaxie is a lovely, quirky little spot in Summertown, near shops, a few pubs and places to eat. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great with lots of choice (they even had shakshuka), and the decor is colourful and fun. There are also nice little touches, such as a cabinet with bowls of sweets you can help yourself to. (Make sure you open the cabinet though... The glass is so clean that my friend didn't even know it was there, and accidently punched the glass while going to get some sweets.)
Better than the opposite I suppose, but the rooms were really hot! I had to keep my window pretty wide open so I didn't turn into a prune. But certainly better than being cold.

Quirky decoration and colours which gave it a unique ‘curated’ feel. Lovely comfy bed with nice quality bedding in a panelled room. Pretty good water pressure in the shower. The breakfast staff were very helpful and friendly.
I felt that £10 for parking and £12.50 for breakfast was pretty steep.

great décor. very helpful staff. decent food, overall excellent value for money. would definitely recommend.
£10 charge for parking my car in the carpark. Nobody likes "hidden extras". Location was a little further out than is ideal (25-30 minute walk). No particular bother for me and my friend but worth noting for those less mobile.

I picked this hotel because of the location and its quirkiness. The room was spacious and had everything you need except for coat hooks. The bed was comfortable and the staff was helpful.
To be honest it’s a bit beyond quirky especially the breakfast room and garden. So cluttered a hoarders dream! And cluttered spaces are really hard to dust and keep clean with was evident.
The room 105 was downstairs next to the front door and it was so noisy. With the road and the front door opening and closing a hundred times I hardly slept. Some of the decorations and furnishings are tired looking and even broken. And the fan in the bathroom was giving me final destination vibes.

Spacious and well designed room. Heater works well. It’s not in the city centre but you can connect via bus station that is in front of the hotel. Also there is a market nearby
A bit expensive considering hotel is not in the centre and breakfast not included

The staff were friendly, helpful, and quick. The room was super cute. The bed was comfortable. We love the decor and style of The Galaxie. The pick'n'mix on the second floor was a fun surprise!
Parking is not free, but Oxford is famously tough for parking, so that's OK really!

The location, which was very convenient for my visit to family members who live in Summertown..The breakfast was excellent .The staff were welcoming and helpful. The decor was quirky. The other guests were also friendly.
Not a huge problem, but guests in adjacent rooms were occasionally quite noisy, but when I got used to that, it didn't bother me.

Excellent decoration, great location. Parking an extra bonus at the back of the hotel for a reasonable price
Breakfast was great for the price. Run out of food unfortunately at the end of the morning

Small car park was full. Decor in room needed freshening up.

Very quirky, liked the decor and the atmosphere, good location. Room spacious and clean, great shower.
Parking is on a first come first serve basis, unfortunately we couldn’t get parked so had to park down the road in the leisure centre - it wasn’t too far but ideally would have liked to have parked on site.

Really characterful and unique hotel. Location is also perfect for exploring Oxford.
The bathroom didn’t have a full door (it was glass and covered half the length) and as it’s an old building there is some noise from corridors but it didn’t disturb us that much.

The staff was really helpful with giving the instruction of getting into the city centre of Oxford. Not only providing the map to us, but also sharing the tourist spots as well as the transportation information to us.
It is a stylish house with lift; however, you might still need to carry a few stairs for getting into your room after the lifts.

The Galaxie has a great look and feel to it - full of character. The staff are friendly and the rooms very comfortable while the large conservatory makes a lovely setting for breakfast.
My room, while very comfortable and well decorated had nowhere to hang clothes or even a coat hook. There was a shortage of hot water.

An intesting and individual style hotel in the reception and bar areas. Room large and recently refurbished. All clean and very comfortable.
Entrance to the car park is very narrow

This inconspicuous hotel is on the Banbury Road that leads straight into Oxford City Centre. It is also on the bus main route (just around the corner is the former home of J. R. R. Tolkien).
The hotel is in a quiet part of Oxford and ideal for solo travellers looking for some peace after a day of walking.
The walls are quite thin and you can hear other guests in the hotel.

Staff, excellent breakfast, size of room, comfy beds, quiet at night.
It was very hot in the room.

Very comfortable bed and quiet room
Room 204. The blinds let some light in at night, the bedside lamps had dust on, the photos look very modern and fresh however the actual room was somewhat not kept up to scratch - walls very scratched in places, carpets in hallway filthy and grumpy man on check-in. Also parking was extremely tight.
3.0 / 10.0
The size of the bed and how comfortable it was. Easy to get into the centre. Parking was good but £10 is pricey.
Lights and plug switches didn’t always work. It’s a very noisy building so up through the night. Our bin wasn’t cleaned/emptied and there was lots of blood in there. No proper door on the bathroom so zero privacy. Lots of light being let in from the hallway; had to use coat to block the light and noise.

Very comfortable room with en-suite bathroom, and good tv service, plus pleasant staff. Great for the price! There are hooks rather than cupboard for hanging clothes, and no safe, but I wouldn’t expect them for the price
No complaints

Decor, ambiance, super helpful staff, comfortable room, nearby restaurants and shops.
Little far from city center - about a 30 minute walk or £5 for an all day bus pass. But I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great location, lovely building, a bit quirky.
The rooms were a bit snug.
6.0 / 10.0
Location is convenient
Very tired and scuffed. Poor security at night with the front door left open to the street. Staff openly discussing day to day operations in front of the of the guests. Rooms not made fully each day. No real sense of hospitality.
