It was very well presented and the bed was comfortable and it was quiet. The staff was lovely.

Well located, traditional railway hotel with rather grand public spaces and well-priced.

Parking advertised on Booking.com at £10 per 24 hours but actually £20.25 - reception staff disinterested in the inaccuracy. The buffet breakfast was luke warm - nice bacon but soggy hash browns and fiercely strong fikyer coffee.

Great hotel for an excellent city

It's a very grand hotel with excellent facilities and decor. All the team were very attentive and friendly. Ideal location if needing to be close to the station as well as the Quayside and city centre. Right next to a Metro station also adds to the location's convenience.

Underwhelming and outdated hotel.

Very outdated, I paid almost 200 pounds for a room which had no heating in. It was a very small bathroom which the toilet was right next to the door giving hardly any room. It was a big let down.

The room was lovely and most of the staff were nice,

The room was lovely but the bed was horrendous hardly got any sleep The breakfast was in general cold including the water for the tea. And the standard of cocktails have dropped a lot since our last visit. I spent over 200 pounds with my wife on them, however a lot of them ever not made properly. Not sure we will return even though the staff with the exception of the odd one were lovely, the standards aren't the same level they used to be though, which is disappointing, so we aren't sure we may return . But the bed was appalling a d needs replacing

Great stay, great location, great food and would stay again.

Great location, parking in site limited but very useful. Early check in on arrival which was really helpful. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was fantastic.

Having booked a family room, we found what we consider as experienced travellers, to actually be a twin room, with two 3/4 beds, family room you would expect two doubles or double and a single.

Good location, reasonably priced and comfortable.

Very small room which felt cluttered and cramped. The advertised bar opening times were wrong and closing before midnight on a Saturday was strange.

Very convenient and comfortable stay for the Great North Run weekend !

The location was excellent and the room was better and larger than expected for a city centre hotel. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was clean and modern. The shower was good with an adequate supply of hot water considering the hotel was so full.

No room climate control, so opening the windows meant a very noisy Saturday night over the Great North Run weekend ! To be expected and to be fair, there was a fan available in the room.

Central convenient hotel but the room amenities are disappointing

The hotel itself is historic and lovely. Centrally located. The general decor is appealing. Close to everything in the centre.

For a hotel of that standard, there were small irritating things that were surprising and could be easily be solved. The room was extremely hot, and I mean in the 30oC. The mattress was completely shot with the springs actually making noise. The pillows were flat and useless. In the end you're paying for the location but the room standard does not live up to the overall image of the hotel.

Despite the window being open, the room was warm and stuffy. There was a fan in the wardrobe which I checked before heading out for the day/evening which didn't work. I went to reception and they sent a new one up quickly which did work. The tap and sink is difficult to use without water ending up all over the surface.

Worst experience of my life

Nothing, the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.

Extremely over heated rooms and bathroom. It was appalling, the standards of this hotel need to be addressed, this is not a 4 star hotel, at best a 2. The staff were incredibly unhelpful and essentially couldn’t care that the rooms are impossible to sleep in.

It was literally a 10 second walk from the train station . Was easy to find and the staff were nice at the reception .

There was no air con as advertised . When asked at reception they said they had no air con but they offered us a fan . Still wasn’t good enough for the room as the bathroom mirror was hot which made the whole bathroom boiling and uncomfortable when you had to use it . The main room was absolutely roasting even when the window was open and the fan was on . Made for the worst nights sleep possible as with the hotel being on a Main Street and having to keep the window open slightly , it was loud at night and could get hardly get to sleep.
