Lovely, warm and cosy hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bar, very good restaurant. Comfy bed and warm room, which given it was early January was important!
The location is delightful, good views over the Esk estuary and in the village of Ravenglass, the station 10 mins walk (we travelled by train) away. The Ravenglass and Eskdale heritage railway also gas its home here. Muncaster castle not far away as well as several other historic or outdoor sites.

Location is brilliant
Heating in the rooms was too hot. We had to sleep with all the windows open which isn’t very efficient

Food was fantastic but could have done with a couple more options. All was prepared to a very high standard. The small team of staff are very welcoming and were very attentive.
Just small diy details in the room. Overall very neat and tidy and the bed and shower were excellent

It was the perfect location for what we wanted, very clean friendly and comfortable. The evening meal was very nice and plentiful and also a varied menu. Breakfast was excellent very tasty. The bar area was very comfortable and reasonably priced. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

We had such a good sleep we slept in for breakfast and apologised for not attending. The three ladies, who were by this time having their break, insisted on making us breakfast. All the staff throughout our stay were exeptional, the food (evening meal and breakfast) was good.
The bedroom was a little tired and in need of an upgrade however both the bedroom and bathroom were a good size, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bar and dining area were good and all in all the hotel was well worth the pice we paid.

Friendly staff, extremely helpful. Great location. Restaurant lovely and clean, a great atmosphere and good, plentiful servings of food. Restaurant staff were brilliant and the prices extremely reasonable. Beds and pillows in the hotel were very comfortable.
Carpets throughout the hotel looked grubby. Rooms could do with an update, dial on the shower kept falling off.

The hotel is in a fantastic location with a lot of local walks possible and is ideal for the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway. The bedroom was large and spacious with all amenities for a very comfortable stay. The dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Hotel was in a lovely location
Staff at breakfast were so helpful, lady co ordinating the breakfast was lovely, I could see she was so busy but she was so polite and got our table ready for us with little fuss.
No real signage for the car park at rear, went down wrong turning which we needed to reverse out of. Just needed a bigger sign on corner of road to guide you.

The food, Dinner; the pie crust was uncutable, breakfast; the milk was 'off' No cost reduction.

Excellent location
Challenges with large number of guests leading to slower service on the night than was usual

The location is lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful, lovely views from the room we had, the food was exceptional both for the evening meal and breakfast, with a good range of choices. Had hot chocolate in with the coffee/tea choices in the room which so many hotels don’t, which annoys me as I don’t drink tea or coffee. Lovely and peaceful - no constant traffic noise or loud guests staying.
The room overnight was so hot and we couldn’t open the windows as they had been painted shut, curtains were fraying (backing coming off), sockets loose in the wall and tiles falling off in the bathroom.

My 6'2" husband bumped his head on over head door frames in our room several times - very painful! Need padding on frames!! (Health and Safety)!

There is nothing to dislike about the Pennington! From the location, to the rooms, the ambience and the staff, everything was amazing.
Nothing was too much trouble. But the food ...oh my goodness, if you have the chance to eat in the restaurant then you're in for a 1st class treat. Give it a try and I promise you won't regret it !!
The fact that we weren't staying longer.

Small boutique hotel in quaint small village with bags of charm
TV did not work in the room, room was too hot, no air conditioning or fan available. Shower doo was restrictive and would not have been accessible for a larger person. Food okay.

The bedroom needs updating. The ensuite was good but the bedroom needs work. Paint needs updating and the window refurbishing and cleaning.

Great location. Friendly staff. Great menu choice and food. Clean room. Great sea views.
Room needed a bit of TLC. No picture on wall and screw holes needed filling. Windows need replacing or painting. Small points but it’s the small details that make the difference.

The food was fabulous, especially the freshly cooked Cumbrian breakfast - not for the faint hearted!! The staff were so friendly and full of useful information. Although we didn't use room service the fact they had it in such a small village was refreshing and the online directory was extremely helpful - my favourite line - we deliver ice to your room (I am easily pleased). We didn't use it though - went down ourself:)
There wasn't anything that could have been bettered in our opinion.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The family room was large, clean and very comfortable and the hotel had a nice location on the estuary. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Although the food was tasty, the food service in the restaurant was incredibly slow. We waited an hour for our dinner and almost as long for our breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and drinks came quickly, so the problem is obviously in the kitchen.

Location was excellent. The staff were lovely. Our room was spacious and well equipped.
The toilet was very difficult to flush.
The lights needed replacing - they are the old fashioned energy savers which take ages to btighten and are unsuitable for reading.

Very comfortable and clean room ,with everything you need for a nights stay.
The evening meal was excellent and we would highly recommend .
The room for the price was a little tried with peeling paint in a couple of areas. The breakfast was disappointing for one of us .Especially after having a lovely evening meal. The scrambled egg was cold and like rubber and uneatable. Unfortunately, no one came to ask if everything was okay .

An exceptional small hotel in a quaint old seashore villages, sympathetically modernised to retain the feeling of age while giving modern comforts. The staff were, without exception, helpful and friendly. The food was very good. The location, in a quaint old estuary village is beautiful an is convenient for a number of attractions such as the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and Muncaster Castle. A great experience.
Because of the nature of the building, perhaps not the best choice for a person with mobility issues.
