Hotel Barsey by Warwick

I stayed for two nights only. I chose it because it was close to the university. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

This hotel has really nice rooms with gorgeous views of Brussels. The rooms are clean, staff is friendly at the breakfast was delicious (though a bit expensive). Overall, I recommend this place!

Our stay at Hotel Barsey by Warwick was a mixed experience. We initially planned to stay for three nights but ended up transferring to Warwick Grand Place after the first night — a decision we’re glad we made. Check-in at Barsey went smoothly, but we soon discovered the air conditioning wasn’t working. Unfortunately, this was never mentioned at check-in. We only saw a notice in the elevator, which we found out later had been up for a few days. The AC had already been under maintenance before our arrival, and repairs were not expected until the following week — meaning no AC for our entire stay. It would have been much better if the hotel had informed us earlier and offered compensation proactively, rather than after we discovered the issue ourselves. That first night, after taking a shower and feeling extremely hot and uncomfortable, we contacted the front desk around midnight. They offered us a fan and said compensation might be arranged if we chose to stay the remaining two nights. The next morning, the manager offered free breakfast, but we felt that a partial refund was more appropriate. Eventually, the hotel arranged for us to transfer to Warwick Grand Place and covered the taxi cost — a gesture we appreciated, even though it came late in the process. Warwick Grand Place was impressive and made up for the discomfort of our first night. Still, we believe Hotel Barsey should have notified us about the lack of a key amenity like air conditioning as soon as it became apparent, not after we had already checked in. To make matters worse, Agoda’s customer service was unhelpful. When we contacted them, they claimed the hotel didn’t offer AC in rooms and told us to “Ctrl+F” search the listing ourselves instead of pointing us to any specific section. When we checked the listing again, it clearly stated that the rooms have AC, while the confirmation email only mentioned AC in public areas. Agoda insisted we rely solely on the confirmation email, ignoring the listing that led us to book the hotel in the first place. They provided no useful support or coordination with the hotel. Hotel Barsey’s location is decent, though not close to the city center. We understand that technical problems can happen, but how they are handled makes all the difference. Better communication and customer care — such as advance notice, compensation options, or arranging an alternative hotel without prompting — would have significantly improved our experience. Overall, the hotel offers good value for the price, but service and transparency — from both the hotel and Agoda — need serious improvement.
