A once-iconic hotel in a wonderful location, but sadly past its prime.

Pleasant location in the heart of Scheveningen.

The Kurhaus sadly seems to have left its glory days behind. The grandeur of the past has given way to a dated hotel in visible need of maintenance. The rooms feel neglected; the walls show signs of wear, and the paintwork hasn’t been refreshed in quite some time. Even the cleaning could use more attention. To our surprise, an Indonesian street food market was organized in the monumental Kurzaal – a sympathetic idea in theory, but the execution was quite chaotic. The smell of fried dishes spread throughout the entire hotel, taking away from the refined atmosphere one would expect from a five-star establishment. All in all, the Kurhaus no longer offers the experience or prestige that once defined its name. It feels as if the place is slowly fading rather than being renewed.

Underwhelming, almost no one seemed happy being present.

Location, and architecture of the building, the room and bed

Lines for checkin, breakfast was just to massive and expensive vs service and choice. The adult swim hours on Sunday, reason: quietness, i am happy i boldly went swimming with my daughter who was enjoying swimming being the quietest in the pool.

Seaside luxury

We lucked out and got a beautiful view even though we didn’t pay for an ocean-facing view. There was a bath with a built in shower - the design of the bath was really nicely thought out so it was nice to read in and the shower was a lovely rainfall shower. The location was excellent, right on the beach with a tram stop right outside. Staff was really helpful and friendly.

The room was a little small for the price but honestly we didn’t intend to spend a lot of time in the room and it was still very worthwhile for the excellent location.

Wellness hotel by the sea with beautiful sundown

We went for three days to kurhaus scheveningen. It was an amazing experience. The staff was kind. The spa and swimming pool was relaxing. Breakfast was super. Only 100 m from the pier. The weather was very nice. Our room was zeezicht and we saw the best sundown ever!

The matrasses were too soft. In the swimming pool there were a lot of children jumping and diving. Even after the family swimming hours children were screaming and jumping together.

Not a 5 star hotel

it was a good location right at the pier. Yet lots of construction and drunken tourists

This hotel is far from being worthy of a 5-star. I have experienced many hotels around the globe, and this one hotel was not only falling apart structurally inside the rooms, their service was deplorable. The room itself had paint peeling on the walls, chipped mirrors, and non working coffee machine. The phone in the room was also broken which meant that you could not reach front desk or room service if needed. One of the blinds didn’t close well either so light can in early in the morning. The pool was dirty, and the restaurant service took 45minutes to bring out our order despite the restaurant being nearly empty. When any of this was reported to staff, their response was that they did not have the right person to help look at the issue, or said they would look into it and get back to us. Yet no one ever did despite numerous complaints of both phone and coffee machine. When this disappointment of our stay was expressed at check out, one staff promised to follow up. Yet again. No one ever reached out again. This hotel should be ranked 3-stars. As it does have 3-star level rooms and amenities. The service is below 1-star, and the location is what can save the place. Would not recommend staying here if you enjoy good quality and clean accommodations and 5-star service.

The location of the property was the only positive from my perspective, & this was largely because the conference I was attending took place at this very location..

The property is old and the staff ill equipped to make a positive difference to customer experience. Additionally took 25 minutes whereby I was given the wrong room. No empathy from staff members at all, even the door man walked of mumbling to himself whilst trying to take care of another guest. The sphere was unlike non other I have experienced in an establishment such as this.. The only explanation I was offered was that the hotel was almost at max capacity due to the pending conference… Unacceptable if you ask me..

The area of the hotel is crazy noisy, dirty and concreted. If you search for a peaceful vacation don’t go there unless it’s off-season. Of course that’s not the hotels fault but it made our stay unenjoyable. Also be aware that the AC is “working but not cooling” (that’s what the staff explained to us…). Open windows during nighttime is no option since it’s too loud. Dogs are welcome there and staff is very cute with them but DONT BRING YOUR DOG. Not because of the hotel but because of the crowds, noise and lack of green areas.

Nice location, but the name "Grand Hotel" deserved only for the building appearance and the price.

The NYE party, location, rooms are all great. Dinner food in the restaurant was also very good, personel in the restaurant was nice.

Staff in general seem detached from the role they play in the hospitality business. Partier was going twice trough the corridor, but didn't mind noticing and picking up the beer bottle, which was left on the floor next to the corridor wall. I accidently kicked it while using baggage trolley and then I recalled that this bottle was there from last night already. Room keys didn't open the room upon return in the hotel in the night. Receptionist in the night shift could only open the room, but couldn't fix the keys (no authorisation). Next morning after the breakfast, I wanted to sort out the keys again at the reception (we have had LCO). One of the receptionists coldly sent me in the que to his colleague, because he said he can’t deal with card-key settings. The other receptionist was busy with people checking out in my first impression, but I‘ve learnt that people in the que (around 8 people waiting that particular one receptionist) had the same problem with their keys. All in all the impression is that staff doesn’t care much for hospitality and the “cold” receptionist seemed even proud to hand me his business card with hotel contact details to write an complaint. If you need the name of the receptionist, I will be happy to find out next time when I’m in The Hague.

More of a 3 star hotel, than a 5 star

Good location

This is everything but a 5 star hotel. We stayed there for a night, and we had 2 connecting rooms. The bedding in one of the rooms was dirty so we had to request a change of sheets, the bins in both of the bathrooms were not emptied out from the previous guests. The coffee machine in one of the rooms was not working at all. While the staff was nice and trying, the service was definitely not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. We had dinner at their Waves restaurant, we ordered a bottle of water 3 times before it got served half an hour later. The food is average, nothing special. We also had a high tea afternoon the next day, which was ok-ish. You get served tea from tea bags, the sandwiches and sweets were average (scones - big disappointment). The spa center is quite small for such a massive hotel. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. I wouldn't recommend it, there are much nicer and cozier places in The Hague
