Dingle Peninsula: Beautiful house 'An Máimín' Ballyferriter, Dingle

We spent a really lovely week at Micheal’s house in this beautiful part of the world. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. The downstairs bedroom is ideal for anyone with mobility difficulties. There’s a lovely private little garden with great views. The Slea Head drive was breathtaking in the fine weather. Sharon is a wonderfully warm and kind host. I highly recommend this property.

This place was absolute perfection! We had NO clue where we were going, and didn't know much about the best places to stay in Ireland but we found this place online only a few weeks before we went, and it turned out to be the most amazing thing we did! First of all, the place was darling! And Sharon, who manages it, was absolutely adorable! We had so much fun getting to know her and she was so helpful immediately if we ever needed anything. She gave us information of places to go and we found that to be so helpful to us! The Slea Head drive is so amazing and Sharon was a wealth of information of where to go. We'd go again in a heartbeat! As far as the house goes, it was so comfortable and enjoyable. The beds are incredible, and that was a huge thing. The kitchen is well stocked. They have a fireplace, which was very helpful as a few days were a bit chilly. There isn't much in the way of TV channels but that was ok. They do have a cute little "reading" room that does have a TV that can play DVD's only but there weren't many videos available. But that was no biggie because there's so much more to do that you hardly have time to sit and watch a movie anyway! The place is a bit out there on the tip of the Dingle Peninsula but the longer we were there, the more we loved being off the beaten path. I would recommend this place over and over again! You won't go wrong staying there.

We were very satisfied with the house. There was enough space for us and our four children, and the rooms were comfortably furnished. The contact person on site was very friendly and helpful and quick to respond when we had questions. The house is wonderful as a starting point for hikes and excursions in the area. We would holiday in the house again at any time.

Wow!! We have to repeat--Wow! We absolutely loved "our home" at An Maimin in Ballyferriter. Everything from booking to the too-quick end of our stay was perfect. Micheal and Sharon were terrific hosts throughout. The house is situated in beautiful, laid-back Ballyferriter, only a couple of minutes walk to a small shop with basic essentials and the local pubs, all of which are welcoming and serve up good drinks and food. It is also a pleasant walk away from one of the stunning local beaches and a very short drive to any of the other beautiful beaches and historical, scenic attractions along Slea Head Drive. Also within a short drive are loads of walking/hiking trails and hill and cliff walks that range in difficulty from easy to more strenuous (Mount Brandon--well worth the effort). The views from the house are fantastic as are the views in almost any direction from almost any location in the area. Just stunning! The drive to Dingle town is easy and under 15 minutes so it was easy to take in traditional music, enjoy a meal, shop for local art and crafts or stock up on groceries. The house is immaculately maintained and clean. It is supplied with everything you need to relax, cook at home, enjoy a pint or cocktail in the lovely outdoor sitting area or snuggle up with a book in front of a peat fire in the living area. The beds are very comfortable, it is a peaceful setting and made for a perfect week of settling in and recharging after a long 2+ year hiatus from travel due to the pandemic. We felt so at home immediately. Now, the best part: the hosts. Micheal was a great communicator from booking to check-in and quick to respond to any queries. His sister Sharon was the most welcoming, warm, charming, and gracious host while we were there. She also responded quickly to any messages. She met us there and made sure we knew all of the details about the home and how to use all of the incredible amenities. We enjoyed meeting her and were very happy to spend a bit of time with a local who gave us great tips and recommendations and shared some laughs (and who is a native Irish speaker). We have been to Ireland many times and, in particular, to the Dingle Peninsula. Without a doubt, this was the best experience we have had with any accommodation and host. That is saying something, given the beauty of Ireland and the incredible people there. We will most definitely return as soon as we can. Cheers, Kim & Paul

We truly appreciated our stay in Ballyferriter. The house is spacious and very conveniently located (restaurants and grocery shop within walking distance), closest beach reachable by foot. All major tourist attractions on the Dingle peninsula can be reached easily by car.

House was spotless, cleaned and maintained to a high standard. Ideal location within the village. Plenty of space for children to play safely. Property manager (Sharon) was very supportive and welcoming.

We loved "our" house in Balleyferriter. It was clean, cozy and near everything we wanted in a vacation destination. There were a few glitches but our new friend Sharon helped us each time. She was kind, attentive and helpful, all that you would want or need to assist with questions or concerns. We would love to go back. We love Dingle and know friends there and in Abbeydorney. Would definitely recommend this lovely home. The view from the bedrooms was exquisite!

This is a great house right in the middle of the beautiful scenic Ballyferriter village. A wonderful base to explore the Dingle peninsula from and a great house to relax in after a long day. Highly recommend.

After waiting so long to get over to Ballyferriter due lockdown. We were thrilled to be able to finally get there. We love the West of Ireland and it was a real treat and privilege to be able to be there. The lovely Sharon met us at the Cottage and filled us in with all the main details and then we started our holiday. It was great to have the shop just a short distance down the road from us. It has a great selection of goods and essentials. It was even better to have the three pubs and hotel such a short distance away in the Village, which we really enjoyed. Having an evening in each and a few statuary Guinness, it would have been rude not too! There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the Village, just what we needed after the anxiety of lockdown. We were made to feel very welcome in all the pubs and hotel. We enjoyed some great evenings and lovely food. We visited The Blasket Islands which was a wonderful experience allied with a very informative talk on Great Blasket about life in the Islands. On our journey back we were thrilled to see Common Dolphins, Seals, Minky and Humpback Whale. There are good walking opportunities in the area too. I walked The Three Sisters and there is a lovely walk on the beach along the beach at Smerwick Harbour. We also hired electric bicycles from Dingle Bikes for two days, again a great way to see the peninsula in a more manageable fashion.We also booked a taxi and had an evening in Dingle. I forgot to mention that we were blessed with lovely weather too, which always helps. What was really good too was that when we returned to the Cottage in the evenings, how comfortable it was, the bedrooms and kitchen and cooking facilities were spot on. So overall I'd would say this break was just what we needed and in a beautiful part of the World, in lovely accommodation, who could ask for more. Family of 5 stayed at this property very nice accommodation and location. All the people we interacted with were lovely and helpful. When I come back to this area, I would definitely stay here again

A stunning house in the equally stunning location of Ballyferriter, short walk of a couple on minutes and your in the town, local shop that sells everything, 3 pubs 1 restaurant and a museum which also has a café. The house has everything you could possibly need ( even wi-fi ) a very well equipped kitchen and 4 large bathrooms, plenty of private parking all exactly as described by the owner, Micheal, Communications with Micheal and Maura and Sharon who met us on arrival was again brilliant. The area itself is breath taking , short drives of 10 minutes and the bays/coves with spectacular views have to been seen to be believed. We had a brilliant week and was very sorry to leave, already planning a return to the area and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Very comfortable and cosy cottage - ideal if you are looking to relax. The position in Ballyferriter offers all you need: lovely views and walks, a shop and a few pubs within walking distance and Dingle not too far away. We had a great time and Micheal's family contributed by going out of their way to help.

Everything we needed - close to shop/pubs/playground. Short drive or long walk to beach. Beal ban beach ideal for children.

The property was so clean and well kept. Michael and his sister Sharon were very accommodating, warm and treated us like family. The three bedrooms were large and comfortable including three large, full bathrooms. There was a nice fireplace with everything needed to make warm fires. I highly recommend this property! We had an amazing time and would stay here again. The property owners make sure you have everything you need during your stay and are easily reachable.

We felt so welcomed and cared for by Michael's sister when we arrived on the beautiful Dingle peninsula. It felt like being welcomed by family. The house and amenities were absolutely perfect. We could not have asked for a better start to our Irish holiday. This is a house I would recommend to all my family and friends.

The location is perfect for exploring the Dingle Peninsula and surrounding areas. We stayed for 5 nights in the middle of a 3 week visit Ireland. While there we were able to enjoy the Dingle Food Festival, the beautiful Slea Head Drive and the food and music in the local pubs in Ballyferriter. Sharon visited us shortly after our arrival and made sure that we were settled in and gave us suggestions about what to see while staying there. Overall, our stay was a great experience. The rugged view from the back of the house is beautiful. Michael's house provided the perfect pause during our visit to Ireland

We stayed at this lovely home for one week while on holiday. It was an outstanding choice! It is located at the top of the hill with a view of the 'Wild Atlantic' and the 'Three Sisters Mountains.' The home has 3 large bedrooms, 2 with ensuites, and a smaller bedroom. it is one block from several pubs and the corner grocery, where you can buy freshly baked breads, scones, and donuts and most anything else you need. It is in an excellent location - away from all the tour buses and people. It is just a short drive to Dingle town. It is on the ring of Kerry and only a short drive to Dunquin, where you can ride a ferry out to the Blaskets. We want to thank Michael for all of his advice prior to our arrival. When we arrived, Michael's sister Sharon greeted us with the keys as well as a small tour of the home. When we discovered our wi-fi was acting up, we called Sharon. In a very short time, Sharon brought us her personal router from home and set it up. Several times Sharon 'dropped by' to check that everything was fine. Michael's mom, Phil, also came by to check on us. I simply can't say everything in this small review. What I will say is that on our next holiday in Ireland we will stay in this home. Michael, our thanks to you, Phil, and Sharon for making our holiday so great!

The O'Connor's were always making sure our holiday was going as planned. Ballyferriter is a beautiful place. I highly recommend staying at the house.

We spent just over 2 weeks travelling around Ireland, and without a doubt our favorite place to stay--by far--was this little gem tucked on a hillside in the little village of Ballyferriter. We were travelling with our 5-yr old son and "Grandma." The home was spacious, very clean, comfortable, and easily the most well-equipped VRBO we have every stayed in. I was a little worried about the remoteness of the property, but it's location was awesome. Just 15 minutes from the town of Dingle, and just one block off of the Slea Head Drive, it was the best of both worlds. We were met by the owner's mother (could not have been sweeter) who showed us around the home. 3 HUGE bedrooms -- 2 upstairs and 1 on the main floor (King Bed / Queen Bed / 2 Twins), each with its own full bath. There was a lovely kitchen with what seemed like newer appliances and a full size washer and separate dryer (rare in our experience in Europe). It had every kitchen gadget you could want, and high-quality, matching dinnerware, flatware, and glasses. It also had a nice, large table, and two areas for TV watching (in the living room and a separate "den-type" room). The showers were hot and powerful. The owner's sister came by a few times to see if we needed anything and to offer advice. She was so kind and helpful! We had lovely views of the mountain we were situated on and ocean/landscape views from the two upper bedrooms. We were also a short walk (3 minutes) to Murphy's -- a little pub/restaurant where we had one of the best meals of our trip. A 2-minute walk will get you to a little convenience store where you can get produce, deli, cereal, bread, and any other staples you forgot to get at the Super Valu in Dingle (don't get the pizza, though -- it was terrible!). We spent 3 nights and if we could do it again, we'd stay longer. The beaches are incredible and the Slea Head Drive is stunning. It would also be possible to do the Ring of Kerry from here, but it'd be a long day. Can't say enough positive things about this place! Seriously...stay here!!!

Very nice home everything you need and more. Close to Dingle .. There is so much to do and we where so comfortable in their lovely home. If you come and stay the first week in October there is a wonderful three day cooking festable. We experienced the Dingle Cookery class fishing and cooking. So much fun for the adults and teenagers. Also there is the trampolines in the ocean with wetsuits. CASTLEGREORY SPORTS AND WATER they loved it.

We wanted to stay away from the tour bus crowd of Dingle town and this proved a fine choice. Great local hikes and beaches as well as pubs and a grocery just down the hill. When one of our party lost an Iphone7 in the brush, our caretaker Sharon could not have been more concerned or helpful. We highly recommend this property.

We could not have been more pleased with the accommodations. Sharon, the property manager, was always available to answer questions and/or offer advice. Quite the lady.. were I 30 years younger and single ... uh, where was I. Right, good floor plan and a fully equipped kitchen. Fireplace for those cool night. If you want to experience the Dingle Peninsula, this would be the prefect location. Not to mention that there are very decent Pubs within easy walking distance.

After reading all of the flawless reviews, my wife and I decided to spend a week in An Maimin', and it still exceeded our expectations. This house is in such a beautiful, peaceful setting. Close to the beach, close to the mountains, close to the breath taking and unforgettable Slea Head Drive, and 15 minutes to Dingle. If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax, and a base to absorb the history and beauty of the Dingle Peninsula, you will not regret staying here. To borrow a phrase from one of the other reviewers, it is absolutely "modern, clean, spacious and very nicely decorated." It is also a very very safe and quiet place to enjoy the treasures of Ireland!! Dont stay at a hotel! Light up the fireplace, pour yourself a glass of Tullamore, and enjoy this warm comfortable house at the top of the hill in Ballyferriter.

The house and location were just perfect for our first trip to Ireland. Perfect for those who want to get away from it all in a gorgeous country setting. The house is modern, clean, spacious and very nicely decorated. Although we didn't meet Michael during our visit, his sister Sharon was just fabulous and so helpful in our checking in and out--so friendly and kind. We stayed over Thanksgiving and used the fully stocked kitchen to cook our Thanksgiving Day feast. Michael was so thoughtful in sending over a bottle of champagne for our Thanksgiving celebration! We've rented homes and condos many times, and this one is at the top of our list!

We had a lovely stay in Micheal's beautiful home in Ballyferriter! Sharon met us at the house and was very warm and welcoming! She gave us a lot of helpful information on the beautiful Dingle area and kindly brought us some provisions to get us going since the local store had gone out of business. The house was spotless and so comfortable. It is a quick walk down the street to the friendly pubs which have great food and a little further is a lovely beach! We were two couples traveling together and there was plenty of room! We really appreciated the beautiful kitchen and the convenience of the washer and dryer. We could have spent much more time in this lovely area. Nearby Dingle is really cute and fun to explore with some wonderful shops. Overall perfect experience and we are very grateful to Sharon and her brother Micheal for a wonderful stay! Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this quaint home on the Dingle Peninsula. The house itself was extremely clean and comfortable. And the location was perfect for exploring the area.

This house in Ballyferriter I recommend with a smiling and grateful enthusiasm. “An Maimin” was very comfortable... easy... restful, uncomplicated, and spacious too... and a view! a new variation on the theme "location, location, location". Dingle is of course simply magnificent, and the view from this house spreads out, downward, across and upward, to embrace Smerwick Harbour and a wide sweep of the peninsula, ending with crags glowering or smiling over the ocean (depending on the weather). To open the front door, to look out from a window, is to be greeted with a view that embraces heart and mind, and invites exploration. Walks are a plenty... along lengthy or short beaches... or choose cliff and mountainy hill scrambles... Be tempted to end the day with a late evening dander up the road behind the house and feel another splendid view... which should reduce you to patient looking and meditation.... We were at ease in An Maimin and that was an essential part of our enjoyment. The owner’s sister was a lovely and engagingly smiling presence and help... reassuring and a face of the local community. Ballyferriter may be small but just down the short hill there are three or four places to eat heartily or simply ... and wishes for a grand holiday easily fall from local lips. We will be back and with more of the family... and hopefully in this central, helpful house.
