Mike and Gillian’s cottage was lovely and homey. We stayed there 10 days and even though the weather was poor and neither me nor my husband were feeling very well (we had to go to the doctor in town to get antibiotics eventually) we rested and recuperated - sitting in the sunroom looking out at the beautiful scenery was perfect for both body and soul. By the time we left there we were raring to go on the next part of our trip. The hosts were super responsive to all our needs. The sheep were calming to look at. The town had good restaurants and stores. There was even an Aldi’s in town. The cottage was close to town but far enough away to feel you were in the country. This is a spectacular part of Ireland and we were very pleased that we chose this place. Thanks to the O’Connor’s!

Gillian & Mike are amazing hosts - always available, friendly, helpful - more like family than hosts! This house is one of 4 on the property (including Gillian & Mike’s own home) but you are very far apart with your own yard and space so it’s very private.
Waking up to stunning views of the ocean, hillside, castle/ring fort and of course sheep made for a picturesque holiday that we’ll never forget. It’s an older home, but been kept up very well. Plenty of space for a family and room to work. Wifi was good enough for video conferences & streaming movies. Washer and Drier in the house, as well as a drying line outside, made laundry easy. The property is nonsmoking which was great - no horrible stall smoke smell lingering about.
Gillian & Mike - their whole family actually, really made our holiday perfect, you won’t find better hosts!!!

Gillian and Mike were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome yet we had our privacy.
We loved our 2 week stay and didn’t need to travel far to enjoy our day. Coming home to the house perched on the hill with stunning views always amazed us. Very comfortable beds and a large living room couch to enjoy tv together.
A super holiday to cherish.

This is a really nice house in a great location for exploring Co Kerry, with an absolutely amazing view. Honestly, the pictures don't really do it justice.
It's extremely clean, has everything you probably would need, and the owners are extremely nice. They live one house away, so it's very convenient to check in or talk to them if you have questions, etc. And their recommendations were terrific!
We had a wonderful time and have already recommend the house to some friends!

Beautiful views...but missing the love.....
Beautiful views...but missing the love.....
The cottage is in a truly wonderful location on a hilltop, a stones throw from the Atlantic and (when it is not raining) affording sensational views.
Throughout the process of booking the owners were more than flexible and friendly, and kindly stayed up despite our late arrival. The property itself is comfortable and well sized, but after a few hours the details sink in, and this is what makes the difference between a building that is rented out to make money and a home away from home. Things we noticed and would recommend attention:
1. The property is described as ‘newly renovated’ - it is not new. More like “ at some stage in the last 5 years’ - it is simply now too long since it was done to be described as such
2. Only upon arrival do you realize that even hot water out of the bathroom taps and kitchen sinks is electrically heated = you pay on top, for what is arguably a basic necessity. That you just pay for heating and hot water in a shower is just about Ok, but from a kitchen? And do not forget the rent is already on the healthy side of upper medium for Ireland...
3. with that in mind, despite a late arrival we were welcomed with no hot water. This cold water greeting left us feeling that this was intended to be more of a business than a passion and anything we want, we pay. We have been to many cottages that showed more heart than this, it was a cold shock (pardon the pun)
4. Poorly thought through on the details. No towel rails of any decent size that can hold more than one towel. How 6 people in this house dry their towels after a shower in bad weather is beyond me. No space to hang tea towels in the kitchen
5. Poor cleaning...look at the details...disgusting toilet brushes, beginning of mold around windows.....it needs some love
6. No mirror in one bathroom at all! No space to put anything from your toiletries anywhere in either bathroom
7. The dining table is wobbly and is almost impossible to eat off of
I am aware that this sounds pretty bad. It is not, they are details, but enough that some may be disappointed when it is so easy to fix. I could not recommend staying here but that is my personal tast...others I am sure will be more than happy

Comfortable and quiet with outstanding views from every window in the cottage. Would recommend it highly to nature lovers like myself who also love to travel.
The coastline in this area was dramatic and exploring it was amazing. Gillian and Mike are great hosts and we hope to visit again.

Beyond spectacular
Beyond spectacular
It is beyond the scope of my words to describe the natural beauty of this property. The view, the sheep, the border collie, the friendliness of the town and the hosts, the comfort of the house, the surrounding day trips. At first it seems like 7 days is too long. At the end of 7 days we were so sad to leave and return to Dublin and the hustle bustle. Do not hesitate to enjoy a week with the O’Connors.

Fantastic family vacation home
Fantastic family vacation home
The location and comfort of this home exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed watching the sheep and cows in the fields with the picturesque background of the town of Cahersiveen, Medieval ruins, and the water. The house was clean, the kitchen is spacious, the beds were comfortable, and we loved the sunny dining and sitting rooms. The owners were friendly, accommodating, and respected our privacy. It was our first trip to Ireland and the location allowed us many activities, including a fantastic visit to Skellig Michael island (book early!) and hiking and outings to the Kerry Cliffs, Killarny National Park, and Dingle.

Beautiful and comfortable
Beautiful and comfortable
The cottage is situated on a beautiful hillside overlooking Valentia and the village of Cahersiveen. Even the beautiful photos on the site do not do the view justice. We spent far more time than we planned just sitting in the back room with a book in our laps listening to the sheep and gazing out across the mountains and the river.
The hiking trail to the top of the hill behind the house afforded another (and different) view, out over Dingle Bay. Our children loved to roam up there, look for the fairy houses and picnic at the tables placed along the trail.
The cottage itself is very comfortable and quite large. It was more than enough space for our family of six. We had everything we needed to cook meals. Laundry in the house meant that we left after two weeks with clean clothes for the next leg of our journey.
Cahersiveen was a lovely little village, quite underrated I think now having spent so much time there and having visited many of the more touted villages (Dingle, Kenmare, Adare) during our trip. We worried that being so far off into the southwest would be limiting but it was just the opposite. We found that we had everything we needed and more. A good selection of pubs in town, various restaurants (Chinese, Curry, Pizza in the Oratory, etc.), two convenient shops for groceries, etc.
Mike and Gillian were very welcoming and great to do business with.
When we come back to Ireland, we will book this cottage. You should, too!

Perfect location for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and Ring of Kerry
Perfect location for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and Ring of Kerry
We had a fantastic stay in Ireland from Aug. 23 to Aug. 30! This house was nestled in an absolutely beautiful setting overlooking rolling hills of sheep pasture with the ocean and mountains as a back drop! The scenic overlook on the property is a must see at sunrise and sunset! The house itself was cozy, very clean, and had a well equipped kitchen. All amenities that we needed for our stay were readily available.
Gillian was very helpful with answering questions I had before our trip and our hosts were very friendly and gracious during our stay as well. The property is very well located for spending time in the quaint little town of Cahersiveen as well as driving the Ring of Kerry, day trips to Dingle, Killarney, the Cliffs of Moher, and taking a boat trip to the Skelligs. Loved our vacation and would definitely recommend this property and the Wild Atlantic Way to anyone planning a trip to The Emerald Isle!

A Fabulous Kerry Cottage
A Fabulous Kerry Cottage
My son and I had the privilege of spending our vacation at this wonderful cottage. To start, the views are unbelievable. There are sweeping views of the countryside, complete with fields, ocean, flowers, sheep, ancient castles- you name, it's there. It's the perfect way to start and end your days in Ireland.
The cottage itself couldn't be more cozy. If you aren't comfortable here, the fault is yours. The furnishings were perfect. The kitchen had everything you needed to put some lovely meals together. It was perfect not to have to race out after breakfast first thing in the morning. The bedrooms were comfy as well. We slept like babies! And after a day of hiking, the shower was a piping hot respite.
Gillian and Mike could not have been more welcoming! My only regret is that Ireland is not closer to New York. I'd spend all my vacations here.
If it's a beautiful, quiet, cozy place you are looking for, this is the perfect cottage for you.

A home away from home
My wife and I enjoyed an extended stay in this wonderful home. Mike and Gillian are great hosts. They know the area well and share their knowledge to ensure your stay is grand. Within walking distance you will find a castle and two stone forts. This home makes for a welcome retreat after a day taking in the sites and attractions so richly abundant in the area. An extended stay affords time to take things in at your own pace. No need to hustle, bustle, and scurry about. Wonderful day hikes, drives, and beaches to stroll. The house is equipped with everything you need from A to Z. Wonderful sunsets. Taking in the view from the conservatory is perfection at any time of the day. We are very happy we found this wonderful home for our extended stay.

We recently returned from a weeks stay at Gillian's house. My husband and I were traveling with two senior parents and two young children. We found the house very child friendly and it certainly suited all of our needs. Gillian was more than accommodating to us. Overall, a wonderful rental and we certainly would stay here again in the future!

Lovely home with astonishing views!
Lovely home with astonishing views!
I stayed in this beautiful home in Cahirciveen for a week. I woke up each morning and went down to the kitchen just to see the view of the water and the green sloping hills of Cahirciveen. The owners are really friendly and helpful and the location is very convenient to any part of the Ring of Kerry -- and for me, the great bonus is I wasn't in a tourist trap, but in an actual home on a sheep farm, with a beach and historical sites all around me.
I encourage anyone visiting south Kerry to stay in the O'Connor's home. It is spacious, affordable, has everything you need to have a relaxing vacation, and is located in a truly beautiful spot. The pictures don't do the view justice!

A summer of breath-taking beauty
A summer of breath-taking beauty
Our stay at Mike and Gillian O'Connor's cottage was a dream come true. We spent ten weeks in what felt like a fairytale, and we could not have been more pleased. The cottage itself was fully-equipped. We made many meals in the stocked kitchen...overlooking the incredible views of River Fertha, the bay surrounding Valentia, and the wild, open sea. The peat-burning fire made every evening cozy and inviting. I had to stay current with work, and the O'Connor's made sure I was well-connected to WiFi.
The O'Connor's--what a lovely family! Gillian and Mike, along with their amazing boys, made us feel most welcome. Their hospitality was unceasing, and by the end of our stay, we consider them "Irish family." Our two little girls enjoyed learning about the O'Connor's sheep, and even helping Buster the sheepdog herd them into the right fields. The location was phenomenal. We were within a few minutes walk of two ring forts, Ballycarbury Castle, and two beaches. The town of Caherciveen had all we needed. It was a perfect home base for exploring much of the Western coast of Kerry. The beauty we were exposed to on a daily basis was unreal...the glory of the landscape, the wildness of creation around us, and the loveliness of the O'Connors and many others we had the pleasure of knowing during our stay. We would highly recommend the O'Connor's cottage for anyone.

Great cottage in outstanding location
Great cottage in outstanding location
We spent a blissful Christmas and New Year in this tastefully furnished, superbly located cottage. Gillian and Mike were perfect hosts and it was fantastic to arrive to a lit fire and welcoming goodies, plus festive decorations to get us in the mood. The view from the cottage is stunning - in 20 years of holidaying in Ireland it was definitely the best view from a breakfast table we've ever had, and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing (though great luck with the weather helped!) Caherciveen offers everything a visitor could want, from its dozen or more pubs to a host of independent shops - including Quinlans, selling delicious fish fresh from the boat. There are good restaurants (we particularly liked the Skellig Rock) and even an excellent Chinese takeaway. The antiquities dotted all over the peninsula and the breathtaking views around every corner make this bit of Kerry pure heaven. We'll be back!
