It was a nice flat

NOISE! The kitchen/living is right next to a major bridge into Barnard Castle. The traffic noise is really loud. You cannot hear conversation when tractors/busses/lorries pass. The tv has to be on very high volume to be heard above the traffic. It is advertised as 2nd floor. This is from the river. The flat is in fact roadside. There is no privacy in the lounge as people walking past or in the cars look straight in. Parking was advertised as private and onsite. It is not. You have to find a space on the street down the road .

Ideal location close to all the amenities in Barnard Castle. Ideal location to explore the area. Comfortable accommodation with everything that was needed.

No dedicated car parking but managed to get a space on road nearby. Fridgever small so unable to store all our food and drink.

Fantastic location overlooking the bridge and castle and close to all shops/facilities

The traffic was a but intrusive, but not a problem for a weekend away. We struggled to get hot rather than warm water out of the taps for shower/bath.

Our second time at the flat and love all that it and the surrounding area has to offer.

Stunning location, great access to the town, very comfortable living areas and bedrooms. Welcome basket full of amazing treats. Very clean. Had everything we needed. Ideal for a family with teens and a dog.

Lovely sofa and roomy chair but maybe an additional seat would top the lounge off.

Great place to stay.

So convenient for lovely Barnard Castle. Generally well equipped. It was good to be provided with milk, teabags etc

The cleanliness was acceptable but there were definitely some cobwebs and some areas which had been missed.

Everything here that you need. Fabulous views, listening to the river with the window slightly open at night was lovely, beds were really comfortable. Just felt so relaxed and would definitely recommend.

Only thing I can say here is there is some road noise when in the living room but once in bed it was silent.

Gorgeous.

The setting could justifiably be called iconic: the bridge, the river and the looming castle. There’s a lot of traffic past the building but it didn’t disturb and you couldn’t really have the setting without it.

Comfortable

Key wasn’t in key safe when we arrived. Had to ring owner and wait 50 minutes to get access to property. Not good after long journey. Property was fine but fridge too small for 4 people’s food and lots of traffic noise.

We enjoyed staying there despite the issues around cleaning and the lock. Would recommend it.

The apartment was very comfortable, especially the bed. Everything was of very high quality. It was well located with easy parking. It was exceptionally well equipped with everything you need and more.

The apartment sells itself on the cleanliness yet when we arrived it was certainly not clean. I reported this immediately by email with photo attachments but unfortunately Sykes cottages did not contact me until after I had left and the owners never responded to my email at all. I also had trouble with the lock to the outside of the apartment which was reported to the voicemail just after breakfast but I did not get a response until mid afternoon meaning we were locked out for several hours. Better communication would have sorted both these issues out easily.
