About this apartment rental

The apartment is situated in the perfect spot between University Square and Castle.

On the lower level there is a double bedroom, living room with cable-tv, fully equipped kitchen and a toilet. In the attic you will find an open area with a double bed and a very small separate room with 2 single mattresses. On that level there is also a bathroom with a shower and a WC.
The apartment comes with a spacious private terrace with weber grill and a beautiful view over the 'Altstadt'.
Other amenities - all free of charge of course - are W-Lan, a set of linen and towels and parking in our own garage.....
where you might as well leave your car for a while if you brought it along. Because you just turn left outside of the house and take a 5 minutes walk to the university square which is right in the middle of the 'Altstadt'. Or you turn right - 5 minutes to the castle.
Climbing stairs required.

The location and layout of this house is fantastic. Kitchen is cozy but has all you’d want for a stay of several days: dishes, cookware, coffee machine, dishwasher. Perfect for a family with up to 3 or 4 children - there is a lovely loft room with shower (great water pressure). Bonus points for a variety of games and books in the living room. Thanks for the great stay!

We had an excellent stay here. It is very close to the Christmas markets, restaurants, shops and the Heidelberg castle. We used the garage for our car rental; it was tight and the street is quite busy at times. The many flights of stairs (66 if you're counting) would be very difficult for anyone with heavy bags and mobility issues.

Excellent Location in Old Heidelberg

Volker is a charming host! He greeted us and helped carry our bags up the stairs. He also allowed us early access to the unit as it wasn't occupied the previous night. Such a treat after a long flight and train trips from Frankfurt Airport. The house is very comfortable, with every amenity, including a beer keg on the terrace! The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals, and Volker even provided orange juice and seltzer. The beds and linens were very clean and comfy. The entire place was spotlessly clean. There is a long shelf with books and DVDs and games for all ages. My adult son and I enjoyed our week, and I hope it is vacant again when my husband joins me on our next trip in three months. Thank you for everything!!

We had a very nice time in Heidelberg. The eclectic apartment was in a perfect location for getting to the castle and the Altstadt. It was nice to have a parking place too and we didn’t use the car the whole time in Heidelberg. Good communication with the host. Our group of 3 adults and 3 kids fit well in the apartment.

So glad we were able to get this property. Great location, very quiet, and only a few minutes walk to the main square. We rented this place in conjunction with his other apartment in the building. More than enough room for 5 grown individuals. Owner was fantastic! Met us upon arrival and showed us the property. He even ensured we had a fresh keg of beer!! I was concerned about parking because of the location but, was pleasantly surprised to find I could easily fit a full sized 10 passenger van into the garage. The patio was very nice with pleasant views. Even though you are in Heidelberg it is very quiet and peaceful. Loft had all the kitchenware needed to enjoy cooking and dining at the apartment should you choose.

We had a wonderful time in Heidelberg and enjoyed our rental very much. Volker was a gracious and helpful host! The location was ideal and allowed us to walk everywhere. The house was a great size for our family of five and very clean.

We stayed just two nights at the flat, would gladly have stayed longer. The flat was spotlessly clean and cosy, beds comfortable and the balcony/terrace must be a real boon in Summer. Very warm welcome by the owner, who lives next door. Thank you for letting us stay. Would love to stay again when we are "down south" next time. Very close to the beautiful old centre of Heidelberg.

The property has the potential to be very nice (due to its location) but was dirty and we found mouse droppings in the lounge, and evidence of rats in the roof. We raised it with the owner who apologised and said they were aware of the issue. Had this happened in a hotel I would have expected a full and sincere apology as well as a significant refund. On contacting HomeAway we were told they had also contacted the owner to try to resolve this, but the owner did not respond to HomeAway. As they would not communicate with us to resolve we feel forced to write this review to warn other potential customers. Our 3 year old daughter was playing on a floor covered in mouse urine and the owner seemed to think that was acceptable. Sadly, we would advise you avoid this property if that is the owner’s attitude to cleanliness and customer satisfaction.

I can only say positive things about our stay in Heidelberg. The host was waiting for us when we arrive, and even the beer fridge on the back deck was stocked with a local brew! This home slept five of us (one child) comfortably! The loft is only a short walk from the beautiful castle and old town Heidelberg is a short walk the other way! Thank you!!!

Out of all the traveling that I have done, staying in Heidelberg was the best. The loft that we stayed was beautiful; the design, the location, and most of all the Volkers. One of the marvelous attractions at the loft was the terrace. Having a grill and a beer dispenser was a highlight for our barbeques and evenings with family on the terrace. The location to downtown Heidelberg was awesome because every morning we took a walk to various areas of downtown Heidelberg. What a great city to visit with its history, buildings, and the old Castle. The last comment is the layout of the loft. It was very comfortable for three; however, five members would have been comfortable as well. The loft was well equipment for everyday living with all the necessities available. I would recommend the "loft" to any visitor wanting to enjoy the attractions of Heidelberg. Merice from USA

A great little bolt hole in Heidelberg.

This was the second time I have stayed at Volker's loft apartment. It is superbly situated only minutes walk from the centre of the Altstadt. The first time I stayed, two years ago, everything was fresh and new. The apartment is still in fairly good order but is looking a bit "tired". Shrubs, trees and weeds have grown, so that the view across to the Philosophenweg on the other side of the river is mostly obscured. Volker still provides cooled beer on tap, which is very welcome after climbing the sixty seven steps up from the road! Having the use of the garage is a great bonus, as parking in Heidelberg can be something of a nightmare. Once tucked away, the car can be left, while exploring the delights of the town and needs only to be taken out for excursions away from Heidelberg. It is by no means Volker's fault that, due to Brexit, the pound sterling has fallen in value but it does mean that the apartment is now much more expensive for British visitors. Whereas two years ago it represented very good value for money, now it has become less. Nevertheless my stay was most enjoyable and given a little care and attention, provided that the sixty seven steps are not a problem, I would recommend this as a great little bolt hole in Heidelberg.

Great place - exactly as it was advertised. Clean and comfortable. Volker was a wonderful host! Convenient to the Hauptstrasse and the castle- easy access to trains and buses so you could get anywhere you needed. Only downside might be that it was up on a hill and then you had to go up a lot of steps to get to the apartment so it could be difficult for some people but it was fine for my family (good way to burn off the calories we ate at the nearby restaurants!) Wished we could have stayed another night or two. Thanks Volker!

The owner was friendly and welcoming, and gave us usable advice in getting around the city and to the castle. The apartment was comfortable, clean, and ample for the five of us. The location made it easy to walk to the old city, and we were close enough to walk to the castle. We had a wonderful stay.

Volker and his family were welcoming and friendly. Their apartment is ideally located near the Hauptstraße and plenty of restaurant options. A short walk up the hill gets you right to the castle grounds and beautiful views of the city. The keg fridge is a welcome sight when you come back in from a long walk along the Philosopher's Way. The apartment was clean, and they even set us up with some essentials (milk, butter, and juice to name a few) in the kitchen so we wouldn't have to go to the grocery store right away. It was great. There is a healthy dose of steps up from the street so don't forget anything in your car below. Overall, a wonderful stay and a super location.

We loved Volker's place. It is within minutes walking distance of the beautiful old town as well as the castle. The apartment is very charming, and was plenty spacious for the four of us. The kids loved the loft upstairs, their own little hideout. The internet was fast and stable. The walls may be a bit thin, as we could hear other people at times. But they settled down before we went to bed, so that was not a problem. Volker, the host, always answered our emails promptly, and was there to greet us when we arrived. Despite the sub-zero temperatures outside, he had a keg of beer tapped, just in case. We hope to return to Heidelberg, and we'll definitely stay here again. We couldn't have wished for a better experience. Thank you!

I stayed with my daughter and husband and there was plenty of room. The apartment is very unique and chalet style. Parking was available which was a nice surprise. The castle and downtown are steps from the apartment. The owner's daughter greeted us on arrival and the owner showed up shortly after with a fresh carton of milk, no less. We were left to our own devices and it felt like a home away from home. Heidelberg is a beautiful city. Although busy it is not over run by tourists. The prices for museum and castle tickets are extremely reasonable as well. Thank you to Volker and his family for an enjoyable stay. Best regards BB & MR

The location of the property was superb. However it would not be suitable for the disabled or for anyone who was not reasonably fit. To reach the apartment there are 67 steps from road level. A great bonus is the garage, as parking in Heidelberg is a problem; either hard to find, or expensive. The walk into the centre of the old town is a matter of minutes. To get back requires a short but steep climb. The apartment has been built by a DIY enthusiast and the finish is certainly less than professional; not a problem to me. The upper floor with a bedroom, bathroom and study, is very close to the sloping roof and so a lot of bending, especially for tall people, is required. Volker, the owner and host, is genial and friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. I was impressed by the very good, cold beer which is freely available and on tap on the patio. The patio is perfect for hot, summer days, as it is mostly in shade, being north facing. As well as the beer, there is a barbecue. I would certainly stay there again, if visiting Heidelberg.

This is the perfect location for a weekend in Heidelberg, feels like holiday in the green, as the house is located near the historic center, just above the city, with its back to the beginning city forest. It's clean and light flooded, but the best thing: a beer tap on the large terrace, combined with a classy Jamie Oliver Barbecue. As we were there, everything was equipped, so we just bought some steaks, and the party was on. Thanks Volker for being easy-going!

Sehr schöne Wohnung mit einem tollen Blick über den Odenwald. Es sind nur ca. 10 Min. zu Fuß in die Fußgängerzone, allerdings muss man rückzugs berghoch laufen und einige Treppen bezwingen, auch die Wohnung erreicht man nur über Treppen (was uns persönlich nicht störte). Dafür hat man ja in sehr ruhiger Lage einen grandiosen Ausblick. Die Wohnung ist sehr gut eingerichtet, auch den Außenbereich mit der Terrasse und dem Grill kann man sehr empfehlen. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und hilfsbereit, außerdem antworteten sie sehr zeitnah auf unsere Anfrage. Gerade in Heidelberg mit dem steten Parkplatzmangel ein großes Plus: der Vermieter stellt einen Platz in seiner offenen Garage zur Verfügung.
