The room was freezing when we went up for a rest after 4pm, had to go to reception to ask for the heating to be turned up. It took an age to warm up, too cold to shower for the evening, however by the time we got back to the room at around 10pm it had warmed up, was cold in the morning too. Taking my hot water bottle next time 😊

Cooked breakfast was good, though small portions.

The weather was sub-zero and we found the room cold, the radiator was hardly producing any heat, with wooden frame absorbing heat. Requested increase temperature on each day, which the staff applied, but didn't make much difference. Too many basic things on restaurant menu not available on both evenings. Food/wine over-priced.

Friendly, relaxed place. Good standard of furnishings and very comfortable. Excellent food.

Where it is in Grassington

Was given a room where the staff knew there was an issue with the drains and the smell in the room was unbearable, on top of that the heating in the room was not acceptable as the temperature had changed significantly outside to just below freezing and you cant change the heating in the room you have to ask to have it increased. We ask to move room for our second night and this room was better but then we had a generator going off and on all night but sometimes you have to deal with this and if our first night had not been so awful would have been ok. Then to top it all, when we checked out all we got was a sorry, the minimum we should have got is not to have to pay for our first night, in fact I believe the room was a health and safety threat! Because of the lack compensation we will never stay at the black horse again. We love Grassington and will return next year and stay somewhere else. This was our second visit to the black horse and I can believe their shortsightedness as this will cost them more. We won’t ever stay again, none of my family will ever stay and none of my network which is vast and all because they couldn’t be bothered to address a customers issues in the appropriate manner

This is our 2nd visit to the Black Horse hotel and this stay was even more enjoyable than our last one. We stayed in room 10 which looked like it had been recently refurnished. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was the best hotel shower we’ve experienced for many years! We love the location and the food! The bar has a wide and varied selection of local beers and wines.

The only thing that was a negative about our stay was certain younger members of the hotel staff who seemed uninterested in their job. Upon checking out we raised a concern that the fire alarm had gone off at 2am in the Morning and there hadn’t been any hotel staff to oversee the evacuation and the disinterested response from the reception staff member was very disappointing.

The hotel was good although our superior room was on the small side and unfortunately did have strong smell of old cigarette smoke. We didn’t report this as there seemed little point.

We were really looking forward to a peaceful break in what is a beautiful place however on arrival there were major Yorkshire Water replacement works taking place right where our hotel was located. We totally understand this has to happen but do not think it’s great that the hotel didn’t inform us ahead of arrival. The works went on from first thing in the morning until the end of the day with complete disruption and noise. There were temporary barriers everywhere, areas for pedestrians that were dug out and heavy duty work vehicles everywhere. This was really disappointing. The staff were all lovely so don’t like to complain but we definitely should have been informed as we would have not booked.

Lovely village and a beautiful cozy establishment. Comfortable and quaint, the rooms well kitted out, small but lovely. Breakfast service was very good.

Location perfect , warm welcome , staff are lovely . Rooms are generous with everything you need . Comfy bed & good sleep quality . Excellent breakfast . Parking in Grassington always difficult ( more so when market square & street being dug up as it has been for past few weeks ) we found free parking up the Main Street at top of hill , five min walk . Thanks to all for a great stay .

Good pub , friendly staff . Food was excellent apart from the duck

No heating / radiator in bathroom so quite cold in winter Wish they would have asked how we would like the duck cooking as it was quite rare in the middle which put us off

Beautiful decor, fabulous breakfast, friendly & obliging staff & wonderful dog friendly room & facilities.

Lack of car parking, which we were aware of, however the fact that the water company had the whole of the town square & most of the streets dug up made navigation & parking more tricky than anticipated.

Brilliant location, friendly staff, good restaurant and bar. Everything about the place is brilliant and perfect for a stay if you’re walking or exploring the dales.

Maybe could have had the bath towels changed daily but it’s a very minor thing.

A few issues with breakfast - even though we had to choose the night before, order was incorrect and when taken back, I was given a (still) frozen vegetarian sausage.

The location was great. Breakfast was lovely. My partner had the pork with black pudding for an evening meal and thought it was one of the best he'd had!

The shower in our room was high up (room 7), and the door didn't open very wide, so made access for a 5'2" person rather challenging! Though there was a grab handle 🙂.

Evening meal was exceptional.
