Amazing switch of from life right next to the QE Hospital.

We really loved staying here. It was quiet, clean and welcoming. The whole décor of the place felt as if it was giving us a hugh hug. It was the break we needed in a spacious cosy room. Loved that the hotel had a separate entrance to the pub. Nice quiet area just next to the QE hospital.

Can't think of anything we didn't like.

Hands down, the funnest hotel I've stayed in

Sometimes you randomly stumble across places that you would describe as an 'institution' - the Sutherlands is one of those places. Not so much a hotel and more of a community hub, the staff were welcoming, fun, and made us feel instantly at home. Arriving late on a Saturday night, the function room was in full swing - the bar had a great selection of drinks and the music was great. Once it was time for bed, the bedrooms were quiet, comfortable, clean and well-equipped with a massive bathroom and an excellent shower.

Perhaps a slightly faster check in ;-)

The bar and games rooms. Not welcoming and no dining options. We felt as a paying customer that we were a nuisance. Location was not ideal.Thank goodness there was a Sainsburys near by to get food.

My Mum and I stayed at Sutherlands for the Great North Run and we were very impressed. Carl and the team were so friendly, they couldn't do enough for us. We had dinner at Sutherlands and they put the Women's rugby world cup on for us. The room was spacious, the bath was a highlight! Comfy beds and the room had all the amenities you could need. I'll be sure to rebook with Sutherlands next time I do the Great North Run- thank you!

Looks a little run down from the outside & downstairs but the rooms were clean, really well kept and spacious. Carl went above and beyond, he was really helpful - thank you! Recommend!

Downstairs loos were very different in comparison to the rooms (in respect of cleanliness), definitely need attention, but minor to our trip as we used the ones in our rooms.

Sunshine indoors; everything under one roof. Turn left and pull off onto paradise!

Staff were incredible. Clean, comfy room. The chef was able to whip up some tasty scran whilst also providing hip hop club recommendations. Amazing family fun day for the kids, then a great atmosphere for adults in the evening. It's the only place to stay if you're out in Newcastle or a great place to visit that even Brian Potter would be jealous of!

Brilliant

The room was lovely and clean and very very comfortable. It exceeded my expectations. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Facilities were great. Breakfast was great value for money and the best full English I've had.

In Gateshead for an event at the stadium, hotel suited our purpose for that but unlikely to return.

Friendly and helpful staff on arrival and during the evening. The evening meal not particularly large menu choice but the dishes we chose were very good. Pleasant enough room, spacious and comfortable bed. Plenty of tea, coffee etc. in the room.

There was no one available to speak to when we checked out apart from a cleaner who told us to leave the key on the desk. We stayed in room 9 - a bit confused as to why there was an unplugged upright freezer in the room! The TV remote batteries missing - quickly supplied by staff when informed - but still did not work well as it failed to operate volume at all or the standby at the end of the day (maybe down to the replacement batteries?). Biggest issue was the bathroom which has black staining on the ceiling above the bath - possible mould or where mould has once been? Also the self at the bottom of the mirror fixture above the sink is missing - this was very deceptive as at first glance it looked like a glass shelf there, my husband removed his glasses and tried putting them on there but they just fell straight onto the floor.

I don’t think I’d return

The property itself was ok, bar downstairs was ok and reasonable.

Staff were not very helpful, despite trying to get their attentions, someone banging on the door outside to gain access at 1:30 this morning, lasting over half an hour. Came down to complain in the morning, no staff to talk to or even check out with. Crumbs in the bed 🥲. Had high hopes based on the reviews but not a good experience at all.

Well located just off the main road into Newcastle, the hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were great and very helpful and I couldn’t have been happier with my stay there.

No breakfasts, they had no chef no cook hot food. When we got up from our sleep no one was there to even offer a tea or coffee before we left. We left the key unattended.

It is what you pay for

It is what you pay for. The room was clean. The bathroom was better than expected. I booked a double bed but got two singles which wasn't ideal. No one mentioned that there is a separate exit for those leaving before 0900 so spent my first morning locked into the hotel (no staff anywhere) and was a little late for a meeting that day as a result.
