Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Portage by IHG

I liked having an option for a space to accommodate my husband and I with our 2 kids. We liked having a fridge, microwave, and sink. The king bed was comfortable and I didn't wake up sore. The included breakfast was nice. Not a ton of options but it was enough.

There was no bedding provided for the sleeper sofa upon arrival. Missing little extras like disposal plates. It was clean enough but not really clean. The baseboards, and along the shower track were pretty gross. The air conditioner was loud.

The location was good.

Breakfast: Hot food was slow coming out. No pancakes because of a machinery issue. Grey looking sausages. Juice and the cinnamon rolls were good. To be fair, there was a large group of children on a baseball them there. I am sure that something to do with it. We did not want to be subjected to blech food day 2 so we went to a restaurant. Cleanliness: Bathroom floor needed to be mopped. I expected them to do it after my first nights stay, they did not. Comfort: Bed was comfortable. Shower was great. Loved the Dove body wash. The room temperature was a bit tricky. You were either hot or cold. The pool water was FREEZING. Another guest said it was "colder than the Lake" (Michigan). My daughter was in a different room with her children. Their thermostat did not work! No one was available to check it out until the next day. Her room was freezing, when she brought her freezing children back from the pool. She was told the only option was to completely turn the unit off. That was fine until they started sweltering. The time of our stay was mid July. She intentionally got a room with a pull out bed. There was no bedding. There was NO ONE available to bring the bedding to her. She would have had to leave little children alone if we had not been there to go down to the desk for her. Grandpa to the rescue. When he got to the desk, they had NO blankets. He had to go BACK down to get two duvets, COVERS ONLY, so that the children could sleep, because of course, they HAD to turn the air back on to sleep through the night. Summary: overall, I would not stay at this location again. Not only because of the issues our had, but because of the way it was handled. We had mostly inedible breakfast (pancake machine didn't work), dirty floors, and got a "oh, sorry" from the hotel manager through email. My daughter took her situation up the corporate ladder and was at least compensated with points from the hotel.

I booked and paid for a room through booking.com 4 days prior to our arrival. We had reservations at the Country Inn for the rest of our time in Portage but when we decided to leave a day earlier this hotel was the only one with a family suite available so we took it. I messaged them the day before we arrived to let them know we would be arriving late. When we arrived that evening at 10:30 they claimed there wasn’t a reservation for us. The lobby was overflowing with families in town for a baseball tournament. Even after showing him the receipt and booking confirmation number he couldn’t do anything for us. Told us we’d have to talk to the person at the front desk in the morning. We had no choice but to pay for another room at that point which was not a family suite. Instead it was a king suite with a pull out bed. No sheets on the pull out bed. The carpet was stained and sticky. The whole experience was terrible and I’m still fighting to get refunded. The person at the front desk in the morning was useless. I would bet they gave our room to one of the baseball families. Hotel was run down and outdated. I would not recommend staying here to anyone.

Ran out of breakfast coffee! So had to go to nearby Dunkin! Pool too chlorinated so it was hard to breath and watch kids!

The room was spacious and very comfortable The breakfast was excellent! It was in a good location too!! the staff was very friendly!

Breakfast was very good and they had warm cinnamon rolls which were delicious.

The guy checking us in had a hard time finding our reservation even with the print out of the reservation info I gave him. Maybe he hasn’t worked there long.

Room was wonderful, very clean, bed and pillows were great. Wonderful breakfast and hotel staff was awesome!

No biscuits were ever put out at breakfast after they were all eaten. No milk was put out for cereal, but we had plenty. Coffee was excellent!

When we first arrived the hallway smelled like marijuana. The pool could open a little earlier. There was one single hair in our shower. Beds were a little firm so my liking.

We loved our room ! The staff was super nice at check in and checking out ! The only thing we didn’t really enjoy was the breakfast. It was served from 7am to 10am , we got down there at 8:30 and there wasn’t anything really left . No yogurt / individual cartons of milk / no pancakes .

Nothing is satisfying. I was assigned to the first floor, and the noise is far beyond my expectations.

The hygienic conditions of the hotel's breakfast were disappointing, and going to breakfast at 8:45 am would have revealed that it was mostly empty and not restocked. Milk, yogurt, and cinnamon rolls were all empty. What was even more disappointing was that the staff dropped clips from the omelet and sausage area on the floor twice while cleaning. Then they picked them up and put them back on the trays as if nothing had happened, and organized the food.

Great staff !! The best people there.. down fall every thing is styrofoam- so I couldn’t have what I wanted but the ladies did find me an alternative plate( allergy to styrofoam)

Manger was ride on phone - miss communication with my reservation I was charged twice and they denying me the refund . But mostly the sorry tough luck attitude

Was not told there was no internet and lost a lot of time I needed to work. Breakfast was horrible

Breakfast could be better. There were no fruits, no vegetables. The property doesn’t respond to messages on booking.

Shower and sink faucets broken. While taking a shower water was all over the floor and running into kitchen area. The room beside of front desk and ice machine..lots of noise. Outlets did not work to charge my devices

Not much… the beds were very comfy and so were the pillows.

The front desk staff was very short & rude. Our toilet in our room didn’t work.. they did end up switching us to a new room. There was also a major water leak from the ceiling in the main lobby.

The breakfast at this property is THE BEST! There are so many creative breakfast items - pancake maker! The cinnamon rolls are OFF THE HOOK.

Full caffeinated coffee in the room, please. The price was a little high. Bar soap as an option.
