Jubilee First-floor Double Bedroom

Jubilee House at The Fire Fighters Charity is an outstanding place for so many reasons. First and foremost, the staff are everything you’d hope for in a centre dedicated to helping firefighters recover from occupational injuries—warm, welcoming, helpful, and genuinely caring. We stayed there from 12/6/26 to 19/6/26 and had breakfast and dinner each day alongside firefighters undergoing treatment. Listening to their stories, hearing what they’d been through, and seeing how much the support meant to them made our stay feel even more worthwhile. It felt like we were giving something back, even in a small way. As one member of staff said, “every little helps,” and it’s true—we owe so much to the people who run toward danger when the rest of us run away. The facilities were excellent. We were given set times to use the pool, jacuzzi, and gym, which made everything feel calm and organised. There’s plenty of free parking onsite and the grounds are huge, stretching along the river with a resident crane and a few ducks for company—perfect for an after‑dinner walk. The location is ideal too: close to the town centre, right on the doorstep of some beautiful walks and places to visit, and with two pubs at the entrance serving food and drink. There’s also a bus stop right outside, with routes into town or up to Pooley Bridge at the head of Ullswater, where there’s more to see, do, and explore. I honestly can’t recommend Jubilee House highly enough. It’s a place that does real good, for people who truly deserve it, and staying there feels like being part of something meaningful.

Perfect quiet location. Great value for money. Magdalena on reception was fantastically helpful and so friendly. Food was fabulous with fair daily choices and great value @ £9.50 one course and £12.50 two course meal. Wonderful Bar open from 7pm till 10.30pm. Great pool and gym available to use from 5pm till 7pm. Couldn’t believe how lovely it was and there are two other similar Fireman’s charity houses in UK that we will also be trying! The only slight negatives were our double be matress was rather hard and our shower was faulty as it didn’t mix with cold water so was too hot & trickled out but there were other nearby showers to use if necessary and a repair man came next day to sort our problem but we suggested it be fixed after our brief 4 night stay. We managed ok. So, we were very impressed with Jubilee House and would certainly return.

Bed mattress a little too hard; Shower didn’t work properly but we managed and a repair man came to sort it next day; Light above headboard flickered off but just needed new build which again wasn’t a big deal, so we suggested it be sorted when we left after only 4 nights; A small fridge in the room would have been very beneficial but but essential.
