A bit dated and tired

It was a gorgeous historic building with spacious, comfortable rooms. The baths were incredible, spacious, and comfortable. Too, the location was excellent; off the main drag by just a couple blocks gave it a more intimate feel while still being close to everything in Hakone Yamato Also, amenities were great and the staff went above and being to make us feel comfortable and welcome. It was like we were regular customers, not first time guests.

I wish we could have gotten meal service, but since we were in the upper floor, they said they are unable to deliver food. And it was a great place, I just wish it were a little more affordable so we could stay longer.

The onsen at this Ryokan was amazing! It genuinely makes you feel rejuvenated and is open through the night! Nudity is mandatory, so if you're uncomfortable with that, you might want to consider somewhere else. That being said, this is a traditional Japanese ryokan, and the experience makes you truly embrace Japanese culture. The building is somewhat dated, so at times there may be some creaky noises, or odours in some areas, but nothing major. We had a room in the 3rd floor, spacious enough for 4 people with a small private onsen inside. We slept on tatami beds with rice pillows. Some people may need to adjust to this, but we truly enjoyed it. Location was great, walking distance from Hakone Yumoto, very convenient to get in and out of Hakone. Staff was extremely nice and accommodating.

As mentioned above, some odours were perceived at times around the property, likely stemming from the fact that it is an old historic building. None of it was of consequence, but maybe something to have in mind to try and mitigate it.

Perfectly located within walking distance of Hakone Station and close to a variety of great restaurants, this hotel was an ideal base for our trip. I stayed for two days with my family, and we truly enjoyed our relaxing mountainside escape. The hot springs were absolutely stunning, easily some of the most beautiful I’ve experienced, and having access to them every day made the stay feel extra special. What stood out most was the staff. They were incredibly caring and attentive, offering helpful support both before and throughout our stay, which made everything feel seamless and welcoming.

A few aspects of the stay didn’t quite meet expectations. The private tub in our suite was quite small and not very inviting, especially compared to the beautiful public onsen. In hindsight, I wouldn’t splurge on this extra amenity again. The bathroom also had a noticeable odor, which was a bit off-putting. Additionally, sleeping on the padded floor mattresses was a unique and traditional experience, but slightly uncomfortable for us.
