Very classic old school ryokan. Sure it's a little warn out but that's part of the charm. Think Hotel Grand Budapest. in Japan. Food is very classic kaiseki coursed menu, and great. the Onsen (we spent time in all 3-4 of them) were great. The views lovely. One thing to be aware of is that they charge for any child over 4 years old for the full price of an adult person which is contrary to what most tourists in Japan might be familiar with (such as kids under 6 don't pay for trains etc). They also claim to be kids friendly which I wouldn't agree with. They didn't have a crib and were very insensitive to my 1yr old daughters sleep/nap schedule bursting into our room without notice while they were sleeping to get pillows for the other room.

The accommodations were wonderful, beautiful property and onsens. We loved being able to reserve the private tubs, found them very relaxing and beautiful. Meals were wonderful and staff very helpful. If the hill up to the property is a problem, we found taking a taxi or uber very easy and cheap. Highly recommend!
